Immortal spiritual beings who've shared a connection mortal soul could only dream to imagine. It lasted for eons and including all that complicated stuff: trust, loyalty, jealous, betrayal, avengeance, anger, twisted addiction, ego.

But this orb of ancient drama has simple core (because it was written by humans duh but nonetheless).

No matter how pure and sincere the feelings was at the beginning, it always can be twisted and corrupted if push too hard.

It isn't a love story. It's the story about growing. About changes.

Mythal didn't love Solas. She used him to achieve her goals. She needed somebody to cover her back, somebody trusted and loyal; a right hand. Rule the people and protect them from Elgar'nan - that is what she wanted. Solas' twisted nature is a collateral damage.

Solas didn't love Mythal. He wanted to force her to be the one he can like: not a ruler, not a goddess - just a wise Mythal with appropriate morals to perfectly match his. He didn't care what she wanted, he wanted her to be as he imagine.

As spirits they could coexist in peace, that was a pure connection. Once they make bodies out of lyruim (=evolved) something has changed because it always does when people grow up. Somebody (like Solas) stacks in the past cultivating all the regrets, and somebody (like Mythal's fragment) moves forward to new life.

Mythal understood it first, because she lived among mortals while Solas was asleep. And that time created the chasm between them they could never cross. And that's why Mythal (the better version, not the mean girls one) didn't even argue in DAI - Solas wasn't ready to let go the past; mentally or spiritually or anyhow he's still living there, in Elvhenan, in a magical place of nowhere absolutely sure he still can make things right.

And Mythal is a way far ahead of that delusion, choosing the real world over the dead empire existing only in memories.

In other words:

You have a fairy godmother undead grandfather

You have true friends you gonna help to do some stuff they need because that's the magic of friendship uwu

You'll get fun playing with flesh because camp chest is designed to be a storage for dead bodies (I guess)

DAI Solas:

Evanuris killed her? Fragment went to the Crossroads, and the other one went somewhere else. Mortal body is weak? Not a problem, she'll find a way. Ungrateful daughter planning to kill her? Not a big deal: amulet + Hawke = problem solved. Ancient elven dude she friendzoned for who knows how long is going to absorb her soul to finally rest her in peace? Pfft. She'll yeet a crumb of her soul through a magic mirror and also will return anyway as the memory fragment or whatever to say the last word.

Can't believe im actually here. A grand finale of homemade elven family soap drama yay.

And it's the most fiction part (which I doesn't like much because it feels like a not quite good fic) but it is what it is I guess.

Okay. The last conversation before the end. All secrets revealed, betrayals collected, hurts increased. Now it's the time to make a significant choice: to do the right thing (as Fenlath see it) or let the anger lead him.

Father gave him nothing but the collection of traumatizing meetings. There's no family love or warmness, no easy answers, no apologies, and it hurts because he got nothing he hoped to find.

But, apart of family drama, Dreadwolf isn't a villain. Fenlath would be the first to hate to admitting it but Dreadwolf doesn't deserve an eternity of suffering.

But how to make things right? He has no clue. Luckily, his mother tired of waiting for these two starting to talk like a normal beings. Incapability to have a normal conversation.. maybe it's something about their genes, a family trait ┐⁠(⁠ ⁠˘⁠_⁠˘⁠)⁠┌

It's not ideal. It's not what Fenlath dreamed most of his life. But it's something. It's an actual recognition. And an apology.

That's the time for life to starting to get better but it can't be. Finally the truth came out, finally he can speak with his father freely, finally their family reunited, but only to say goodbye. Fenlath found his father only to lose him again, and now his mother is going to leave too. It's unfair.

But, somehow, it also isn't. For them.

And it doesn't feels like a true end. His team just saved the world, killed two elven gods and stop Blights.. how hard can it be to find a way to talk with his parents someday? He'll find a way.
