Should be Writing

AOTC Mace Windu is, imo, at his best. He's not the firm, apathetic voice of the Council rejecting a young Anakin Skywalker; he's the one supporting him quietly behind the scenes. He is trying to uphold Jedi's role as obstensibly impartial peacekeepers in what is ultimately a galactic civil war, not soldiers firmly on one side actively complicit in violence.

But then he steps onto the battlefield and slices off Jango Fett's head with his cool purple lightsaber and it all. goes downhill. from there.

(I do not think he was wrong for killing Jango Fett. btw.)

By ROTS, he has become a soldier. Corrupted by the war.

Mace Windu reflects the corruption of the Jedi Order between AOTC and ROTS because of their active participation in the clone wars.

That's his tragedy. in AOTC, he has the right ideas - support anakin, we should tell the senate/public about the force being clouded, we should not be soldiers - but he is overriden by yoda. I think mace windu would have been a better leader for the jedi order during its twilight years because he was not as calcified as yoda and was willing to stick to jedi principles and not submit to the whims of the senate or lie.

but he gives in. he corrupts. he tries to kill the sith. and he fails.
