therapy is absolutely useless for me because so much of my suffering comes from things out of my control that greatly affect my life, such as capitalism making it impossible for me to imagine a future where i can be comfortable and afford the things i need for survival, and therapists will hear this and go “hmmm have you considered focusing on what you can control instead? let’s have you notice 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch…” like wow genius advice, ignoring the problem isn’t going to make it any less impactful and in my face 24/7. but yeah i’ll keep spending $100 a week for someone in a position of authority to essentially tell me “just don’t think about that” and give me skills that serve to pacify me temporarily instead of actually make my life more livable
