got the bus back home today and it was my fav bus driver, he let me on for free. went to tap my card but he just said 'beep!' and was like on you go. lol. then he nearly ran a red light and slammed on the breaks, almost sending the gaggle of older ladies at the front careening to the ground. he had to slam on the breaks and jolt the whole bus a second time later in the route because of a rogue lollypop man who'd come out because of roadworks. one of the old ladies said 'am glad ave nae got any eggs! ha ha!' and everyone on the bus laughed jovially. kind of a sitcomesque bus journey

HeyâŚ. Hey⌠Characters covered in blood, okay? You remember characters covered in blood?? You used to love characters covered in blood
It's nuts how common it is to not allow children to be angry, even (especially) in households where adults are angry all the time. As a child I knew my own anger was unacceptable--not just expressing it outwardly but feeling it at all. So now as an adult my immediate reaction to my own anger is often to feel guilt instead of like. Noticing when someone is being rude or unfair or my boundaries are being violated or whatever. fucked up.

i have once again been thinking about the moment in wyrdwood season 2 where robin snaps at lug. because i think it is so interesting for robin as a character, but for different reasons than andy intended.
i know andy was really playing the angle of âthe lines between morven and robin are starting to blurâ and that is interesting, but itâs also just such a good illustration of how even the kindest hearts can crack under pressure. because thatâs the general consensus about robin. everybody knows happenâs âand robin is kindâ quote. but robin was able to maintain that kindness partially because he hadnât ever faced any existential threats toward himself. yes, he lost his job and his home, but from robinâs perspective those were not malicious events. you can tell from how he speaks about it in s1 that he doesnât harbor any ill will about those things nor towards the people that caused them. but now he is facing those threats. he has seen more fighting in the last couple of months than he has in his entire life. and he has to adjust quickly or the wyrdwood will swallow him whole and spit out his bones. and it just really speaks to the part of me that looks at myself pre- and post-covid and feels like i lost a part of myself that i havenât been able to get back. and the fact that robin was able to come back to camp afterwards and apologize to lug really speaks to me that despite everything, he is desperately still trying to hold onto that side of himself.
Discworld tumblr, help me. I cannot find the 2008 BBC radio play of Night Watch anywhere on the internet, and the BBC in their wisdom seem to have removed all but two of the episodes. Does anyone have access to it?

My refusal to ever use patterns probably costs me a lot of crochet time while I am reinventing wheels that have absolutely been invented before. I will not start doing it though.
Really hate that most people donât understand the difference between âself-expressionâ and âartistic-expression.â
I say this as someone who sells pottery, and many people who see my art assume I am using art as an outlet to âexpress myself.â
I am not.
I use art to challenge myself. A lot of what I do is the equivalent of doing a hard sudoko or a half marathon, answering the question of âcan I do this?â
I use art to question things and explore ideas. Finding physical synthesis between concepts and working out a design to its end state.
I use art to make money. I make some things just because I suspect theyâll sell well, and I keep making them when they do.
This idea that an artist is âputting themselves out thereâ every time they create is not only stupid, but harmful, and it kills critique and analysis.
Yes every creative work is influenced by its creator, but the most preliminary step of analysis is to define the purpose of a work of art (functional, narrative, entertainment, persuasive, decorative, ceremonial, etc.) and a vanishingly small percentage of that is self-expression. Even then, itâs generally tied to the selfâs relationship with something elseâperception, society, etc.
Itâs very tiresome to have people assume they know you because they like (or dislike) your art, to make assumptions about who you are and how you approach the world. Itâs nothing newâ people called the Impressionists insane and the Fauvists degenerate. And now people are expected to hand out their identities and traumas to prove they have the right to explore certain subjects.
But to actually understand art, you have to contextualize it beyond assuming itâs just what the artist felt like making at the moment and itâs somehow coming from their deepest soul, or youâll badly misinterpret most art you come across.

I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area theyâve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record Iâm fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
I feel like not enough people realize that people under enormous strain act really really fucking Weird
My mom likes to tell me about how when I was a little kid riding public transport with her I'd always smile and giggle and chat with weird old ladies who smelled like cat pee and homeless folks and strangers dressed in bizarre outfits but any time a tidy and respectable businessman in a suit and tie waved at me I'd immediately clam up, and she takes a great deal of pride in my supposed inherentability to clock personalities but the truth is I do vaguely remember those bus rides, and it was never about the clothes or the hair or the smell, but more because everyone "strange" asked interesting questions and listened to what I had to say and seemed to think about what I said while the neat and tidy and rigid folks only ever acted like they were going through the motions, which was boring as hell and also pretty annoying
Well-to-do finance manager with tidy shoes: "Why hello, sweetheart. Can you say 'hi'? Aren't you cute. Are you on a trip with your mom?"
4 year old me: why must we do this
Fantastic old woman in the leopard print coat: "Why yes, my tooth IS real silver! Nobody ever asks me that. Do you like cats?"
4 year old me, suddenly paying attention: Finally, A Person Of Intellect
Suddenly got hit with the concept plus a very detailed visual of Moist von Lipwig donning his famous Postmaster General suit via magical girl transformation. And now I am supposed to go about my day? As if I hadn't just experienced what I can only describe as a divine vision??
