All eyes on Delaney Hall. All eyes on ICE. All eyes on New Jersey.
Yesterday, May 30th, 2026, there was a protest at the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey. Before the protests started, over 300 detainees went on a hunger strike to protest horrid living conditions such as rotten, maggot infested food, unfair labor conditions, as well as other longstanding issues. Outside of the center, protestors showed up and demonstrated peacefully with signs and chants. Last night, police escalated the situation by throwing tear gas behind the group and flash bangs at civilian protestors' feet.
Whilst this was happening, riot police started a barricade to push the protestors back into gas, pinning protestors between riot police and tear gas. Protests should never be fought back with violence and now New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill blamed the escalation on outside forces sneaking into the crowd last night. A new 9pm to 6am curfew has been imposed until further notice, according to Mayor Ras Baraka.
