Staying positive doesn't mean you have to be happy all the time. It means that even on hard days you know that there are better ones coming.
@ everyone who went through a period of having no friends, who ate alone, who had a point in their life where they were too embarrassed to tell their parents they had no one to play with after school: I love you. I know it hurts and I know itâs hard but itâs not your fault. Things will grow and change. You will find people who you click with and they will love you too. You deserve positive friendship relationships just like anyone else. And if youâre still going through this phase, youâre strong, and things will change for you too. You are not alone, there are people experiencing the same thing you are, find them, you deserve positivity and companionship. Keep your head up.
if you see someone being interrupted in a conversation, acknowledge them, donât let them be pushed to the side. if you see someone lagging behind, walk beside them. if someone is being ignored, take the step to include them. always remind people of their worth. it hurts when it feels like youâre being forgotten. that small gesture can mean a lot.

Do you have anymore self care advice, and how to love myself? Like what are some things I can do to be happy. I just feel like Iâm a disappointment and Iâm very insecure. Iâm trying to be positive but itâs hard. I would love to wear certain clothes but I donât like my body.
Hello, cute bean!
Something we all should know is that self care is a constant repetition of habits, and it can surely be small habits, something tiny that you start doing and it grows more and more with time! Self care should become a routine in order to get results!
Giving some attention to yourself, to love yourself, is okay!
⥠compliment yourself, and actually listen when someone compliments you. no more âitâs not trueâ, and more âif they said that, they meant that, and itâs something i can acceptâ
⥠you know that thing youâve always wanted to do but you didnât because you just donât feel like you deserve it or someone like you shouldnât do it? do it. oh sweetheart, do it.
⥠follow body positive accounts, find people that have been where you are, talk to them, itâs important to talk about your struggles and being surrounded by people that will be positive in your life
⥠start to pay attention to the small things you do. when you eat, when you brush your teeth, pay attention to your already existing (morning) routine. do it, but actually be there, no more autopilot.
⥠have some time to relax, if youâre too stressed itâs okay to take a break, to do something you enjoy. itâs healthy and it usually increases how good is your performance
⥠take care of your skin, your hair, anything you feel that need some extra love. giving love to your body, giving it some attention is more than allowed, itâs good.
⥠yes, this is important; have a healthy sleep routine, sleeping healthy is more important than most people think it is!
⥠eat healthy and try to make your own food more often if you donât. know what youâre doing, what youâre eating! it can give a comforting feeling when you have this power over what youâre eating and youâre taking care of your eating habits!
⥠be around people that make you feel better about yourself, that help you grow, that care about you and you care about them. cut off that person that always drags you down, you donât deserve it.
⥠everyday, do something just because it makes you happy. itâs not selfish, itâs self care! youâre 100% allowed to do that.
⥠the clothes. wear them. practice self love, self confidence with them. it may start weird and not very nice, but youâre in a journey, and your clothes will help, you want to wear them, so you wear them!
⥠replace negative thoughts with more positivie ones, or at least neutral ones! i know itâs not always possible to be positive, so if you canât now or someday, start off by being neutral.
⥠talk more often to people you donât know, say âgood morningâ or âdo you need some help?â or anything like it! these small things can get us a very much brighter day, and it can also help someone else who needs it too!
⥠breath. deep breaths. itâs important, whenever you feel like you need it, do it. youâre stressed? do it. you are anxious? do it. you feel like you should quit all of it? do it. take a step back from things and breath.
⥠know your boundaries and limits. donât get into things you know that are going to overstress you or make you feel down. set your boundaries, this is calling taking care of your health too.
⥠exercise more often, it doesnât need to be much, but something! everyone should have the habit to exercise sometimes, our body needs it.
⥠look at you. and do not judge. youâre pretty and you have so much beauty inside and outside of you. so look at yourself, and do not judge. itâs okay to not like some parts of yourself, and itâs okay to change it if youâd like to do it for yourself, but know that youâre allowed to wear whatever you want to, no matrer your body type. this is your body, this is part of you, and youâre so, so amazing, my dear.
⥠drink water. really, drink water. and know youâre doing it. âiâm fucking drinking water right now, this water is so importantâ, yes, it is.
⥠get around 10-20 minutes of sunlight, everyday. sunscreen may be needed. just appreciate it, hear the birds, enjoy the view, and get some vitamin D.
⥠something is botherig you? write it or talk to someone else about it, do not keep it to yourself!
⥠laugh. do things you enjoy and think itâs funny. read a book, watch a show. laugh.
⥠find beauty in what you do and who you are. no matter what it is, spot it. your work, your body, how you decorate your room/house.
⥠you are your best friend. feeling down? look in the mirror and tell yoursef what youâd say to your best friend.
⥠make small connections. talk to that barista, sellers, someone in the costumer service.
⥠go out alone more often. spend this time with yourself. walk around just with you, wear something you like, have a good posture, and spend some time doing something you like. enjoy it.
⥠ask for help when needed. this is very important, do not think itâll be an annoyance. if you need help, thatâs completely fine and you should get it.
Getting connected with the world around you, the people around you and yourself is a wonderful step and Iâm sure youâll do really great. Delight in small pleasures, pay more attention to everything around you. Youâre a complete person and you have everything you need. Youâll rock it. <3
you donât have to change your life overnight, but try to add good things to it each day.
a list of simple yet beautiful things to live for:
the feeling of sunlight on your skin
the smell of pastries as you pass by a bakery
being wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate in your hands on a cold night
holding hands with the person you canât imagine living without
discovering a new favorite song and listening to it on repeat
having a relaxing bath after a long exhausting day
secretly admiring a beautiful stranger you saw on the train

No matter if youâre depressed, unemployed, or have no social plans today, get out of bed, take a shower, put on clean clothes & make-up, open the curtains, and do something with your day.
Doing all this stuff causes a shift in your perspective. Do it in spite of your situation.
Thatâs the only way to create sustainable happiness because, if your behavior is dictated by your circumstances, youâre going to get stuck in that cycle. Thereâs no point lying in bed waiting for your situation to change, you have to get out there and do it for yourself.
Remember you aren't hard to love. It may be hard to love yourself but it isn't hard for others to love you
Just a reminder in case your mind is playing tricks on you today:
You matter. Youâre important. Youâre loved. And your presence on this earth makes a difference whether you see it or not.

how to win at college
this also applies to high school in a lot of ways, esp in organization and involvement
I read this book by cal newport called âhow to win at collegeâ in prep for my freshman year & u should definitely read it yourself because there are lots of important points i donât cover in this post, but if you donât want to, this is my summary of what I think were the most important points he made.Â
STUDY HARD, BUT YOUR GRADES DONâT MEAN AS MUCH AS WHAT YOU LEARN OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM. he prioritizes getting vital experiences such as
- joining a club and eventually taking responsibility in it and becoming a leader
- apply for scholarships every year (he said 10 a year)Â
- volunteer, but not for your resume. do it to learn and become a better person.Â
- get involved in research, and get involved in your major department (like go to the events and lectures, even if they arenât mandatory)
- write outside of class regularly because writing is super important (example- submit to your school newspaper)Â
STAY ORGANIZED AND ON TOP OF YOUR SHIT
- he really really REALLY emphasizes not procrastinating and studying / starting papers well in advance of deadlines. his rules are toÂ
- - >start long term projects immediately after they are assigned and continue to work on them by following a reasonable schedule (he says to finish early, revise, then finish again),Â
- - > take 3 days to write shorter papers (aka you have abt 2 weeks to work on them and they range from 2-15ish pages) (aka make preparations pre writing, then write a rough draft on the first day, revise and focus your writing on the second day (make sure your arguments are very clear!), and polish your paper on the third day), and
- - >take 2 weeks to study for an exam. study in shorter blocks during the first week, like maybe an hour or so each day. over the weekend, add more hours. the few days before the test, study in 2-3 hour chunks to really cement the already familiar information.Â
- get a filing cabinet for your papers instead of just piling them on your desk and having to search for them later.Â
- have a HIGH QUALITY notebook and a folder for each class (or whatever stationery keeps you organized) and keep all your folders/notebooks/binders neat and organized.Â
- empty your inbox and organize your emailsÂ
- schedule your free time- aka have specific times that you choose to relax and spend with friends rather than unintentionally relaxing during work time, or worrying about work during relaxation time.Â
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
- you NEED sleep, you NEED healthy food, and you NEED exercise. you really shouldnât put anything ahead of these things.Â
- NEVER pull an all nighter. if youâre studying ahead of time, this should be easy. all nighters arenât glamorous, theyâre unproductive, really stressful, and unhealthy
- keep in touch with old friends, and remember to call your mom
- make sure to spend time with new friends and take care of them. be there for your friends.Â
- keep your room neat and make your bed!!Â
like i said, there is a lot of important stuff that I didnât cover so i recommend reading the book how to win at college by cal newport, and take what you need to from it. good luck!!!
what I wish someone told me going into my freshman year of college
You and your roommate might not get along.
Just because you woke up early every day in high school doesnât mean you will be able to in college.
Conversely, you might just realize you are a morning person in college.Â
You should learn to examine your personal biases. Ask yourself why you have a certain opinion.
There are plenty of students who have taken 17, 18, 19 hour course loads and they have been successful; however, it may not be financially feasible.Â
Searching for scholarships doesnât stop when you get to college. Keep looking for them and applying for them. Create a separate email account to receive and correspond to scholarship emails.Â
Donât put off visiting your academic advisor. Mine absolutely saved me when I was going through the lowest point in my life.
Let your mom/dad/parental guardian (if applicable) make your bed on move-in day.Â
Get involved, but only if you want to. Student organizations in college are much more time-consuming, so be certain that it is something you really want to do.Â
Have fun. You donât have to go out every single weekend. But go get coffee or study with a friend. Have some sort of interaction with others.Â
Getting a job really eased my financial burdens and I made friends, and established references. Having money just feels good.Â
Wash your face. Keep make up wipes close to your bed for nights when you are just too tired to go through an elaborate skin care routine.Â
Communal showers suck, but we all have to endure them. I promise you will get used to it. But you gotta bathe, friend.Â
Be honest with your support system. Many times, those closest to us would help us in a heartbeat, but they never knew we needed help in the first place.
Utilize services your tuition covers. These include, but are not limited to, tutoring, legal services, medical services, etc.Â
Sit in the front row. Just do it. Seriously. You will be less inclined to get on your phone/not pay attention to lecture/discussion material if the material is two feet away from you. You can also see better on those days when you forget glasses, or run out of contacts.Â
Your MWF life does not know your T/TR life. You can totally hit those clothes with some febreeze and wear them on heavy rotation.
Speaking of clothes, everyone washes clothes on Sundays. Itâs a fact.
You really donât need to bring all of your clothes, expensive jewelry, trophies from that time you did soccer in 2nd grade, etc. to your dorm. Just enough clothes to fit in your drawers/closet for all seasons, and a couple sentimental items to remind you of home.
Save the boxes you use to move into your dorm/apartment. You will need them come move out.
Live and die by the syllabi, but know that professors will change things up randomly. They will also announce things in class that are not on the syllabus at random.Â
Do invest in some good plates and Tupperware.
Drink water.Â
The freshman 15 is real and it is coming for you. But itâs okay. Youâre still awesome.Â
Parking in college is universally limited and unforgiving. Be mindful of this.Â
Many retailers will have sales on microwaves and mini fridges when fall comes around. Invest in them.Â
Storage containers are a must.Â
Respect quiet hours.Â
If you will be living on campus, and your campus is dry - RESPECT THAT. Seriously, itâs such a dumb mistake to make. I have friends who started out on probation because they decided to drink in their dorms their freshman year.Â
Get a power strip. Or three.
Thereâs no dress code in college. So you can totally wear that crop top. But be mindful that those surrounding you are potential professional connections. A lot of college is networking.Â
But, in all honesty, no one really cares what you are wearing.Â
You are an adult now, so setting boundaries is necessary.
Donât stay in that toxic relationship.
Keep in touch with your friends/family from back home.Â
Do ask your professors questions in office hours, during class (if able to), or via email.Â
Use protection.
Stand up for yourself, what you believe in, and others.
Get the number of at least one person in each class during syllabus week.
Expect to stay the entire 2-4 hours of your lab.Â
Be respectful of your roommateâs space.Â
Be respectful of otherâs differing opinions in Blackboard discussions.Â
Be a point whore. Do the extra credit. Do it.Â
Remember that college is a new beginning.Â
Realize that grades do not define your intelligence.
Realize that sometimes we fail classes, but it does not mean that we are not âsmart enough.â
Know that college is not for everyone.Â
Itâs okay to take a couple semesters off to better yourself. I did, and I am so thankful that I made that decision.
Buy your textbooks and access codes and lab manuals as early as you can.Â
Use a planner!!!!!!Â
Mental health is just as important as physical health.
Remember that college is not supposed to be the best years of your life. College is meant to set you up for the best years of your life.
