The way how a lot of people treat poly ships is (often) very insincere - they don't genuinely ship this poly ship, they instead only ship two members, but slap in the others as performative to "prove" they're "not one of those shippers that exclude other ships". All focus is still on only two characters however, usually a VERY popular ship, and the others are often just added in as a background "oh hey look they're there too, they're in love" but it's always all about the ONE PAIR.

In the end they don't actually ship this poly ship, they just don't want to admit outright they only like ONE ship and don't particularly care about the complex relationships they all have with other characters.

They want the points for not excluding and dismissing other characters, but can't actually put in the real effort to explore what this poly ship would look like or how it would function beyond "They have TWO hands uwu"

It's okay if poly shipping is just not your cup of tea, it really isn't for everyone.

It's also okay to just admit you don't like X character in other relationships other than Y character, you don't need to present something with insincere intentions or force yourself to try to like something because "uwu they have two hands"

Basically, a lot of approaching to poly ships just doesn't feel sincere.
