That whole trope of "being gay in high school will get you an automatic A in English" is kind of past its prime because like everyone is gay now and no one cares. Your English teacher doesn't care that you're gay. Most of the class is gay. She just wants you to do your work and stop making out with your girlfriend in the back of the classroom. The English teacher is gay. The math teacher is gay. The principal is VERY gay.

More and more I'm finding it is absolutely critical not only to have many hobbies but many hobby communities, because when one of them pisses you off you can go hang out in another for a while. There is nothing that so perfectly washes Stardew fanfic drama nonsense out of your mind like sitting around making lace and gossiping with a bunch of old ladies for an afternoon, or watching a two hour deep dive into some knitting community drama. It's freeing to remember that everyone everywhere is a little petty and stupid.

Apparently my dad taught said lesson in his ward today and did a good job of talking about how the whole thing is about bucking authoritarianism. Love to see it.

I'm so grateful for my father. He's an incredible example of someone who has learned to turn the protectiveness he felt toward his in-group outward to be loving and compassionate to everyone. Dude had me listening to Rush Limbaugh as a kid and now he's out here saving DEI initiatives in his company, marching with my trans brother at rallies, and making sure ICE will never enter one of his stores. I cannot say enough good things about him.
