The Inquisitor's Throne
Thank you for tagging me @fadetouchedlurker - I love adding (and sharing) lore for Saethre and I love someone else's enthusiasm for exploring the environment as part of the storytelling.
So I choose the Legacy Ferelden Throne because it is an owl - and the owl holds a lot of symbolism for Saethre. My blog's tag is the gaze that cuts through masks and it's a line from an owl quote I found that is kind of the guiding star for Saethre.
As Clan Lavellan's First (who would be Keeper once Deshanna was gone), Saethre learned many lessons - one important one about leadership:
âThe owl is wise because it watches and observes before it acts. A Keeper who cannot see beneath a smile or an angry word will doom their clan long before any blade reaches them. Leadership is not the right to command nor rule, Saethre. Leadership is the burden of seeing clearly when others would be fooled or comforted by masks.â ~Keeper Deshanna Lavellan
In my HC Saethre requests this throne be built for her as a reminder of this. (And it does look like something the Dalish would make so it makes her feel more connected with her Dalish roots.)
I don't know if anyone else wants to jump in with their preference and why but feel free too (but I'll also tag @kcwriter-blog @celesenova @melkeyway @kittyhittyrh98 )
Thatâs an interesting HC because Chasind owls can be found in various locations in Thedas, with seemingly different meanings attached.
One that caught my attention while playing Veilguard is the one hidden in a little cave in Rivain only accessible after solving a puzzle quest.
Itâs a Chasind tomb erected under the protection of the âOwl-motherâ.
The epitaph reads :
âCHASIND BURIAL MARKER
Translated from Old Alamarri:
Oh, Owl-mother, She of Spring and Tide,
Watch over our sons in this land far from home.
They fell valiant and remain beloved
We leave them offerings and totems from this life for the next.
Guide them onwards, and guide our steps to familiar shores.â
The last bit could easily allude to FalonâDin, whose elven altar can be found not far away in an other cave up the cliffs and was said, in elven lore, to have accepted the help from an owl to guide the dead to their final destinationâŚ
But the Chasind style owl figure can also be found in a few other locations that tend to associate it with other elven gods.
We know from DA:I that Andruil had an owl as messenger. On Tearstone Island, a massive site indicates the place was originally owned by the elves. A specific place on the island is dedicated to Andruil. A note from Ghilanânain clearly states that sheâs desperate to give her a proper tribute.
A bit later on during that main quest, Rookâs team enters the strongholdâs throne room, full of Chasind owls.
The two thrones in that room also allude to Elgarânan and Mythalâs dominion, and this gives the owl another interesting affiliation with elven highest power. âOwl-motherâ, after all, could partly refer to Mythalâs role among her people, and some owl statues can be found in the fade near what may have been on of her temples, next to the âcathedral of rootsâ.
Despite my efforts, I couldnât find any consistent pattern that would explain its role in the lore, or enlighten some part of the Elven lore in the way it inspired religious practices after their world collapsed.
Still, it was enough for me to HC a character behind that figure. :)
"can you explain this gap in your resume" i lay in dark and dreaming sleep while countless wars and ages passed; i woke still weak a year before i joined you
â⌠still doesnât explain the one-year gap before you joined us though.â
I started out @dafuckedupshipsweek with a bad ending Solavellan thing, because in my head, I was like... but just look at them. So sweet. Totally not a fucked up ship. Could only be fucked up through Contrivance.
And then I actually used my critical thinking skills and was like, well, but they aren't normal by any reasonable definition of the word, are they? Four kisses total in game, one of which results in the removal of the failing Anchor and incidentally part of the Inquisitor's arm.
And Lavellan is still down for it. She fell in love with this dude when he was just some quiet mage in love with the Fade. Sure, he's also the Dread Wolf, but that's just a minor detail, just like she's also the inquisitor. And then she spends the next almost a decade dreaming for him before stepping into the Fade about it. (I think she's tracking him down in the Fade and he's letting her, much like the first dream)
Solas, I think, is the more reasonable of the two here. He's immortal. What's practically a decade to him? Lavellan, on the other hand, has been real serious about holding that torch.
I don't think it necessarily has to be a toxic ship, but I think they do pretty much have to be real weird and intense about each other after a certain point.
Really great fucked up ship with two really fucked up people who ended up becoming their own mythology despite their best efforts to avoid it, which weren't very good because they are both really competent.
âThe elves believe their gods remain trapped in the prison to this day, as Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf, gleefully patrols the Beyond to feast upon the souls of the dead.â

King Alistair Theirin, Beautiful Cinnamon Roll
Inquisition's open world is exhausting to you. I play it like it's stardew valley gathering herbs, mining rocks, killing monsters in dungeons, fulfilling requests and frolicking in the woods then going back to Skyhold to kiss my spouse, greet the neighbors, bother my mysterious mage of unknown origin and get my gear upgraded by the blacksmith. And at the end of the day, we all gather in the saloon for drinks, music and banter.
Farming simulator but medieval.
OP, youâre talking to my heart of hearts. đââď¸
Male writers writing female characters:
âCassandra woke up to the rays of the sun streaming through the slats on her blinds, cascading over her naked chest. She stretched, her breasts lifting with her arms as she greeted the sun. She rolled out of bed and put on a shirt, her nipples prominently showing through the thin fabric. She breasted boobily to the stairs, and titted downwards.â
â She breasted boobily to the stairs, and titted downwardsâ is the greatest fucking sentence I have ever read.
THE ORIGINAL??
(smh) Never thought Iâd see it in the wild. Yet here it is. :)
always gotta reblog the âbreasted boobilyâ post
ââ She breasted boobily to the stairs, and titted downwardsâ is the greatest fucking sentence I have ever read.â
Agreed! đ
Alistair Theirin: About his ears...
Alight, I just decided to create an own post for this topic because I see it often here, in fanart where people draw Alistair with elven ears just because his mother Fiona is an elven woman while his father King Maric was a human.
Alistair is not only shown with human feautures (ears included) in the games, but in the graphic novel too. I do not understand why people assume he has elven ears (half human-half elven ears) and why some even try to sell this as "canon" (I have even seen that elven ears on him were called canon)
My question is: Are the ones who draw him with elven ears blind or just ignorant and once again enjoy to twist something canon to their liking just because they are a fan of elves in the lore? You might like elves but it does not turn our beloved bastard prince into an half elf by look, Alistair got very obviously Maric's features and look, the human genes were clearly dominant here !
Yâknow, Iâm too old now to fight this battle, but the implicit rules of fandom dictate that fandom shall fantasise its beloved character however the hell it wants, even if itâs incoherent canon wise. đ
So yeah, it tends to irritate people like you and me who stick to the canon (rigidly, for my part) because it fucks with the rules of the world we love. I do sympathise, really. At the end of the day, though, people just enjoy fiction however it works for them. Doesnât hurt. Learn to select what fits your taste and ignore the rest. đ
Now, to further your demonstration (because, yâknow, rigidity and all that), canon is in fact quite clear on that matter (although I couldnât swear it doesnât contradict itself at some point): elf-human couples will only have children with human features. It is clearly stated in The Masked Empire (about Sir Michel de Chevin). So, for the record, youâre right. đ
(Titan Books edition, p.77)
Anyway, live well and enjoy, mate. đ
Confirmed in Dragon Age - The Calling (David Gaider), presumably about Alistair himself.

Didn't have any art today for @andersweek so here's a collection of anders ive done :3
the âanders didnât have the right to make a decision like that for all the magesâ talking point always cracks me up because i just start picturing the implied alternate preferred version of events where he sneaks through the gallows taking a vote. like âwhat would even be the logistics of thatâ is probably besides the point but itâs definitely funnier to think about.
Apart from the fact that Anders acts alone and in no other name but his own, whatever he claims to be seeking for all the mages, âhe didnât have the right toâ is not a good premise to start with.
Technically, the ârightâ to decide for all the mages belongs to the Chantry and, in Kirkwallâs case, to Meredith until a new viscount is designated. Now, if weâre speaking of some sort of moral right, it is no more debatable than the PC having entire groups of people decimated because they deemed it preferable for some reason that entirely depends on the playerâs morals.
Anders makes a costly decision that he thinks will make a difference by removing any chance of compromise where everything else he tried has failed â in the same way some pacifist green activists go from non-violent to more aggressive measures to make a difference (e.g, you can read Andreas Malm on the reasoning behind that process). In DA2, heâs still one of the only mages Hawke meets who tried to play âfairâ by the Chantry rules (except for the fact that he lives outside a Circle): never attacked Templars, never used blood magic, never bargained with a demon, focused on healing those in need and helping willing mages to flee from the Circle for free, for almost ten years; not mentioning the fact that heâs willing to take full responsibility for his actions, even if it has to cost him his life. The âright toâ is on neither side here because in that case it leads to an impasse.
What then? To me, in that moment, Andersâ fate is none of my Hawkeâs concern. The necessity to help the mages and to put an end to the peaking madness in Kirkwall is what needs all my attention and all the means at my disposal, including him. The urgency of the situation makes the moral debate about him irrelevant. And after that? Itâs not up to Hawke â or shouldnât be â who is in no position of authority in Kirkwall to deliver justice.
About Anders, a while ago.
Iâd add just one thing: it is truly heartbreaking how hard Anders tries in DA2 to be a good mage, how hard he tries for 10 fckn years to prove mages can behave and thus be freed. 10 years during which he just sees the whole situation worsen, risking his life doing what he does. 10 years during which he maintains that self-discipline while increasingly fearing for his life and hosting Justice.
And here she is at the end. Sorry Fiadh Lavellan.. its good you're resilient.
Ya know.. the first time years ago, I played Inquisition blind and romanced Solas. I really expected.. something.. from this end scene. A note.. I thought there might be a note. After all.. he promised all would be made clear. And nothing was clear.
And I'm still a little peeved from when I found out that other romances have repeatable scenes and also your inquisitor isn't alone at the end đ So jealous!
Well, not everyone has a freakin entire DLC to make things clear though⌠đ
DAI is in its renaissance era, thanks to datv. Despite the drama so hilarious. It's been said hundred times but I'm going to say it once again: DAI Solas is such a gem. Born to be a comedian, forced to be the Dread Wolf.
Solas to Inquisitor: I'm not a self-taught actually.
Solas to Iron Bull: I'm a self-taught, you see.
Solas to Cassandra: Maker? Uh-huh, why not, I am always open to new ideas. What? Your religion is about 2000 years old? Pretty much new to me idk.
Solas to Varric: I am sorry to bother you questions about your people. You see, I don't know anything about dwarves because they're not dreaming.. also here's my 1000 pages essay about dwarven economy with tips on how to improve it.
Solas to elves: My people. Not my people. Your people. Our people.
Solas, in general: I am nothing but a humble apostate. Lived most of my life alone in the woods, avoiding templars, people and etc. But I miss court intrigues. And, obviously, was at war. What war? Not important, haha. Also I have at least three PhD, professional artist skillfully handled ancient painting technique and translate old tractates for fun. How? ADHD, and I'm taking adderall. I guess.
Man literally waltzes through the DAI with veil runes fake it till you make it on his face.
Kinda sad he's not having so much fun in datv though.

Soft morning with Fenris

some people really do roleplay their video game characters like they're the centre of attention at all times and everyone cares about every single thing that goes on in their heads. this is lk why so much fic where the player character is the focus suck bc the author genuinely does not seem to compute that 99% of the characters around them do not give a single fuck about the minutiae of their lives and relationships
