thinking about how when you experience a lot of shame in your formative years (indirectly, directly, as abuse or just as an extant part of your environment) it becomes really difficult to be perceived by other people in general. the mere concept of someone watching me do anything, whether it's a totally normal activity or something unfamiliar of embarrassing, whether I'm working in an excel spreadsheet or being horny on main, it just makes my skin crawl and my brain turn to static because I cannot convince myself that it's okay to be seen and experienced. because to exist is to be ashamed and embarrassed of myself, whether I'm failing at something or not, because my instinctive reaction to anyone commenting on ANYTHING I'm doing is to crawl into a hole and die. it's such a bizarre and dehumanizing feeling to just not be able to exist without constantly thinking about how you are being Perceived. ceaseless watcher give me a god damn break.
sorry to put your tags on blast on this insane breach containment post I have since muted, but you're right and you should say it.
It is defeatable. Go for the throat.
The funniest part of Sinners was when the Native Americans just said “yeahhh good luck with that”

when a 1500 yr old irish vampire asks for your 20 yr old cousin’s hand in marriage so he can make more vampires using your cousin’s music
It's just not a vampire story until someone's REALLY homoerotic.
"Why, I just heard his beautiful voice from out this here window and I need to speak to him. I will be an upmost gentleman, sir, if you would kindly let me speak to your beautiful, young cousin. Sir, I hope you aren't denying me entry on account of mine being a white man. Sir, I believe in equality. I will help you kill every member of that so-called "Klan," a stolen Irish word, I might add. I will give you gold, sir. I have authentic Spanish doubloons. All I ask is that you let me make sweet music with your supple young cousin. Please don't mind the drool; I have a condition."
Women of Sinners - Sinners (2025) dir. Ryan Coogler
I love how "Sinners" didn't villify the sinners in the movie. Sammie's father told him that playing music for "drunkards and philanderers who abandon their family responbilities to sweat all over each other" was a sin. And he was right about the kind of people going to the juke joint: Delta Slim is an alcoholic, and Pearline a cheater. It would have been easy to villify them, but the movie tells us that despite their flaws, they are humans worthy of love, respect and freedom.
Delta Slim drinks because he's traumatized by the horrors Black people of his time face. And he's kind and compassionate, encouraging and reassuring Sammie, and sacrificing himself to save everyone else.
Pearline literally saved Sammie's life and sacrificed herself to protect him, a boy she had only known for a day. It shows her kindness because she could have easily stayed back when Remmick tried to bite Sammy and not endangered her life more than necessary.
The movie shows us that preachers blindly condemning those sinners are wrong: Sammie is only alive because drunkards, philanderers and gangsters (Smoke) gave their lives to protect him. They are people, with flaws and qualities.
I love how nuanced the movie is: Sammie's father is not wrong about the kind of people Sammie wants to associate with and their potential bad influence, but he's wrong about them being evil and not deserving of respect.
I can't get over how Sinners is such a rich text on assimilation and whiteness and the dangers of "civility" and music as a way to look both forward and back
And it's also a phenomenal vampire movie where a lot of hot people get covered in blood and there's a B plot about eating out girls
my only shame regarding sammick is that I’m shipping a young, innocent, beautiful, black man with an old white LOSER 😫 1000 years and you really don’t got no fucking bread???

That was the last sunrise I ever saw. Perhaps the kindest thing the dark gift has given me. // It was the last time I saw my brother. It was the last time I saw the sun. It was the only time I ever felt free.

does anyone else want to talk about the dynamic between armand and madeleine or is it just me and assad zaman
I love the dynamic between Madeleine and Armand.
As Assad said, he goes in expecting just a base creature; nothing more than a woman to watch dance as she tries to convince him she's worth something. But Madeleine doesn't bend and doesn't beg. She immediately is like "fuck you, actually" which Armand responds to with curiosity.
So he challenges her. Will she be able to eat women, children? These are often the ones vampires struggle morally with. All the vampires enjoy watching people be pushed to their limits, and Armand is no different in this regard. And Madeleine's response is strong and realistic. She needs to eat, and so she will. She's done horrendous things already to eat, to her this would be no different.
Through Madeleine, you also he see likes brash personalities; one's different than his own. Ones willing to challenge tradition and authority. Through his yearning to others, we can see his desire for change that he can't create himself. We see these traits that draw him to Madeleine in his interest in Lestat, Louis, (and later Daniel).
Someone said that Armand only seems boring to Louis because he keeps erasing the memories of any toxicity and i have not stopped thinking about that
The consequences of his actions bit him in the ass and he probably doesn't even know why
This kinda reminds me of how armand drills into louis head that "he will allways preserve louis happiness" so anything that dosnt fit the criteria of preserving that happiness is simply araised. Adding to this in ep5 armand acknowledges that louis misses lestat and all his chaos (even if it was still obvious before) it all kinda fucked over because at that point he knew that louis was being reckless enough that he wanted lestats chaos back even the bad things ("prison of empathy") if armand had accsgly been concerned about making louis love him woudnt he had spiced things up? Not arasied bad memories of things he did? Try to be lestat? But he dosnt he stays the same puts louis on suicide watch as he says and stays as "good nurse" as he could.
If armand truly wanted to keep louis with him, fascinated by him then shouldn't he had become more chaotic?
Just some thoughts of course he had allresdy met Daniel by that point so did he really still want louis as much more than a fall back or just someone to live with i spite of lestat 77 years ago?

the learned helplessness in armand is INSANE, i need to crack open his skull and dissect his brain. he is stuck in a god damn 500 year long fawn response. this character is going to drive me into an early grave, holy fuck. the way he lets bad things happen because he can't take action himself?! the submission as a weapon? like a predator showing you it's belly to lure you into a false sense of security.
i NEED to read the books.
