Summary:

Will sucked in a breath - the rider was young, couldn’t possibly be any older than himself. But what made time stand still was the look in his eyes - hard, focused and the most beautiful green that he’d ever seen; sharp as glass in the light. There was a confidence in them that Will recognized - the same fire he’d carried himself and was desperately trying to keep from sputtering out.

Will’s chest went tight, and he reached for his crucifix instinctively. He should’ve looked away - but he felt it, something had passed through them before the rider tore his gaze away and spurred his horse harder, snapping the reins, breaking the spell that they were both under.

The air in the carriage shifted, turning thick with panic as shouts rose up from other passengers noticing the commotion. Will realized with a jolt of dread - that these men, bandits, weren’t just passing by. They were coming for the train.
