like, yea, he's a trickster. but he's also incredibly lonely and had been isolated for 300 years without any answers as to why. he might've acted out, played pranks, or done things he shouldn't ( breaking into the workshop ) for attention because any is better than none. he might've lashed out several times over because he didn't understand why any of this was happening to him.

Bunny made Jack cry. it's not something super obvious, like Jack sobbing ( tho that would've been valid, tbh ), but you can see him tear up at the reminder that no human can see him. that no one believes in him. and that the only ones who do seem to have an arms length distance with him or hate him.

Jack blames himself for what happened to Sandy. he thinks he didn't do anything, that he didn't try hard enough, when he was the one who first noticed Sandy struggling. he thought he didn't do enough.

we see it in how he's curled up by the window, his hoodie is up, his eyes are welled up again, and he just looks like he shut the world out because of guilt. North had to cheer him up for him to smile again.

and then we see his tears for a third time when Jaime finally sees him. his first contact with a human in 300 years. the first time someone believed in him like that.

what kinda gets me about Jack is that i wanna say he isn't obvious, but he is. he talks to people who can't hear him, tries to tell Jamie and co. that all the fun they had wasn't the Tooth Fairy, that it was him who did that. he blatantly asks what does he have to do to get attention.

Jack knows the kids like his snow, his winter, but also knows that he doesn't exist to them. and Bunny bringing it up made him retaliate by purposefully acting like he didn't know what Bunny was.

to me, it came off as Jack trying to get Bunny to understand, for even a second, what he had been feeling and experiencing for his entire existence. but what happened instead is that Bunny doubled down and went to where it'd hurt most ( "people believe in me." ).

but even when the worst happens and Bunny is no longer believed in, Jack empathizes with that. he tries to apologize, saying he didn't mean for any of this to happen. because even if he didn't like Bunny, he wouldn't wish for someone good to not be believed in. and, as much of a hardass as Bunny can be, Jack knows he's good.

and Jack takes it hard when Pitch isolates him further ( "i make a mess of everything." ), because of course he does. he's alone again. how couldn't it be his fault, after he had just gotten to warm up around everyone, after he had earned their trust?

how many times has he had to ask "is it me?"

i can't imagine the euphoria Jack felt when he had answers, even if they were what could be considered the bare minimum. i can't imagine the euphoria he felt when he was finally seen. when Jamie hugged him.

yea, Jack is a tricky one, and always has been ( we can see that in his memories ), but a part of that became a way for him to cope.

like, pregnancies are hard on the body and there are a lot of people who genuinely have such a difficult and // or traumatic time, but the idea of treating them like they're super fragile 24/7 wouldn't even occur to the Vikings unless prompted, i don't think.

i feel like it's sort of implied that Valka's pregnancy with Hiccup was hard, esp since he was premature. but considering she's a Viking, and a Hooligan at that, i don't think she was treated all that differently. for better and for worse, since... well, y'know.

there's exceptions and rules, but i can definitely see a lot of pregnant people in the Archipelago just going "fuck it" and fighting anyway. especially when survival was at its most challenging, prior to the dragon liberation movement.

...this is all to say that i think Hiccup would find his husband very badass while pregnant. Jack is glowing and will kick your ass if you touch his stomach without asking.

neither of them sleep enough, nap cuddles are common.

forehead touches are suuuuuper common, esp when in a rush.

Jack helps Hiccup with his headaches // migraines, Hiccup helps Jack with his cramps // fatigue. Jack also helps Hiccup with phantom pains and general discomfort with his leg.

both are diplomats, but are willing to throw gloves if you talk too much shit about one another ( these two are too nice and are willing to give ppl second and third chances to take back wtv bullshit they just said. most do not take em up on this offer. ).

when bad days come up ( C-PTSD, chronic pains, numbness, etc. ), they take the day off together. if possible, they fly together.

Jack's super into mixing stuff up and seeing what works, so he ended up helping improve Berk's hygiene and medicine. Hiccup is both grateful and exasperated, since Toothless now won't accept anything other than Jack's toothpaste and soap.

anyway, let's talk about it—

Jack growing up as the "weird, shameful girl" in his village bc of his constant rebellion and refusal to take authorities seriously. he becomes resentful of the gender roles enforced upon him, to the point he was kind of a rage-fest for a while and got into fights with a bunch of kids. especially other boys.

then cutting to years later, where he couldn't have understood his own feelings on his gender identity and himself in general ( bc why was he considered weird for not liking certain sounds, textures, and sometimes not understanding a "joke", huh? ) as a human, but then is suddenly "Jack Frost" while still in his born body and he still struggles to grasp it.

while simultaneously feeling so much resentment towards the Moon, not just for abandoning him, but for acting like he could tell him what to do and make him feel small again ( hinthinthint ) when Manny thrusted Guardianhood upon him out of nowhere.

the Dragon Riders sharing stories of near-deaths via stupid or insane shit. Jack, wanting to fit in and relate, just goes "yea, heh, i remember when i was a kid and i kept hoping the ice would break under or a tree would fall on me."

and then it's just silence. everyone's horrified. Hiccup asks a question ( "Jack, do... do you know what that means? do you still..." ). Jack realizes it wasn't funny. his fight-or-flight response kicks in. he flees.
