Whatβs Next For Virtual Crasis?
Hi All! Itβs been a bit since my last blog, I hope this finds you all doing well! Recently my life has been pretty crazy and has been changing alot. For a moment I was in limbo wondering where things were heading and what God had in store for me, but he has opened a new path before me and Iβm going to follow his lead. I was offered/accepted a position at Lippert Components as their Junior Web Developer / Webmaster. I begin this journey next week and I have high hopes for the future with them. I had been previously working on a freelance basis with them to help them knock out some side projects theyβve been working on. Part of the time in-house and part of the time remote from my home office. I worked mainly with their community service initiatives. The process was great and everyone there so far has been extremely kind andΒ Iβm excited to begin working as a part of the development team! That all said, what is next for Virtual Crasis, and my freelance business? Well Iβm not 100% sure, but I know with a full time position I am going to be greatly strapped for any time to work on side projects. I may take on some side projects here and there, but only ones that Iβm able to work on at my pace. I plan on working on some non-profit projects as well for my church and some of my close friends which Iβm pretty excited about. Learning to balance my job and my personal time has always been a juggling act, but with the new financial security Iβll be gaining, will take a lot of stress from my shoulders. Will I ever freelance full-time again? Maybe somewhere down the road, but not anytime in the near future. I believe this position will greatly hone my skills overall and allow me to progress more so than my freelancing experience and my education to this point, and to become an even more lethal designer and developer. What about the blog and social media? I plan on continuing the blog and sharing my knowledge of technical skills and life lessons, in fact I hope this new stability allows me to share more than I previously was able. It will be less about promoting my business and more about promoting best practices, educating and providing insights. So thatβs all for now, thanks so much for following and supporting me in my endeavors I will do my best to update everyone with future milestones as well! Godbless! Craig Cooper.
5 Free Productivity Tools
So if you're just starting out doing freelance work and don't have a system yet, or you have a system and it doesn't work very well for you, take a look at these 5 tools that will help you be more productive, save time and manage your projects more easily.
Also for the record, I'm not getting sponsored by anyone to share these tools, this is purely to help you be more productive, and also to market myself by providing helpful information to you. =) (Now thatβs what I call being transparent!)
I will be covering just the gist of what these tools are, and some of the things I really enjoyed about them, but don't just take my word for it, do some more digging for yourselves and play around with them to see if they suite you and your needs.
I've listed my favorite ones last so stick around if you want to see the best ones. Atleast in my opinion, you may find you have a better use for some, more than others.
MightyText
This first productivity tool syncs your smart phone messages and app notifications to your desktop. You can even set your device on the charger in another room and if you get a call, text message or an app notification (optional), you will see them pop up in the corner of your desktop screen. That way you're not playing with your phone, but are updated as needed and can choose to leave it for later, or respond immediately from you computer and get back to work!
Now you may have noticed, if you are a Windows 10 user, that the new OS has phone integration as well, so you can receive text messages to your computer and respond. That's all fine and well, however if you don't respond within the dialog box or the Action Center, you can't get back to your conversations except by looking at your phone. That's where MightyText continues to be helpful. I leave it run in minimized form until I need it, and it allows you to use the windows notifications box in place of their own.
There are a few pitfalls with it, but if you are so inclined, you can sign up for the premium version and that takes care of those issues. The main issue I've had is not having all of my contacts synced so I can't make quick new messages from my laptop. I have to first look up the contact on my phone or in Outlook to confirm the correct number to the corresponding contact, but as I mentioned before the premium version takes care of that problem because it allows for multiple contact platforms to be synced.
Toggl
What I will be discussing is the free version of Toggl, not the premium. The free version offers you the basics and will get the job done, but there's more for those who want to get all they can out of it, including Toggl business that I have not researched myself.
I use Toggl's desktop app on Windows 10 and the online reporting tools to keep track of my weekly and hourly work completion. I also use the Toggl Android app, to keep track of tasks that I do outside of the office, like reading emails while waiting for my wife in the car or working from somewhere that my laptop isn't handy. This helps me stay focused and know where I need to improve if I'm slacking off. I only track my working hours, but you can track whatever you choose. In the image below you can see an example of the desktop app.
As you can see you can add tags to your entries by clicking on the entry and opening the side panel. You can also edit your entries and open up the reports page on the website where you can do a lot more, like research how long you spend on a weekly basis reading your emails or doing social media marketing. You can see an example of this in the image below.
Lastly, I would like to add that it will send you a weekly report in your email showing you where and for how long you worked on certain entries throughout the week. It's a very helpful tool, especially if you're charging by the hour for work for different clients or with a team of colleagues.
The last few images I will show you are of the mobile app, it's very helpful on the go, although sometimes it has sync errors unfortunately.
Invision App
This tool is more aimed at creatives and designers. It is an online tool that one can use to create prototypes and moodboards. It also has some other features that you can play with for yourself, I'm still learning it as I'm writing about it, but the more I use it, the more helpful I find it. If you want to go even further there is a premium service you can look into as well.
One of the things I noticed very early in my exploration is the ability to make interactive prototypes. If you have a free account and are logged in open the prototypes tab and click on the pre-made prototype titled "Web App Prototype". You will notice that within each "project" there can be multiple project cards. For this project each one of the cards are a different page to the web app. Now if you click and enter the first one on the left you will see what looks like a social media site. Remember this is just a prototype of the final version of a web app, but if you hover over the profile image on the top right hand side, a drop down will appear, additionally if you click any of the menu items there, you will be redirected to the other cards that match it's description. So you will still have to design elements in Photoshop or another application, but you can see the functionality in the InVision app, before you do a lick of coding. Pretty cool right?
Basically InVision will help get your projects organized in a presentable way to showcase to your clients or your team. On that note, it's very social, and allows for live previews to those you share to. It allows the ability to collaborate with others through comments, something they call "hotspots", where specific elements of a design can basically be highlighted and commented on and the option to designate whether a board is "On Hold", "In Progress" "Needs Review" or if a board layout has been "Approved", which seems like a very useful feature. There is also the ability to view the history of a board if you so choose, and see all the different versions of a design from start to approval.
Let's talk a little bit about InVision "Boards". I use these most frequently of the boards and prototypes options, as I like to use these to get the mood and overall feel of a project together in one area. If you are working as a team this is also a great place to share and save resources for the future, like color schemes, source imagery, typeface selection, written documents and body copy written for your project. There are so many uses for these, but you will find that out as you play with it.
My biggest complaint about the InVision tool is that when you are working with lots of images, like one might when using the moodboards, the load time can be tediously slow. If you use lower res images that should help. Really it's the Internet's fault. Sorry Internet, we still love you!
The last helpful thing about InVision, is the InVision Blog. It always has great articles that are relevant to an aspiring designer that are not just helpful or insightful, but also help you to feel that you aren't alone and that other designers and creatives struggle with the same things you struggle with. Check it out if you have a chance!
Hootsuite
Hootsuite is a social media dashboard. Instead of posting the same article multiple times on different sites, you can link them all together and post from one place. The free version will work well for most users, but if you have a ton of social media accounts or clients you work for, it will be more beneficial to upgrade to the business platform as you are limited to a set amount of accounts that you can link. Here's the plans if you're interested!
You can also check all of your feeds in one place, see your stats, make reports about your posting success and even schedule when you want to make your posts go out. For instance if you want to share a holiday post, but won't be in the office on the day you want it to go out, then just make one early and send it out at the perfect time on the special day, that way you can still enjoy it without feeling guilty about not posting something on such a crucial date for people checking their feeds!
Evernote
I use Evernote everyday, I only wish I had started using it earlier that's why it's my favorite and final tool I wanted to share with you! In fact I'm using it to make this post's content!
I'm using it type out the words to this post in a note within a notebook titled "Virtual Crasis Blog" and I'm collecting images inside of this note as well, that I've screen shot from my browser! (See Below)
Talk about trippy 4th dimensional stuff right? Haha WRONG! It's real!
The best part is that it syncs across all of your devices, so your main workstation, to your phone, to your tablet and to anywhere you can access the Internet if you don't have your own device, just use the web application.
I use it for multiple things in my daily life. For instances, anytime I need to make a personal note I can tell my Android smartphone using Google Voice to "Note to Self" and it will ask me for the details and then save it to my Evernote. I can even make reminders that will be emailed to me when they are due.
I use Evernote for everything, from taking notes in my bible study, to keeping my daily goals and task list, to editing snippets of code and sharing it with my "work chat" colleagues who share notebooks with me! All that, and I can even remind myself that I need to check out a cool band later and get some more milk from the store! It is the single most valuable tool I use on a daily basis.
I currently am using the Plus package, which will run you $35 a year and it's totally worth it! You can also use the Free version which is ideal for testing out the features and learning how awesome it is, and then getting you hooked! They may even have a free trial for the other packages if you are a new user.
It works on Mac, it works on Windows, it works on Android and it works on everything, as far as I can tell or have seen.
In addition, Windows 10 store has the app which will make the program work more intuitively with your OS, however there are a few bugs yet, so I am still using the downloaded version from the Evernote site.
I'd also like to say again, I'm not being paid to say any of this, these are all tools I've found helpful on my journey of freelancing and being self employed, hope that you can get as much enjoyment out of them as I do!
As always, God bless and thanks for following the Virtual Crasis blog!
10 Examples of High Quality Art & Design
This is a continuation of my Design Inspiration posts that I have previously been doing. This is a much more simplified approach. If you like the design/art/illustration/website just follow the link and look at more details. If you donβt you can just... not do that. Keep an eye for these kind of posts once a month, probably closer to the end of the month as I like to collect things and cull out my least favorites. Maybe Iβll make some links to the honorable mentions as well.

Changing Gears - Life Update
Yet again another life update. Iβve decided to put a lot more of my focus on my content and blogging as obviously that hasnβt been as spectacular as of late. Iβm really great at sharing content of other blogs and things I find interesting on my social media pages, however itβs been difficult creating my own content like I had planned. That being said if I am posting less articles and links from this point on, the reason being is because I am going to try and use the time I would normally read up on blogs and share posts to craft my own blog. I will still be sharing on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and often times on Saturdays, but I hope to ultimately have more of my own content to share with you. I did share a link already today if you missed it:
Oh and in case you havenβt already you can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn & Google+ the links are found under the heading βFollow Us!β above or you can find them via the official website Virtual Crasis. Speaking of the site, I also plan to make changes to that this year. Adding some basic monthly packages for upkeep & maintenance which Iβve already developed and shared with a few clients and by standardizing my prices so that itβs easier to pick just an option and then customizing further per your needs. The site will also be becoming one with the blog so that there are no longer two different pages, the tumblr blog and the site. It just doesnβt make much sense to have two different pages. The only plus is that they are creating back links for each other, but that doesnβt help you the viewer/reader any. So all that being said, I am now going to get started on some things and I hope to have some new stuff for you in the next couple weeks. God Bless and have a great Friday & Weekend! -Craig Cooper
Life Update
Hello World! A little update on how things are going for me and my business right now. First of all, I want to say I will be working on a new website for myself/company that is Wordpress based in order to replace the current website and this tumblr blog as that will prove to be easier to work with. Iβve struggled with the tumblr platform as it requires a lot more time to make things look the way you want as far as the html/css side of things go, and it also struggles with my photo uploads. Having my blog on my own server will allow me to put higher quality photos up and give me a little more control over things without having to rely on the tumblr tools. That being said, I am also working on completing my business plan and getting that all ironed out. Going over some worksheets from the βLook Before You Leap.. Into Businessβ by Devin Bent & David F. Miller, to narrow down some things and really get my business focused on what I really want to do. This seems like it should have been done forever ago, however sometimes you just have to start something and then work on it as you go, and thatβs what Iβm doing and have done thus far with this business. In other news, Iβve got a couple personal design projects in the works, hoping to have some new work to show you all in the next couple months. Life has been super hectic lately and itβs been difficult to get things done or even started in some areas for that matter. One of my best friendβs and one of my favorite cousinβs just got married these past two months. One of which I was a groomsmen for and the other took place in Virginia over the Memorial Day weekend. I have a few more yet to go before the end of the year so that should prove to keep me busy with my part time job at Hallmark and with Virtual Crasis. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers, I hope to have some new material and updates for you soon! God Bless! -Craig.
How to Integrate PayPal with AWeber
Overview:
In this walk-through you will learn how to successfully integrate PayPal with your AWeber account. You will also learn how to set up an individual βProductβ for purchase, through your PayPal account and how to create a βBuy Nowβ button for your site. You will learn how to set up your AWeber to automatically add a new user to a specific mailing list when said βProductβ is purchased via Pay Pal. You will learn how to redirect someone to a specific page on your site after they make a purchase through PayPal, how to set up your confirmation email that will be sent from AWeber and how to customize it to send your user back to the final success page on your site.
Step 1: Creating the Product / Buy Now Button through PayPal
The first thing we are going to do, is create your Product and βBuy Nowβ button for purchasing said product. Open your browser and go to your PayPal account http://www.paypal.com . Once logged in, look at the links on your Menu Bar at the top of the page. Click (1) the one titled βToolsβ. Then on the new screen you will see the option titled βPayPal Buttonsβ click (2) this option.
Once youβve clicked that, you will have some more options. On the sidebar to the right, click the option titled βCreate New Buttonβ.
Now you can create your βBuy Now Buttonβ which in turn is the same as creating a new product. There are a few options here and you can set them up however youβd like such as any shipping or taxes added, how it records your inventory of products etc. But we are just going to focus on the basics, and one slightly more complicated aspect. As youβll see on the image below, there are 4 numbers in red, the 1st one being what style of button, for the purpose of this walkthrough we are going to select βBuy Nowβ by clicking the dropdown button. The 2nd, option is what you want to name or number this βProductβ. Go ahead and set that to whatever you want, and the 3rd option is how much you want people to pay for your βProductβ, set that to whatever you want. Then the 4th thing I want you to do is click on βStep 3: Customized advanced features (optional)β. (See Image Below)
Next you will see some new options, the 1st option is to allow customers to change the quantity, for the purpose of our project we are going to say βnoβ, they only want to buy one. For the 2nd option it asks if you want to allow customers to leave feedback, and it asks what you want the name of this message box to be called. Choose βyesβ and name it whatever you see fit, possibly βFeedbackβ or βCommentsβ. The 3rd option we are asked to set is if you need to know the customerβs shipping address, since we arenβt mailing them something, but providing a service, choose βnoβ. Unless youβd like to have that information. (See Image Below)
Lastly for the 4th option(s) we are going to tell PayPal where to send customers if they cancel their order or where they should be taken once they complete their purchase. For the first option, you can just paste the URL to whatever page you have your βBuy Nowβ button located on your site. Maybe they still want to purchase it, but they want more info. The next option is slightly more complicated as you are going to want to redirect your customers to a new βSuccessβ page once theyβve completed the checkout process. So in order to do this, you first have to create a βSuccess Pageβ on your site. You can go ahead and click (5) βCreate Buttonβ and come back to this later once youβve finished making your new page.
When you create this new page to be linked to, make sure you put something in there about checking their email again for a final email, youβll also want to put a disclaimer on there somewhere as well stating that it may take up to two hours to receive this email. This is because of PayPal, Iβm not sure why it takes them so long to get AWeber the info but, once that info is sent to AWeber they will send a confirmation email. The email that Iβm referring to is the βopt-inβ email that we will customize with AWeber in a few more steps. For now just make sure they know they need to check for that email. They technically will have already purchased the item but in order to have them added to your mailing list they need to opt in by clicking a confirmation link that comes in that AWeber message.
So now that youβve created your success page, copy the URL from your browser and go back to your βButtonsβ you will be able to select edit on the button you just created. And then go right back to βStep 3: Customize advanced features (optional)β and paste the URL into (4) βTake customers to this url when they finish checkoutβ. Also make sure both the options for number 4 are checked, and then go ahead and select (5) βCreate Buttonβ once again.
Now you will see the code you need in order to place the actual βBuy Nowβ button on your site. You can copy this code to whatever page you want it on your website, I recommend creating a dummy page and testing the process on your own before you publish it for the public on whatever page you plan on using it. But for now, you can just leave that code there and come back to get it once you are ready for it.
Step 2: Integrating the PayPal Product and an AWeber Mailing List
For this step log into your AWeber account. If you donβt already have a Mailing List set up that you want to use, you will need to set one up by going to the navigation option titled βManage Listsβ. From there you can βCreate a Listβ. Once youβve created a list you want to use and have saved it, then click βMy Appsβ on the navigation bar, just to the left of the βHelpβ option. If this is your first time connecting PayPal then you will have to find the βPayPalβ app under the heading βApp Showcaseβ. (See Figure Below)
Once you find the βPayPalβ app go ahead and click on it and you will open a new window. Here you will need to follow the instructions from its first step titled βConnect AWeber to PayPalβ, you can just follow their steps as they are pretty easy to understand anyway and repeating them would be redundant. I will say this however, you will know that the above step has been completed when you see a green check mark beside the first step (as seen in the image below), if you donβt see this, you might need to refresh the AWeber page before you see any changes.
Once the first step is completed, you will then scroll down the page to the second step (1) titled βChoose Your Listβ. Here you can choose to have someone added to a specific list regardless of what they purchase. Or by checking (2) the box to the left of βI want to add people to different lists when they purchase specific items from my storeβ, you can choose to add them to an individual list per product purchased. From option (3) you first select the βProductβ you want to add to a list, by selecting it from the drop down on the left, and then on the right you select what Mailing List you want them added to, and then click the button labeled βAddβ. (See Image Below)
Once thatβs finished, when a customer purchases that βProductβ through the βBuy Nowβ button, they will be added to the mailing list you choose, of course they will still have to opt in by selecting the confirmation link that is in the email they are sent after they purchase said βProductβ, and that is where the next step takes us.
Step 3: Creating a Custom Confirmation Email for your Mailing List
In this step you will be editing the mailing list settings for the mailing list you choose to use for the PayPal purchase. So make sure you are working on the appropriate list. From the navigation bar you will choose the correct mailing list by clicking (1) the dropdown button next to the text βCurrent Listβ, and then you will click on the title of the mailing list you want to use. If it already has the name of the mailing list you want, then just leave it alone. Once you have the correct mailing list set, click (2) the tab titled βList Optionsβ that is on a second navigation menu below the top one. (See image below)
Once here you will see the same information you would have seen when you set up your mailing list originally, so most everything should be set up the way you want it. But now we need to customize the email and change where the confirmation email redirects the user when they click the confirmation link. So go ahead and click (1) the third step on this page which is βConfirmed Opt-Inβ. From here you can choose (2) what the subject line of your confirmation email looks like from the first dropdown option. I chose the option β{!firstname_fix} Confirm your subscriptionβ. What this will do is take whatever the users first name is and add it to the beginning of the subject line, so if the clients name is John, it would appear as this in his email: βJohn Confirm your Subscriptionβ. You donβt have to use this, use whatever youβd like, but this way the first thing they see is their name and a call to action.
Next you want to customize what your email is going to say, or at least some of it, you canβt change the necessary requirements but you can add your own bit of text here, your own signature and closing statement. In the opening statement we put that this is the last step of the clients βpurchaseβ. You can edit your opening statement by clicking (3) edit located on the top right of the βConfirmation Message Bodyβ area. Once youβve got that done you can click (4) the second edit button, to place your own personalized signature or closing message. (See Image Below)
The next part is a more technical one. If you donβt already have βRequire Opt-In on Web Formsβ turned on, you can do so by clicking (1) the βonβ side of the on and off switch. Next you are going to want to paste a link to your final confirmation page, and we donβt have one of those yet, so we need to create one. Just like you created a βSuccessβ page earlier for you PayPal purchase, you need to create a new page stating that everything is completed and thank you for confirming their purchase and/or in other words opting in to the email list. You can word it however youβd like just make sure that throughout these steps the client isnβt left in the dark wondering why they need to do something or if they should be doing something. Make sure they know what they are signing up for, but you donβt have to say itβs so you can market yourself to them, because essentially thatβs what we are really doing here.
Now, once youβve created that new page, copy its URL from the browser window and paste it into (2) the βConfirmation Success Page URLβ. Then just click (3) βSave Settingsβ, and now this step is done, on to the final phase of this guide.
Step 4: Testing the Process
As I stated earlier you will want to create just a blank dummy page to test your βBuy Nowβ button. So once youβve got a blank page, (it doesnβt even have to be online if youβre working from a local device the button will work as long as your computer is connected to the internet) you need to go back to your PayPal account and follow the steps from βStep 1: Creating the Product / Buy Now Button through PayPalβ until you get to the βMy Saved Buttonsβ. Here you will click (1) the drop down to the right of the button you created in βStep 1β. From there you will see another drop down button titled βActionβ, click (2) this and then click the option βEdit Buttonβ. (See Image Below)
Now you have the option to change the buttonβs settings once again, go ahead and change the Price to β0.01β so that you donβt get charged a ton for your purchase, of course it all comes back to you in the end if you are doing this for yourself so whatever you want to put here is fine. Then just save your changes, and you will be redirected to a new page (as seen in the image below). Click (1) the button titled βSelect Codeβ, this will highlight the buttons code. Then you can either right click or use the keyboard shortcut Cntrl + C to copy this code snippet (2). Once you have it copied go back to your test webpage and paste this code into your html or, if you are on a WordPress site just paste into your βtextβ box on the newly created page.
Save your page and then go back to the live version of the page and click on your βBuy Nowβ button. Follow the purchase instructions from PayPal and then when you are done purchasing it will redirect you to the βFirst Successβ page you created. Make sure it takes you to the right page, if not you will need to go back and check where youβre being redirected in your βBuy Nowβ buttonβs option as outlined in βStep1β. If it worked however, you will be taken to the right page. Also check to see if the funds have been transferred to your PayPal account to be doubly sure it worked.
Now as I said before it may take up to (but not limited to) two hours before PayPal sends the user info to AWeber, so if it doesnβt go through right away check back in a few hours to see if youβve received the confirmation email. If you still havenβt received one, go into your AWeber mailing list and check out your βSubscribersβ page and see if you have been added and if you have a confirmation pending, if nothing is there yet, or if there is a confirmation pending, wait another hour or so and keep refreshing your email account to see if it shows up. Also check your junk email folder just to be sure it didnβt get put in there by mistake. If you still donβt find it after a day, there may be something else going on and you will need to contact AWeber and/or PayPal βSupportβ or do some more research on your own to resolve the issue.
When you do get your confirmation email, you can click the link provided to confirm your subscription from within the email. This link should take you to the last βSuccessβ page you created in βStep 4β. Once you know everything is working, you can change your purchase amount to the βrealβ desired amount, and copy the new βBuy Nowβ code, (make sure you copy this again as the code may have changed due to altering the price earlier) and paste it on the page you want people to purchase from. Iβm assuming you have enough experience to maneuver around on your HTML site or WordPress editor, but if you canβt position it the way youβd like or want to put it somewhere out of your WordPress text box, like in the header, then you will need to do a little research or have one of your web designer friends put it where youβd like, this should prove to be a very simple task for them although a little complicated if you donβt have a good understanding of CSS or HTML. Once itβs where you want it, you are done.

BLOG Update
Hello friends! This page has unfortunately been quiet for a bit, I apologize for that. I am working on some blog content and a VLOG for the Youtube channel as well. I have recently taken on a second job with Hall Mark cards working part time, so Iβm still adjusting to my new schedule and trying to make time for marketing, design and other business & life tasks I need to take care of. Expect a new post within another week or so, until then you can follow me and my company on my other social media pages, and you can take a look at my website if you havenβt already www.virtualcrasis.com . Thanks so much, excited to get some new stuff on here for everyone! -Craig.
Inspiration Post 6
So it has been a few weeks or a month or a couple months since Iβve posted a design inspiration post for you guys. Itβs been pretty busy here in the world of Virtual Crasis with a handful of new clients Iβve recently started working with and trying to get my personal site up, I decided had to put these posts on the back burner for a bit. That being said I made a little time to get another one pushed out to you, hopefully it was worth the wait!
Olan Rogerβs Soda Shop Short Documentary
Summary:
Olan Rogerβs a very hilarious Youtube personality, who has also become kind of a house hold name for my friends and family and a lot of other people I know, takes a break from making you cry tears of laughter and instead makes you cry from being inspired to be an entrepreneur. Itβs about 15 minutes, make some time to watch it, and get motivated to do something that makes you happy!
Veronique Lafortune Branding
http://abduzeedo.com/brand-identity-works-veronique-lafortune
Summary:
This branding work by Veronique Lafortune, is beautifully crafted, and put together as a portfolio piece on the abduzeedo site. I love everything about this work, from the font and color choices, to the photography and the way it is presented. I love how they made a gif for the βLe CafΓ© Oui-Mais-Non Villerayβ everything is super clean and super creative. Itβs a great example of how we should put our work together and it reminds me to make an effort on every part of a project and to be detailed and diligent with every part of whatever I am working on. Just a good job, well done.
Againts Typeface
http://pixelbuddha.net/freebie/free-font-againts-typeface
Summary:
So at first I thought this typeface was called βAgainstβ however as Iβve looked at it, I realized itβs called the βAgaintsβ typeface. After I googled it and had to change it so that it didnβt redirect it to βagainstβ, I didnβt really find any definition of this term. Not sure if the creator meant for it to be βagainstβ but worded it βagaintsβ to be different or what, either way itβs a really sweet looking font, thatβs worth checking out if you have the opportunity to do a project that may be a little more rebellious! You can download it at the bottom of the page in OTF, TTF formats.
Sonos Logo Design
http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/23/7876777/sonos-sound-wave-logo & http://www.brucemaudesign.com/work?project_id=108
Summary:
As the headline on βthe vergeβ website states, βlogo design pulses like a speaker when scrolledβ. Which is cool by itself, but when you realize that Sonos is a company that creates audio products, like speakers, sound bars, phone docks and what have you, then you really appreciate the effectiveness of the design. Iβm not quite sure they didnβt try to incorporate this new logo on to their actual website header ( www.sonos.com ) but you can still see it on some of their products images. This design reminds me to really think about the clientβs role to their customers while creating.
Inside Designers Bags Post from Hongkiat
http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/inside-designers-bags/
Summary:
This compilation of images of what designers carry around in their bags was very interesting and might help you remember why you liked design to start with, I know sometimes we get a little burnt out because of clients or βdesigners blockβ, but hopefully this sparks your passion again, just a little. You can be your own unique person and this article just shows that a little by comparing different designers and what they carry around within them and their bags.
βIndie Game The Movieβ Documentary
Summary:
There is so much I can say about this but I will try to keep it minimal. If you are a small business owner or entrepreneur like myself, especially one who is a creative or designer of some kind, this documentary will hit home with you. I related to the majority of the personalities in this documentary as they struggle to get their projects finished, to meet deadlines and to try and be perfectionists with a craft which they love. It really can be a love hate relationship sometimes, because we want everything to be right but we also have to deal with public demand or clients wanting things to be finished in a timely manner. If it wasnβt for trying to make an income on a regular basis I could probably spend an eternity on a single project, creating revisions and modifying my designs over and over again, never finishing, and always creating, this documentary sort of showcases that struggle, but it also inspires you to finish what youβve started, so that you can justify all the time and effort that has gone into it. Check it out on Netflix, and I believe it may be on Amazon Instant Video as well.
Zelda Re-imagined by Joshua Nisley
https://www.pinterest.com/joshuanisley9/zelda-re-imagined/?hc_location=ufi
Summary:
This Zelda artwork was created by a friend of mine Joshua Nisley, heβs a very talented individual as you can see. I think the thing that stood out the most to me on these was the amount of detail and texture that you can find in each and every one. My personal favorite is the βDarknutβ with the shield that is a face. That was just insane to me. You can follow him on Pinterest or Facebook to see more of his work and you can find some of his work being discussed on Youtube if you do a little search for him. His work here just inspires me again, to be meticulous and detailed in every piece of work I do.
CafΓ© Racer Typeface
https://www.behance.net/gallery/21434557/CafeRacer-Typeface
Summary:
This was just another sick looking font that I came across while browsing Behance. Check it out, I love the rebel feel that is has, similar to the Againts typeface I shared above. This one though is simpler, but would still be a great header font to use on a project. You can purchase it for $10 on the Creative Market here: CafΓ© Racer Typeface
Steam Punk Creatures
https://www.behance.net/gallery/269308/Creatures
Summary:
The work here really speaks for itself. I love steampunk and I love digital art, so this was awesome to me. Andrew Serkin, made these look like somehow they could exist and function and that is a seriously awesome job well done. My favorite is the spider at the top, but thatβs just me, just the way it has the air vent on the top of the back of it sold me on it, such an awesome concept and even better work.
Clean Minimalist Portfolio Site
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/506866133037982208/
Summary:
I found this on Pinterest, and all I know about the designer is his name is Xavier, however other than that I have no idea. If you see this somehow be sure to let me know! What I saw in this site design, is just how straight and to the point it is all the while still having his personal touch on it. For instance the word βskillzβ with a z on the navigation. And just the fact that everything he needed to show for his portfolio and get across is here and there is no extra junk. Itβs minimalist and itβs a great example of how to put together a simple portfolio site.
The Work of Marco Teixeira
http://www.marco-teixeira.com/
Summary:
I came across this when I was actually scrolling down my Facebook wall and saw his awesome rendition of Yoda as a young jedi. Then I dug a little deeper and found the video above. It reminded me of a darker, grittier matrix with Lord of the Rings and Starwars like beings. His art just really stood out to me so I wanted to share it with you guys. It is all really great stuff⦠minus the clown looking guy with a grenade for a nose, I hate clowns, but even that piece is very great work!
Nicholas Hiatt Digital Artwork
http://conceptartworld.com/?p=30370
Summary:
The first piece that stood out to me was his digital artwork of the looks to be a walking robot cannon that is surrounded by soldiers and a destroyed town of some kind. If you browse down through his work though he has a ton of awesome pieces, I donβt think I can discount any of the work heβs done on this page itβs just amazing. I really like his landscapes heβs created towards the bottom of the page, I love getting lost in those kind of pieces, Iβm constantly making my desktop wallpaper some cosmic looking land or cityscape and these would be great ones to use for that, and just gaze into and zone out to while you imagine the people and cultures that exist in them.
Well thatβs it for this inspiration post, keep the blog in mind though because my next post will be a tutorial on how to integrate your paypal account with your aweber account, so check back here in a couple weeks or so! Have a great week!

Update
Hey guys, sorry it's been a couple of weeks since I've added any new posts I've been pretty busy with a couple of projects including my own personal portfolio site which I hope to have finished by March 17th (St. Patty's Day and My Birthday). That's the goal anyways. But you should expect to see another inspiration post in another week or two so keep your eyes peeled.
Have a great week!

Design Inspiration Post Week 5
Iβve decided Iβd like to add more detailed information from my perspective this week on each post, for a few reasons, first and foremost being, Iβd like to get more involved with you guys and hopefully inspire more interaction or interest. Secondly, more content means better SEO so more users finding my page would be a nice bonus.
Iβm also going to do things a bit differently this week by making this an unnumbered list because everyone determines what they think is the best and all of these are great examples and so I want to let you guys decide for yourselves, because youβre going to anyways. Also, remember these are just things Iβve found inspiring or well designed and/or created over the past few weeks, I try to compile one of these every other week when able, although sometimes they go out once a month if Iβm short on time during that period. But that being said check out the Week 5 Inspiration Post and share it if you like it! Thanks! βCraig Cooper, Virtual Crasis.
Long Story Short Design
http://longstoryshortdesign.co.uk/index.php
Summary: I came across this website while I was reading an article from Web Designer Depot, about Navigation Trends for 2015. This website is really minimalist, it makes the βlong story shortβ they wanted to get straight to the point, and they do. The two things that really stood out to me was the video, I enjoyed that and it also inspired me to get to work because of how awesome their environment looked. The other thing that stood out to me, and what was talked about in the article I referenced was what they did with their navigation menu that comes up when you click the navicon in the upper right corner. It gives you the site map essentially, a form to get in touch along with contact info, their social media and it also gives you some other options that you can check out for yourselves. It just pops up over the other parts of the page and goes away if you click the favicon, really smart idea and why not do it that way?
Hello Play Promo
https://www.behance.net/gallery/22418587/Hello-Play-Promo
Summary: This is actually a video, follow the link for the main video and making of video as well as other gifs from the project. Itβs really hard to describe this one so just check it out, love the mix of sound and motion, and really gets your foot tappinβ and your eyes poppinβ as you watch these inanimate objects become animated.
McDonald's Arch Enemies Commercial
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EShRCWOtNJ4
Summary: Was just minding my own business watching some TV on a Sunday afternoon when I came across this McDonaldβs commercial, it is truly awesome and inspiring. The first thing that got me interested was the flat design of the characters, and then I started to pay attention to the subject matter. Batman and the Joker, Mario and Bowser, and also a Bears and Packers fan sharing fries among others. This made my day when I saw it, hope it does the same for you.
Movie Posters from Paul Shipper
http://abduzeedo.com/illustrated-movie-posters-paul-shipper
Summary: Hereβs an assortment of movie posters created by Paul Shipper, that abduzeedo shared. They are all pretty awesome, some of which you will recognize right away. You can find his other work and portfolio on his personal site. The one that stood out right away for me was the Batman with Michael Keaton, that and the Godzilla above are probably my two favorites, but they are all great works of art.
This Workspace
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/506866133037055884/
Summary: I found this while browsing this daily-inspiration blog post, and I canβt seem to find the original creator but abduzeedo took it from a site called designinspiration.net If you can find the creator leave me some feedback and Iβll try to add it to this post!
Vintage Logo Designs
http://www.pinterest.com/pin/506866133037009004/
Summary: Found this set of 60 Vintage Logos when I was doing a little search for this style for a personal project. Decided to go a different way, but who knows when these awesome designs could come in handy. Maybe even take multiple logos and mesh the ideas to make other unique logos. And not only that, they are just so nice to look at, great design skills!
Diker Bau Web Design
https://www.behance.net/gallery/22105949/Diker-Bau-Website
Summary: This is very good minimalist design. I think the thing that stood out to me right away, which was intended Iβm sure by the designer, was the color against the grayscale background, images and text. Not only did they use color to get the users attention, but they used lines to direct eye movement, for instance the image at the top of the page forms a point, that leads the viewer to the navigation, it also helps that the openings in the center are red making this the focal point, and leading the user from left to right with the blue colored opening to the left. Just very well put together and simplistic.
Video Games The Movie a Documentary
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3214002/
Summary: This movie was motivational to me in a few ways, one was to hear about the art form and the passion these guys have for what they do, as well as the fact that the video game industry is full of designers, developers, tech geeks and other great people that do similar things to what we do. It was also inspiring to me as a freelancer/entrepreneur because of how it all started and the risks these companies took to get it all going. You can find the film on Netflix, and maybe on other video streaming software and sites.
Best of Web Design 2014 βFromUpNorthβ
http://www.fromupnorth.com/best-web-design-of-2014/
Summary: This is just a collection of the best web design inspiration from last year, take a look there are some great examples, some of which I used in previous inspiration posts!
City of The Lost - Wild Wind Blows, Album Artwork
Album Here: https://cityofthelost.bandcamp.com/
https://www.behance.net/gallery/22416181/City-of-the-Lost-Wild-Wind-Blows
Summary: Some illustration from Ivan Belikov for another inspiration of mine, which is music and the album is linked above which was found on BandCamp. Not only is this an example of illustration and graphic design but, itβs also product design. If you scroll down through the Behance page youβll find another image created they was used in a t-shirt. Itβs seriously awesome, especially with the giant owl stooped on the mysterious womanβs arm and the vibrant red moon behind it. Just so much awesome from this one. Also, just to push you some more inspiration, if you are a comic fan, you need to read Batman The Court of Owls, you will not be disappointed. If youβre like me and my wife and YOLO (You Obviously Love Owls) then youβll love that story arc as well, does a lot of cross overs.
Well thatβs it for this week, keep your eyes open for another one in a couple weeks, Iβve already seen a few other things Iβd like to put in a post but ten is enough for this one. Leave me some feedback if you like these articles and if you have any youβd like to see on these posts as well, I canβt guarantee they will show up here if you do share, but send me links and Iβll take a look!
Merry Christmas from #VirtualCrasis and our kitty #marcelinethevampirequeen !
