So yesterday it was Droplets’ 4th birthday and now this fic is actually old enough to start primary school in the autumn, so how about that!

To celebrate, here’s a sneak peak from the in-progress chapter 26 :D I’m about 11k in but currently on hiatus from writing it whilst Shadowhunters is airing and I’m madly writing Malec fic, but I will resume Drops after the season is over. In the meantime … here’s a little taste of what’s to come … I might post some more later :D

Extract: Chapter 26 (Be Not So Fearful/End of the Affair)

The laughter and chatter and low music playing on the old cassette-player dissolves into background noise, a low, circadian hum in the periphery, white noise with rhythm. Fingers find their way into my hand, knotting together with my own with a gentle squeeze as I’m led towards a shady corner of the garden, overlooked by the tall and messy hedgerow. My eyes drift away from watching Mina, passing over mom already ingrained in Marco’s family, and lazily refocus on Marco’s face as he steps in front of me, occupying all of my attention with a slow, serendipitous, outgoing breath.

He’s smiling all crooked and small, something infinitely tender and private. Some of his hair is flopped awkwardly across his forehead; I don’t think twice about reaching up and brushing it away. His skin is a little warm, a little exerted from before, but his smile broadens into an unapologetic grin.

He pulls our joined hands up and holds them against his heartbeat; his chest rises and falls against the backs of my knuckles. He steps closer again, until we’re toe to toe, and everyone in the world could be watching, but there’s not enough space between us to be able to turn around and see for ourselves.

—All we have to do is forget. —But I don’t want to forget you.
