Get Yer Shine on: Vonnie the Entomologist
I haven’t had a fair share in exploring and seeking different bugs for that I’m pretty shallow when it comes to their outside appearance. If it didn’t whimsically fly across my screen in my fave animations I can guarantee that I wouldn’t care for it. Too many legs, furry, crazy amount of eyes…like, Nah, I’m good.
As of late, I’m not as much of an air head. I DO like bugs and I try to recognize them for their purpose opposed to their looks. However, it’s still difficult to look at some insects without cringing or imagining the worse. Recently I came across a young woman’s Instagram where she captures the beauty in some of the most repelling critters.
Vonnie the Entomologist ( @vonroach, on Instagram ) is an inspiration. After my first time merely touching a tarantula I came across her page and found a new love for bugs. To run into someone who’s passionate about insects and willing to educate is a cure in itself when it comes to entomophobia.
Vonnie makes it’s easy to understand bugs and she’s a kickass photographer as well (all of the photos are from her insta). Currently, she’s building a buzz with her informative videos. She also gives her audience pointers for how to prepare and eat bugs (for they are a protein), giving us a different perspective and respect for them. You may not agree now but check her out and ask questions!!
