Restoring my dad's old letterpress. 1960 Ayers Jardine (Adana) Ten-Eight showcard press. Oiled, cleaned and treated the rust, debating whether to keep the patina of the peeling paint or to repaint it.
We received an order for letterpress business cards from a client in Fukuoka Prefecture.
Although it is no longer in production, the cards are printed on both sides using “Bolda” (blue-gray) paper—the front is letterpress printed, and the back is printed using standard printing.
Bolda is a synthetic paper with a unique two-tone color scheme on the front and back. It beautifully highlights the texture of the letterpress relief and pairs well with simple designs.

[image description: photos of a small card printed letterpress from handset type, and the form of type used to print it. The text is a sort of flowchart of gentle anxiety management questions, full text under the cut. the back side of the card is printed with a floral pattern in completely transparent ink, no color, only texture. it's about the size of a business card. end description.]
I've never printed these quite the same way twice since I'm always using salvaged paper but i had some extra cute columbine floral offcuts for this run :)
Got chosen for artist editions with the Aesthetic Union and was in house to choose the Pantone colors and watch masters work a traditional letterpress, printing on handmade gel plates. A wholesome crew who work as smoothly as the press itself, with father and son working the machine. Much respect for them and soon, letterpress prints will be available by end of month.
More art unearthed from my collection. Letterpress, 2008/9.
