I find it really interesting how well some mechsploitation writing captures the feeling of a machine being an extension of the body.
I'm a full-time wheelchair user and can say from experience, it *is* my legs. After a while the brain just registers it as part of you.
If something is damaged or calibrated wrong, it feels like walking with a limp. Unusual noises feel like they're coming from your joints. It's deeply intimate and sometimes unsettling when someone reaches into the mechanisms you can't see to adjust something or make repairs.
While obviously it has no sense of touch, someone laying their hands on it feels deeply personal, and invasive if they do so without permission.
Even when I'm not in it, seeing people handle it feels strange, like an out-of-body experience seeing someone handling your limp form.
I can't stay in my chair all the time. It doesn't recline and has little padding so I get sore after long periods, and my country is also quite bad for wheelchair access. With help and a cane I can walk very short distances and transfer to a regular chair. But it's a strange kind of nakedness and helplessness without it. I've seen no better description of that feeling than the way pilots are portrayed outside of their mechs.

iirc it was like this terf who was absolutely fuming because her brother was dating a trans woman and she started claiming that she was clearly male socialized because the terf made quesadillas for dinner and the trans woman was like "wow :) this is really good, what is it?" and if she was a REAL woman she would instinctively KNOW what a quesadilla is
anyway it turns out the reason the poor woman didn't know what it was was because the terf had used hummus instead of cheese for some fucking reason so it wasn't even a quesadilla

I've been running this blog for over ten years now. Over that time, I've made 1999 monsters for Pathfinder RPG, all available for free on tumblr. Monster 2000 posts very soon. I'm not planning on quitting anytime soon; I've got some new ideas that'll really make 'em scream.
I am also a trans woman. Who was forced to quit her last job over being bullied by students in the classroom and the administration's insufficient response. I have gotten all of one job interview in the whole time I've been looking for work, and I didn't get that job. Although I have launched a Patreon, and I'm very proud of how active it is... it's only a fraction of my rent. And my savings are dwindling as costs are rising.

every so often this will get circulated around again and I resist the urge to start telling off the many, many transmascs who comment on it about how scary it was for them going on T because of this so "transmasc here, I totally get it" and its like. you don't. you really dont. the parallel of the lack of agency PAIRED with the ability to call for help is the entire thing. the consistent lack of understanding that estrogen doesn't change our voices. that it's something we just Lose and never get back. it fucks with me & every time I get a wave of Men Insisting They Understand Something That They Clearly Don't it's like. the poems keep writing themselves huh
