the problem with taz balance is you first listen to it as a naive high schooler like "oh, funny dnd podcast made by those mcelroy guys i see in tumblr memes all the time! and they apparently have gay characters too! let me check this out! haha his name is taco that's so random XD" and nobody could have warned you that a decade later you'll still periodically think about lucretia and her martyr complex and be stricken with the urge to start gnawing your own limbs off

actually can we discuss ekko and jinx narrative foils. can we discuss this

like the way it is so clear in their character arcs how ekko and jinx both represent loss of childhood and having to rebuild yourself in and out of your own grief, just in wildly different directions…..ekko who lost his big sister n father and grew up to become them vs jinx who lost hers and became everything in spite of them. ekko taking the worst the world could throw at him and carving out a space of joy and healing and community vs jinx saying you can’t hurt me more than i already have been, but i can hurt you back. the way ekko was confronted with the undeath of his ghosts and said i have honored you all this time, but i have grown too, vs jinx being unable to reconcile it with her present at all with how deep she’s buried her past…….how their trajectories intersect once more in the fight between the two of them and how ekko beats jinx first because beneath it all they’re still just two kids who know each other, but he’s the only one who’s looking. how that ends up being his downfall, too. like it makes me insane to think about ekko naming his skateboarding vigilante group the firelights while jinx engineers the same bugs to massacre a bridge of policemen….this symbol of light and hope used for such different purposes….theyre just KIDS theyre JUST KIDS

and you know what i don’t think it gets much more textual than their respective reunions with vi. ekko taking his trust in vi and extending it to caitlyn vs jinx taking her distrust in caitlyn and extending it to vi. these are not exactly congruent situations because obviously vi did not abandon ekko in the same way but god. they both just wanted a hug from their big sister again where did it all go wrong
