There’s magic in the little things, in creaky floorboards and blades of grass, in morning sighs and passing by a stranger on the road. That is a sentiment that newlyweds Scanlan and Pike Trickfoot, a writer and a painter respectively, have always shared. However, when they bought their first home, a fixer-upper in the middle of nowhere country, the perfect creative refugee after a tumultuous year, they were not expecting for that magic to be quite so literal. Or, quite so helpful.

“So, let me get this straight, you’re telling me that ghosts weeded our garden…?”

Scanlan pouts. “Well, when you say it like that…”

“It could have been our neighbors,” Pike suggests, and Scanlan makes a face. Not that their neighbors were not nice people, but it was hard to fathom that they were nice enough to weed their garden in the dead hours of the night. “Or,” and Scanlan doesn’t trust that drawl or the grin on Pike’s lips, “It was the forest spirits.”

“The acorn-leaving, creaky-floorboard fixing forest spirits?” When Pike shrugs elusively, her smile only widening because she knows damn well he can’t deny her this time, Scanlan hangs for a moment in thought before sighing, “I suppose weirder things have happened to us this year…”

hey, friendly reminder to everyone that all of the tlovm whitestone chronicle comics are available for free on hoopla, as are over 100 of the origin comics for critical role as a whole. hoopla has an agreement with dark horse comics (the publisher) to release their comics on the site when they come out or even early, as at least 2 of the whitestone chronicles were available well before midnight UTC-6 the day they technically released.

all you need is a library card, and even if your library doesn't have these books themself hoopla will as hoopla's database is managed at the platform level, but it still drives up your library's usage stats which shows that people are Reading Here and that they should get funding!! instead of stealing, which i am usually very thumbs-up about with media, PLEASE please please go use an official channel that actively supports some of the last surviving totally free-to-use-and-enter places and organizations left, that are dedicated to literacy and preserving written work INCLUDING historical records and other forms of physical media.
