The "there's so many other levels! On the Wiki!" form of the Backrooms is bad bc they make everything too defined. "This one's an infinite creepy hotel! It's an infinite creepy church! Aren't you scared?" In isolation, maybe, but in comparison to a labyrinth filled with amorphous non-spaces that are almost but not entirely recognizable as something familiar to you? No?
A bunch of levels and a set bestiary, that just registers as a video game world. It reminds me of when I last kept up with the SCP Wiki, many years ago, and it felt like every third article was someone gunning for their own game adaptation - "here's a weird underground space, here's the gallery of monsters who live in it, here's a log of some guys fighting them". A Spooky Infinite Grocery Store can only ever be a Spooky Grocery Store and that's before you drag the notion that there's a known quantity of monster that will appear (if you grab a conspicuous health pack or whatever. Bc it's a video game)
