D20 Fantasy High - My Aguefort
The Aguefort Adventuring Academy (A.A.A) is the nations only public high school training ground for would-be adventurers. The Academy is an academic institution that nurtures teens from chosen ones to curse child & everything in between.
Fantasy High is a 3 way story about 3 groups of teenagers that have to navigate through the hormones & uncertainty of being a teenager while having to fight monsters as a team for a grade.
“Our mission here is to help each student become journeyman in their chosen field through world-class academics and unique extracurriculars.” – Mr. Aguefort spoken at a Education Board Meeting
Arthur Aguefort is best known as "Eternal Principal" and founder of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy. Arthur was a human adventurer before the nation of Solace was a nation; he was well known because he mastered chronomancy; a difficult type of magic involving time, he managed to extend his life beyond human years but by doing so he is no longer aware of time itself – regularly forgetting the what present day, so it founded the Aguefort Adventuring Academy to be the ‘anchor’ for the rest of his life to have a place to reference to. Despite being the founder and naming himself principal, Mr. Aguefort isn’t the principal or an administrator in any capacity; he built the school in his image but couldn’t fund the school as whole continuous, he turned the school over to the Solace Educational Department Board and is more a spokesperson for the school.
The purpose of the school is to impart adventure based skills to students in their early to late juvenile years (13-18), students of many classes and ethnic backgrounds are eligible for instruction and training from the school - It is a school utilizing public funding. There are at least three different buildings that make up the campus, in a rough A shape. This building contains most of the classrooms where classes take place, also houses the administrative offices, an auditorium, a library, the cafeteria, club meeting rooms, and the nurses office.
With four core block classes; 2 for your class (A) & subclass (B) and the other 2 for betterment skill (C + D) subjects. Extracurriculars are for sports or clubs that allows you to practice usually your fighting style & E Block is for extra lessons, teachers meetings or detention.
At A.A.A, it’s a requirement by the end of your first week each year to create an adventuring party which can be 5-8 people. *Solo Adventurer Students can only be Seniors*
The Bad Kids, during their first week of school, they all managed to get detention and forfeit the ability to choose their party; they were the only freshman left so they defaulted into a party for the year. Name was registered by the detention officer; Arcturus Grix, by the regulations they must have a party name.
The Nixies, are a all girl group of a mixture of Juniors & Seniors that each have been dropped by or left there previous party for personal and/or disclosed reasons & knew each other beforehand so they registered as a new party together under a reluctant Antiope Jones. *Name was a inside joke of the Seniors.
The Bonus Hunters, all of them grew up in the same general neighborhood & already worked well together but all of them have an avoidant attitude but wants better themselves individually for the group, Kipperlily Copperkettle was voted to be the leader due to her type A personality. * Childhood group name.
Note Facts about the Academy inner workings
Party Leaders are important because on Monday during Assembly is when their weekly quests are selected. Divided by Grade, the party leaders each raffle vote for 3 quest they would like to complete for the week (1 quest per week) but other party leaders will be voting for the same quest
Received your quest details by the end of D block, students have technical until Sunday Night (11:59 pm) to confirm completion but you only get credit when the proprietor communicates it to the school – the closer to the due date, the least minimum credit is given | 0-4+ ,increases in grade levels
Types of quest assignments per grade:
Sophomore = Control Combat
Senior = Assisted Dungeon Crawl
There is actually enough quests for each party (ex. 14 parties = 14 quests) most quests are ‘busy work’ given by the community itself
Since the Bad Kids refused to select a party leader among them, by default get the leftover (worst) quests that give little credit
Freshman & Sophomores do “non lethal damage” (to knock out) by default. During the summer before Junior year they are taught how to coordinate “lethal damage attacks ” + start receiving quest with combatants that fight back & Senior year they are put in situations that ends in the field hospital
Majority of teenagers don’t actually know how to follow through with there attacks, that does lasting physical damage
In the summer transition of sophomore to junior there is a mandatory course that preps them mentally for lethal situations encounters
The End of Grade Exam are an individual quest against the teacher | The weekly quest total are worth 40% of your final grade - ex. Sophomore fighter must do an amount of damage to the fighter teacher in a controlled combat environment to pass. This is has to be done this way because to move to the next grade, all of your current teacher must agree that you are ready graduate to the next level of training
Completing the Weekly Quests are a safety feature so if you fail your end of grade exam, your not expelled from the A.A.A.
Teacher: Student Ratio is 1:21-48 per grade | Every party must have a spellcaster, healer & rouge (because of the surplus & versatility)
The ratio is skewed due to the academy dropout rate plus the transfer student rate | dropouts are not uncommon especially around exam times
The school does have a budget but 80% of it goes into the upkeep & the other 20% is payment for the faculty/staff employed by the CoC
Student Supplies will only be supplied for core classes but the are generic stock/ mass produced items
Ex. The fighters all get armor but its basically ‘stormtrooper armor’ – unisex, one size fits all, its the cheapest in bulk armor the best money can buy
Ex. Spell Components are provided up to a certain level (4th) but it’s a ‘first come, first served” situation & only teachers can request the components
The academy is a public school but with the constant influx of students (it’s the only public adventuring school in the country) but it heavily relies on monetary aid whether by government funding, family donations or leasing out students under apprenticeships
Student graduates around level 13/14 | faculty & staff has to be minimum level of 15 but with experience or certification to teach
Activities & Extracurricular like sports, band, robotics etc. are available but they are bias to the class that it can benefits the most from
Ex. Barbarian, Fighters & Paladin are more likely to get on a sports (full contact) team than a Bard, Warlock & Rouge
Ex. Wizards, Clerics & Sorcerers based clubs are more likely funds for materials than a Ranger, Druid & Monk club
There is no uniform but school merchandise (jackets, bags, stickers etc) are given freely & often | Basic Dress code Unisex Rules
Elmvile school system is too small for a public bus system however Hudol has their own private bus system
The academy doesn’t have a school bus or parking for students due to the town size & school upkeep budget
The majority of faculty & staff are retired or reserved adventurers, that live in or near elmvile
