tumblr users love to bastardize Kimberlé Crenshaw’s concept of intersectionality like she didn’t explicitly state that oppressions compound. they don’t stack; they blend together and make each other more difficult to deal with and disentangle. many of you who do not exist at the intersection of specific oppressions tend to hem and haw about which is worse, which is more likely to get you hit by a car, etc. but her central argument is that, actually, there isn’t a world where one can exist at that intersection without the doubled risk of being struck. that is, the notable part is not whether she experienced racialized or misogynist violence (e.g., the direction the car was coming from) when women like Crenshaw experience misogynoir; it is the fact that she could not have been hit at all if she didn’t live in that intersection, and the likelihood that she was hit is significantly higher than if you exist at only one of those identities.

tma/tme are not arbitrary. one can choose not to participate in discussions on transmisogyny, but one shouldn't be surprised to be asked what one's relationship to transmisogyny is if one tries to enter into discussions on transmisogyny.

being a trans woman of color is incredible because "progressive" tme people will invoke my life and experiences to talk down to my white sisters as if they're uplifting me but when i try to speak with my own voice they pretend i dont exist

can white trans women be racist? of course. are they disproportionately racist compared to other sub-demographics of white people? not in my experience, no. my point with this post isn't to say that white trans women cannot be racist or should never be called out. instead, i hope it makes people question the motivations of some of these callouts. how genuine is the concern for poc when the one doing the callout is ignoring the voices of trans woc? it's obvious from where i stand that much of the concern about "racist trans women" is really a screen behind which pretty routine transphobia/transmisogyny is being hidden.
