so. that my neighbour totoro stage play. this probaby warrants an in depth review, but i just need to say: WOW. completely new perspective for me, and i enjoyed it MUCH more than i thought i would -- i've always liked totoro, but it's never been my favourite of the ghibli films.
this though? it was JAW-DROPPING. they on purpose do not show any of the totoro puppets anywhere in promotional material, though there are sneaky audience photos floating around on the net that don't flatter the puppet at all and made me think it was gonna be lowkey bad. i was wrong. the puppetry is STAGGERINGLY good.
also, i never thought watching two women in their 30s play young children would move me as much as they did, but they DID. i was weeping BUCKETS.
(the cast i believe changed just a little since the trailer was filmed, it was the performers in this video above that i saw.)
