the last book I read: It was actually Susan Sontag's "The Volcano Lover: A Romance"! Great minds? 😉
a book I'd recommend: Oooh agreed, it depends on the person, but my generic go-tos are "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston and "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. Two very different books, but both classics with that status for a reason. "The Hours" by Michael Cunningham for those I'm closer with and trust or feel would like it.
a book I couldn't put down:"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. I read it during an extremely stressful time in my life and it was much needed. I'm not generally a re-reader, but this one might be exception soon.
a book I've read twice or more: See above, lol.
a book on my tbr: "The Visit of the Royal Physician" by Per Olov Enquist
a book I've put down: "McTeague" by Frank Norris and "Madame Bovary" by Gustave Flaubert. Note: both were readings for the same college course that I absolutely was not feeling (and still managed to ace due to "The Awakening" being on the same syllabus, lol). For whatever reason, I just couldn't get into them (burnout, class attitudes, whatever). I could be swayed to try again, maybe, but I just could not get through these two.
a book on my wishlist: "Sister, Sinner: The Miraculous Life and Mysterious Disappearance of Aimee Semple McPherson" by Claire Hoffman
a favorite book from childhood: I loved the "Nancy Drew" and "Magic Tree House" books
a book I'd give to a friend: It really depends on the friend and their tastes, so I don't have a catch-all answer for this one.
a book of poetry or lyrics that I own: "Trilogy" by HD
a non-fiction book that I own: "The Cancer Journals" by Audre Lorde
what I'm currently reading: "Lady Chatterley's Lover" by DH Lawrence (see the theme I'm building-- first Sontag's "Volcano Lover," then this, then Enquist's "Royal Physician"? Half intentional, but I'm enjoying the common spaces these are all in.)
what I'm planning on reading next: After the Enquist, "The Getty Fiend" by Ken White
