I find it incredibly hilarious that there's so much ship discourse in the gravity falls fandom regarding more controversial ships with people arguing shit like "alex hirsch would hate you" meanwhile-
He does not give 2 shits about any shipping discourse, like these are literally his responses to getting asked questions like this, please stop dragging him into this
āBe gay, do crimeā but the second yāall see an adult/minor ship you cry and report. āBe gay, do crimeā but the second you come across a noncon fanfic you make a callout post about the author. āBe gay, do crimeā but when you encounter a 17 year old dating a 19 year old who has been together since the 19 year old was 17 and the 17 year old was 15 you scream grooming. Iām starting to think you guys donāt actually understand what ābe gay, do crimeā actually means.
I think you guys just want to seem counterculture and cool without actually deconstructing what the phrases you actually sling about mean. Iām starting to think you actually love the surveillance state and would sell out a fellow queer person to Big Brother if it meant your wholesome chungus ship was canon. Iām starting to think you donāt actually care about queer liberation and only want fun points online for your silly catchphrases. āBe gay, do crimeā try living being the crime.
white ppl will steal every aesthetic from black culture and then call it something so stupid like bo derek braids instead of box braids or hasbin hotel core instead of black southern dandism. yall will bend over backwards to call my culture barbaric/scary just to drool over the aesthetic the moment no actual black people are involved (21 pilots vs actual reggae). And if ur white/nonblack reading this just reblog. I dont need any comments talking about how not racist you are + speaking up over actual black people.

i'm so tiredddd of this idea that romanticization of dark topics is inherently bad, that you can write abt dark topics as long as you don't fall into the terrible horrible no good evil wrong bad disgusting pitfall of the dreaded romanticization... fiction has always allowed space for fantasy... what happened to fantasy... of course there are things that happen in fiction that i love and clap and cheer for that i would never want to happen in real life, like of course, it's fucking fiction, fiction can provide a space for fantasy, fantasy is not always 1 to 1 with things i want to happen in reality, this is so so simple
ābe gay do crime! but sex is yucky and crime is wrong!ā ass website

okay just so start this offā¦iām a (respectful) anti so itās totally fine if you donāt answer this but i just feel like i need to talk to someone about what i think about darkshipping before i explode or something.
now, i get that people can do whatever they want and i canāt change that, but iām just going to say it anyways because i get flamed in anti spaces for saying this. i DO think darkshippers have good ideals, i just think theyāre being carried out wrong, and thatās why iām an anti. see, i totally agree that it is beneficial to write or draw things in order to process trauma. itās true that therapists do recommend doing so. however, every single darkshipper i have seen romanticizes the trope they are shipping.
especially if itās related to oneās trauma, this can cause the brain to see those relationships as better and more romantic than they actually are. this is, obviously, extremely unhealthy, because incest and child-adult relationships are NOT NORMAL and need to be portrayed as they actually are and how they can actually happen. predators preying on children is not some cutesy little romantic thing, and iām sorry, but Iām tired of people acting like it is, especially as someone who has been in one of these relationships and was sexually assaulted. (i know iām kind of making a big deal out of this topic but i get really passionate about these kinds of things so forgive meā¦ā¦ā¦)
my other gripe with darkshipping is how and where itās posted online. i get that people online are not responsible for what other peopleās children see, but itās still good to take care, because children are curious and a five second trigger warning is not going to stop them from seeing these things and getting themselves into it, which is something that happened to me. i personally donāt think these works should be posted online at all, but if you absolutely HAVE to, i believe that darkshippers should make their own online spaces to share their works. and before you mention that ao3 was originally a darkship space that was eventually overrun with antis, no, i do not think that antis should be allowed in these spaces, and nor do i think that darkshippers should be allowed in anti spaces. to each their own.
anyways thatās all i can really think of⦠i know it was kind of corny but iād love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this if you do answer this ask anyways :)
I have thoughts that nobody asked for but itās 3am and Iām going to talk anyway.
First off I want to understand where youāre coming from when you say specifically adult/minor relationships āshouldā be portrayed as unhealthy. Why? Because itās wrong in real life? So is murder and so is cannibalism, two dark tropes I see āantisā fling around and romanticizing like candy (really hate the word romanticizing in regard to fictional shit but thatās neither here nor there). So why is it that those two dark things are allowed to be āromanticizedā but things such as grooming and incest arenāt? If your knee-jerk reaction is based on personal feelings of disgust because you were victimized in real life by those things, I feel for you, I do, but it isnāt your place to dictate what kinds of things can and canāt be explored through fiction and the way the author/artist chooses to portray those relationships. Also, obligatory: nobody is romanticizing your trauma because frankly nobody cares enough about you to do that. And I mean that in the kindest way! You are your own first priority so of course youāre going to relate things you see online that may remind you of what you went through back to your own experiences. But nobody is out to get you personally, and *you are allowed* to despise that content. youāre allowed to block every single person on the internet who posts shit you donāt like. But you canāt control it. Itās fiction. Itās not real. I also want to know where you got the idea that someone unpacking their own trauma in a fictional setting, where they have control, and shining a different light on it where it makes them happy to portray such things is unhealthy. I see this spouted off often nowadays and I just want to know where it came from because I got the exact opposite advice when discussing this topic with my therapist. Itās different for each individual person. What may be unhealthy for one individual could be the thing that finally frees another from constant panic attacks over their past abuse.
I do agree with you about keeping minors and people who donāt want to see that kind of stuff out of the way, but responsible people who post this kind of content do tag their works and make sure itās as unfindable as possible for anyone who doesnāt wish to find it. People who intentionally flashbang nonconsenting parties with intense, triggering topics are assholes. However I do think part of this falls on the person who doesnāt want to see that stuff. Curate your space. Use your block button. Block tags. The world will never cater to you and you have to take responsibility for your own mental health. And if you see something you donāt like it literally is not the end of the world Iām sorry. But it isnāt. Being triggered sucks so badly but there are times in life it will happen and itās not anybodyās fault unless something was sent to you to intentionally trigger you. If thereās a trigger warning in place, the poster already did their due diligence
This was all written from the perspective of people creating dark content who have trauma but many people who donāt have trauma enjoy creating and consuming darkshit too and thatās also completely morally neutral because it is fiction and not real and stories do not dictate morality. But thatās an entirely different discussion.
