Time Log - Understand how you are spending your time
If you are like me, you probably have experienced time when you just waste your valuable hours on absolutely useless activities. If so, understanding (like, really) your time and how you are spending it can be a powerful reminder. There are lots of apps out there that allow you to track your time doing a particular task like Toggl. However, as a spreadsheet lover, I have another idea, and that is to track your time through the day via what I call aย โTime Logโ
The idea behind a Time Log is still very simple. You divide your life into different categories / aspects that you spend time on. Then you track your life in these categories / aspects by logging the activities on which your 10-minute blocks of time are being spent on. A visual representation always helps. Below are the different categories in my life. They are not mutually exclusive, but I intuitively understand how to differentiate when an activity can fall into more than 1 category.
With some conditional formatting and a bit effort on setting up, you will have your weekly time tracker like what I have below. Time is divided into 10-minute blocks and recorded accordingly.ย
As you can see, my sleeping habit (number 8, light purple) is not very nice, but the original goal of the Time Log is to help me really understand how my time is being spent, thus help me make changes. The Time Log has certainly achieved that goal. That is why I am sharing it with you today. I hope it can help you, too. The template can be found in this link. Thank you and see you next time!
