I'm reviving the oldest rant in the book here, but I'm reading og Sherlock Holmes in order for the first time and damn, this shit's insane. Bk1 a glowing infatuation that'll basically be described as a love letter next book. Bk2 Watson says 'hey what if I was in love with you' and when he seems to be rejected rebounds so hard he gets himself engaged to the first woman he sees while Holmes goes 'shit shit I fucked it so bad hey Watson you're my favourite let's do adventures together I can appreciate a beautiful sky look what a good housewife I am' and when it's not working he is supremely agitated and depressed for SOME REASON. Next up Scandal in which Watson's marriage has created really complicated feelings between them who can say why! And between desperately trying to get Watson to stay Holmes has a pretty normal if humbling time while Watson goes OKAY BUT CAN HE FALL IN LOVE I NEED TO KNOW for reasons. Next thing Holmes is going on about flying above the city together hand in hand and ordinary facts of life that can't be spoken of in fiction because atp of course he is.
Sorry I know this is news to no one here but like I get why people have been losing their heads about this for over a century. It makes so much sense actually.
Then eventually he’s like “want to go on one last nice vacation together? I’m gonna hurl myself off a cliff”
Truly the most insane thing ever written and the craziest part is like any long running procedural unless you read (or these days watch it) it in order you miss 50% of the insanity because the random depressive episodes in response to perceived rejection…it’s only there for those with eyes to see
