I've been wearing fragrances seriously for about three months now. Nothing has come close to preparing me for Queen of Sheba by Teone Reinthal. The opening is an all-out assault β heavy, animalic, indolic, with a burnt rubber quality that the brain keeps misreading as something from a latrine before it recalibrates and realizes it's smelling florals. Jasmine and musk root dialed all the way up. It's aggressive and confrontational and it dares you to walk away. I almost did. Four hours in, something completely unexpected happens. The latex lifts. The acridity clears. What was once sour becomes ripely carnal β post-coital sweat, clean and intimate and utterly human. And suddenly the same composition that spent hours pushing me away was pulling me back in so hard I couldn't keep my nose off my wrist. Sixteen hours on skin. In the final moments the animalic quality concentrates rather than fades. She's still an animal at the end. Still asking if you can love her. The answer is yes.
