There’s magic in the little things, in creaky floorboards and blades of grass, in morning sighs and passing by a stranger on the road. That is a sentiment that newlyweds Scanlan and Pike Trickfoot, a writer and a painter respectively, have always shared. However, when they bought their first home, a fixer-upper in the middle of nowhere country, the perfect creative refugee after a tumultuous year, they were not expecting for that magic to be quite so literal. Or, quite so helpful.

“So, let me get this straight, you’re telling me that ghosts weeded our garden…?”

Scanlan pouts. “Well, when you say it like that…”

“It could have been our neighbors,” Pike suggests, and Scanlan makes a face. Not that their neighbors were not nice people, but it was hard to fathom that they were nice enough to weed their garden in the dead hours of the night. “Or,” and Scanlan doesn’t trust that drawl or the grin on Pike’s lips, “It was the forest spirits.”
