You can't control when they see your message, you can't control if they have notifications on, you can't control if and how they respond, you can't control their reaction. That's pretty scary

But! None of that is proof they will find you annoying. 'Feeling annoying' and 'being annoying' are very different. If you constantly feel like a bother, you're going to spend all your time looking for signals that confirm it. And more importantly, you won't be looking for signs of engagement and interest. Are you even being fair in your assessment of the risk of annoying them, or are you projecting your own self perception onto them?
