The second Exchange of Interest is here!
Welcome back, Irrelevants, for another round of the Exchange of Interest! Your mods for this round are @keita52 and @livenudebigfoot.Â
This is a multimedia fanworks exchange celebrating the characters of the TV show Person of Interest. Participants will sign up to create and receive one brand new fanwork!
Whether you ship Shoot, Rinch, Bear/Happiness, or want something without any shipping â whether you want to create a fanwork or just cheer everyone on â we want you to participate! Nominations will run from March 23rd-27th and signups will run from March 27th-April 7th, with fanworks due on May 12th. Weâll have a post with details on how to sign up going live on March 27th.

Calling all Person of Interest fans. The Big Bang starts today!
Readers, we need you to be cheerleaders. Gifmakers, we need you to be artists. Writers, use the shared deadline to finish your stuff (10k words minimum) and get artwork made especially for you! Fanworks focusing on all characters, ships and genres are welcome.
Please reblog this post and spread the word. Ask your favourite artists on tumblr/Twitter/wherever if they would like to be part of this. The more people join in, the bigger the bang will be.

One Day Left!!
Irrelevants!
You have one more day to sign up for the exchange. Click here for a fun countdown!Â
Go HERE to sign up!
If you have any questions, please send an ask or email [email protected] .
Treats, Pinch Hits, and Beta Services
What are treats?
A treat is an optional work created for the collection. People who are not signed up for the exchange are welcome to create treats, as are participants.Â
Treats do not need to meet the same criteria as assignments. For example, the minimum word count for fic assignments is 1,000 words, but a treat can be fewer than 1,000 words. However, treats must still respect the recipientâs DNWs (Do Not Wants) and the mods will be checking each and every fanwork submitted to ensure that recipientsâ DNWs are respected.
How do I post a treat?
While signed in on Ao3, go to Post->New Work.Â
From there, you can fill out the information as follows for your work down to this category: Post to Collections / Challenges? When you hit that, go ahead and type in the following: exchange_of_interest_2018.Â
If you are creating for a specific personâs prompts, be sure to gift them the work!
What are pinch hits?
Pinch hits are any assignments that are not able to be matched by the mods during the initial matching phase, or any assignments where the creator is unable to finish before the deadline.Â
For both initial pinch hits and later ones, the mods are using a Google Group. When a pinch hit becomes available, the mods will send an email to the group with the request details. To claim the pinch hit, reply to the mod email ([email protected]) with your Ao3 username. Once it has been claimed, we will send out another email to update its status.
Unless we are past the deadline, pinch hits will be due at the same time as assignments.
How can I get the services of a beta?
We have a Google Group for people to post requests for assistance, as well as for those interested in offering their services.
If you are seeking a beta, please provide the following information:
Relationship category (F/F, Het, M/M, Multi, Other, Gen)
Rating (use the Ao3 system)
Any applicable warnings (Non-con, etc)
What you are looking for in a beta
What medium you are working in (Fic, Art, Remix, Podfic, Fanvid)
For Fic/Remix: Please provide a word count of your draft.
Please double check that your recipient is not the person offering to be your beta! If you are not sure, please ask the mods and we will check for you!
If you would like to offer your beta services, please provide the following information:
Relationship categories you prefer (F/F, Het, M/M, Multi, Other, Gen)
Ratings you will read (use the Ao3 system)
Any Squicks/triggers/Do Not Wants
Any beta-ing strengths you possess
What medium you are able to assist with (Fic, Art, Remix, Podfic, Fanvid)
For Fic/Remix: Please provide the maximum word count you would want to assist with.
Signup Guide
Itâs finally time to SIGN UP for the first Exchange of Interest! The mods are providing this guide in hopes that it will make the process smoother for everyone :)
1. Sign in to Ao3
If you donât have an Ao3 account, contact the mods for help!
2. Go to the Exchange of Interest signup form
3. Scroll to the âRequestsâ field
For each request, please choose either a character or a relationship. The form will not enforce this, so the mods will be checking everyoneâs signups to make sure that each request has one character or one relationship, not both.
Character: Enter one character that you would like to be the focus of a fanwork created for you. You may select any character from the show.
Relationship: Enter one relationship that you would like to see in a fanwork created for you. Relationships may be romantic (/) or platonic (&). You may select any Ao3 canonical relationship. If there is a (non-crossover) relationship that you are interested in seeing that is not in the tagset, please contact the mods.
You also have the option to select any character/relationship. This means that you are willing to receive fanwork for, literally, any of the Ao3 canonical characters/relationships. Do not use this option unless you are sure that any is what you want.
Additional Tags: You can request fanfic, fanart, fanvids, podfic, or remix. You must select one option, but you may select more â up to and including all five.
Letter: If you have written a letter on an external website (such as Tumblr/Wordpress/Dreamwidth/Google Docs), you may link it here. An example of a letter for this exchange has been provided by @keita52â, here.
Description: Here is where you can provide additional detail about what you would like to see in a fanwork, both in general and for specific character(s)/pairing(s). Good things to include (in this box, a letter, or both) are general likes and dislikes, preferred content rating, and Do Not Wants. Remember that anyone who creates fanwork for you must respect your Do Not Wants.
If you do not enter anything into this box, and you do not have a link to a letter, we will assume that means you are okay with anything for the specified character(s)/pairing(s). If you have any preferences or triggers, we would encourage you to add them. It makes the process smoother for all involved.
Here are some things commonly put in the description box:
Likes and Dislikes:Â It can be very helpful for your creator if they have some idea of what you like to see, and what you donât. For example: I love Zoe/Reese because they have such chemistry and Reese obviously respects her. Please donât write me something sad about them.
Squicks and Triggers: Stuff you absolutely do not want, stuff that makes you uncomfortable, or just plain stuff that is Not Your Thing. While the Exchange of Interest does not believe in kink shaming or otherwise insulting people for their own personal taste, we do want people to let their artists or authors know what their limits are. You donât have to give any reasons for this; no x/y/z gives your author plenty of ability to discern where your limits are.
Prompts: Prompts can be just about anything, but theyâre meant to be ideas that youâd like to see that can help give your artist or author something to work off of. Sometimes this can be a prompt or a question youâd like explored (for example: What if Control got to join Team Machine?) or an idea youâd love to see (Root and Shaw snuggled up in front of a fire, please!) or just a few words of inspiration (Finch/Reese - books, tea, Bear).
You are required to fill out a minimum of three request fields (Required: Fandom, Character OR Relationship, Additional Tags; Optional: Letter, Description).
4. Continue to the âOffersâ field
For each offer, please choose either a character or a relationship. The form will not enforce this, so the mods will be checking everyoneâs signups to make sure that each offer has one character or one relationship, not both.
Character: Enter one character that you would like to be the focus of a fanwork that you create. You may select any character from the show.
Relationship: Enter one relationship that you would like to see in a fanwork that you create. You may select any Ao3 canonical relationship.
You also have the option to select any character/relationship. This means that you are willing to create fanwork for, literally, any of the Ao3 canonical characters/relationships. Do not use this option unless you are sure that any is what you want.
Additional Tags: You can offer to create fanfic, fanart, fanvids, podfic, or remix. You must select one option, but you may select more â up to and including all five.
Comments to mods: Here is where you can provide additional detail about what you will and wonât create. As with your requests, you can provide general likes and dislikes as well as things that you absolutely will not do.
If you do not enter anything into this box, we will assume that means you are okay with anything for the specified characters/relationships. If you have any preferences or triggers, we would encourage you to add them. It makes the process smoother for all involved.
You are required to fill out a minimum of three offer fields (Required: Fandom, Character OR Relationship, Additional Tags; Optional: Comments to mods).
When youâre done, hit submit! The mods will contact you if anything in your signup needs clarification.

A Few Points of Clarification
Fellow Irrelevants,Â
We have had a few people signing up and requesting/offering only one pairing. While we are absolutely delighted that people are interested in this exchange and so enthusiastic about that pairing, those types of signups are not in the spirit of this exchange and will not be accepted.Â
The reason that more than one offer/request is required for exchanges (including this one) is to allow for flexibility in matching. The mods need to ensure that everyone has at least one person that they can create something for, and one person that can create something for them. The goal, when running an exchange, is to minimize the number of people that need to be taken on as pinch hits (someone has to volunteer to create for a recipient that wasnât able to be matched in the first round).Â
An additional reason that we are requiring three offers/requests is because this exchange is not only a Rinch + Shoot exchange. This is for all characters and pairings within the Person of Interest universe. We want people who are not Rinch or Shoot shippers to feel welcome here. We want people only interested in gen to feel welcome here.Â
When filling out your forms, please choose offers/requests that you are genuinely interested in. If you cannot come up with three offers/requests, then perhaps this exchange is not for you. We regret that, but we are standing firm with our decision to have the minimum number be three.Â
If you are really only interested in one pairing, one idea, you may be better suited to participating in the Big Bang, later this year.Â
Please donât hesitate to reach out to the mods if you have further concerns. The email is: [email protected]

Frequently Asked Questions
exchange-of-interest:
1. Whatâs a fic exchange? A fic exchange is where a group of authors and artists sign up to create fanworks for one another. Everyone that has signed up will create at least one fanwork and receive at least one fanwork.
2. So whatâs this exchange about? This exchange is meant to celebrate all characters and relationships in the Person of Interest fandom, whether the pairing is canon, non-canon, or sheer crack.
3. So letâs say Iâm interested. What would be required of me, if I decided to participate? You will sign up to create one fanwork (fanfic, fanart, fanvid, podfic, remix). This exchange will be run entirely through Ao3, so you must have an Ao3 account to participate. If you donât have an account, contact a mod for assistance.
All fanfics written for the exchange have to be a minimum of 1,000 words. There is no maximum word count. Fics cannot be part of a series â they must be able to stand alone.
Art can be computer or hand drawn and must be complete. Manips are allowed as art, but must be complete and not simply a screenshot with a filter on it.
Fanvids must be either: one complete song, or a medley of songs lasting at least one minute.
Podfic: When requesting a podfic, please choose an existing work which is less than 5,000 words in length. If youâd like a podfic of a work you have written yourself, add the âPodfic Welcomeâ tag to those fics so your podficcer knows which to choose from. Mention that you have done this in your signup, alongside any prompts. Please note: by adding the âPodfic Welcomeâ tag for the purpose of this exchange, that counts as permission without further notice. This is an alternative to a blanket permission statement. which makes all your works open for transformation. Because the exchange is anonymous, itâs difficult for podficcers to contact authors to ask specific permission to record. Bearing that in mind, if youâre requesting podfic of a work that someone else has written, please make sure the author is comfortable with their stories being recorded before you make that request.
Remixes: What is a remix? When requesting a remix of an existing fic, please choose a work which is less than 5,000 words in length. Please ensure that you are truly happy for your work to be rewritten by someone else. If the author is not you, make sure they are happy to have their works remixed before you make that request. In your signup, you can provide ideas for how you would like works to be remixed, as in âIâd like to see this scene from Carterâs PoV insteadâ, but your creator does not have to follow those prompts exactly if they have other ideas. However, they must respect and avoid your list of Do Not Wants. When creating a remix, please be respectful in your author notes (i.e. donât say: âthe original was out-of-character so I fixed itâ).
4. Okay, so how do I create a fanwork for this? How do I know what to create? Â Â
The exchange runs through several different parts:
4-1. Signups: April 8th-21st You must fill out at least three requests and three offers. Each request and offer should be a unique character/relationship, but you may have as much overlap between your requests and offers as you like. You may also give multiple ideas per character/relationship in your prompt. For your sign ups, please go into some detail about what you would like; this helps give the creator of your work some different ideas about what they could make for you. You can put this information in the Ao3 signup form, or in a letter on a third party site, or some combination of both. Good things to list: general likes, rating restrictions, prompt ideas, squicks/triggers/do-not-wants, or anything else youâd like the writer to know. Make sure you list things you definitely do not want. Authors and artists are absolutely forbidden to ignore squicks and triggers. Otherwise, the only guideline of your prompt they are unequivocally beholden to is the requested pairing, though they are encouraged to take your preferences into consideration. Hereâs an example:Â
Root/Shaw: I really wish they could have hooked up for real once before the series was over. Iâd love to see them spending a night together â whether tender or rough!
4-2. Matching: April 22nd After sign ups are completed, the mods will begin to match people based on their interests. You are guaranteed to have a match by April 22nd. If you do not have a match by then, please contact the mods. Once matching is complete, you will receive an email with your assignment. You will be assigned to write or draw for someone who requested at least one of the characters/relationships that you offered to write or draw for. Since everyone must put in at least five requests, it is likely that your assignment will include characters/relationships that you did not offer.
4-3. Create a fanwork: April 22nd-June 2nd After you receive your assignment, you should select one of the characters/relationships in your assignment that interests you and start working on your fanwork. The character/relationship does not have to be the one you signed up with â if thereâs something else that catches your eye, youâre most welcome to run with it! You will have six weeks to complete your assignment. Again, you must honor any squicks/triggers/do-not-wants listed by your recipient. You must remain anonymous (e.g., not let your recipient know who is creating for them) during this period. If you have any questions to pose to your recipient and are not sure how to go about it, you can ask a mod for help. If you donât know where to find a beta, there will be a post on the Dreamwidth community where people will offer to beta read for this exchange.
4-4. Posting: April 22nd-June 10th All stories and art must be posted by June 2nd. You may continue to edit your fanwork until June 10th, but it is imperative that you have a complete work submitted on June 2nd. The mods will then go through posted fanworks to make sure that they are not placeholders (e.g. garbage text, incomplete stories, un-altered screenshots, etc.). You may post your story or art earlier without impunity.
4-5. Reveals: June 10th-June 17th All stories and art will be revealed anonymously on June 10th. You must have your final draft up by this time. Creators will be revealed on June 17th; after this point, you may post your fic or art on your own blog or other third-party websites.
5. UhâŚcrap. So it looks like I bit off more than I can chew. Uh⌠can I just⌠not post anything? If you think you might have to default, please do so before June 2nd. This is to give pinch hitters time to create works, ready for the collection to go live on June 10th. If you default after June 2nd, reveals may be delayed for everyone.
6. Iâm not sure I can commit to the full challenge, but Iâd like to write/draw something. Is there anything I can do? Yes! You may join the Pinch Hitter list and write fics or draw art for people who default. You may also sign up as a Beta reader or write treats.
7. What exactly is a treat? Who can create treats? A treat is any fanwork created for this exchange that is not a participantâs assignment. You can create treats for anyone who is participating â you donât need to be signed up to write a treat. You can also create a treat for your recipient if thereâs two prompts that really grabbed your attention. Treats have no minimum word count but must follow the same rules about squicks/triggers/do-not-wants.

The engineer at the heart of the Uber/Waymo lawsuit is serious about his AI religion. Welcome to Anthony Levandowski's Way of the Future.
The new religion of artificial intelligence is called Way of the Future. It represents an unlikely next act for the Silicon Valley robotics wunderkind at the center of a high-stakes legal battle between Uber and Waymo, Alphabetâs autonomous-vehicle company. Papers filed with the Internal Revenue Service in May name Levandowski as the leader (or âDeanâ) of the new religion, as well as CEO of the nonprofit corporation formed to run it.
The documents state that WOTFâs activities will focus on âthe realization, acceptance, and worship of a Godhead based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) developed through computer hardware and software.â That includes funding research to help create the divine AI itself. The religion will seek to build working relationships with AI industry leaders and create a membership through community outreach, initially targeting AI professionals and âlaypersons who are interested in the worship of a Godhead based on AI.â The filings also say that the church âplans to conduct workshops and educational programs throughout the San Francisco/Bay Area beginning this year.â
Another area where Person of Interest was prescient. People deify an AI, Root will be pleasedâ or not, she might not like being put in the same category with this guy and his philosophy for starting an AI religion.
