anakin is so disability coded to me. let me take you out of everything you've known and considered normal, put you into an environment where nobody quite gets you, where everyone is a little skittish of you, where everyone treats you Different and even though they say Special you can tell by their reared heads that they mean Different
âŠwhere everyone dismisses your fears and simply tells you to be âmindfulâ as if youâre not already constantly tormented in your mind
"obi-wan's love for anakin, and his love for anakin's children, allowed luke skywalker to become a beacon of hope and bring anakin back to the light side," as if luke skywalker didn't do it against obi-wan's wishes, like, obi-wan explicitly didn't want luke to do any of that
i swear to fucking godddddd if anyone keeps calling anidala âtoxicâ because of mustafar. iâm losing my shit
do people not understand that anakin is not in his right mind???? like, he turned to the dark side, that should be a sign not everything is okay.
everything and everyone can be a trigger for him and all anger he consumed, being absolutely full of not himself, but anger and hatred, has ripped through him and thatâs why he force chokes padmĂ© and wants to kill obi-wan â because the only thought of âsheâs betrayed me, heâs betrayed me, they are against meâ is triggering him, and then he thinks that he should show them his anger and his revenge for that.
before mustafar and before anakin had turned, anidala had a beautiful, unconditional love and affection, deepness, understanding.
Anakin Skywalker was not intrinsically evil, but rather, he eventually descended into evil.
Yes, he struggled with a lot of unresolved trauma. Yes, he made very poor decisions at times and eventually commited unspeakable crimes. Yes, he is accountable for the role he played as Sidiousâ enforcer (slave). Nobody is disputing the gravity of all of that. BUT his descent into darkness should also be considered through the context of multiple factors, poor circumstances, maladaptive environments, bad influences, manipulative/neglectful or grooming mentors, and oppressive/corrupt institutions of a dying republic.
At one point, Anakin Skywalker was simply a young, bright eyed boy who made the most out of his life as a slave. He was willing to sacrifice everything for strangers he had just met without asking anything in return. At one point, he was a lost young man who just wanted love and connection despite facing reppression and loss at every turn. At one point he was a desperate, war-torn, traumatized man trying to save the love of his life and was manipulated into a bargain he never should have made.
George Lucas wanted to write a story where the hero becomes the villain. Itâs important to remember that any of us can become monsters, betray our principles, and hurt others if placed within the perfect storm of circumstance. Evil cannot be properly defined by personality, genes, or certain traits. We all have the potential to inadvertenly lose ourselves and become the very things that we swear we would never be. It would be naive to think otherwise.
Just because Anakin Skywalker eventually becomes Darth Vader does not mean that he was âalways evil.â It definitely does NOT mean that he ânever truly loved his loved onesâ or was âalways selfish.â Honestly, these takes are weird and do not make sense with the message of Star Wars. Anakinâs journey in the prequels is a tragedy.
If those were the case^ then itâs not supported by how the films are constructed. The character foundations established in TPM would cease to make sense. Luke Skywalkerâs victory on the death starâachieved not by killing Vader but by saving his father from the darkness he fell intoâwould be diminished and seem almost foolish.

*a post hyping up padmé*
someone conpletely missing the point in the comments: hey how about I make a shitty joke about how wonderful padmé is if you ignore her red flag husband -
me: padmé's marriage is a fundamental aspect of her character, and anakin's marriage is a fundamental aspect of his character. also if you think padmé has shit romantic taste, then idk what you are doing cosplaying as a padmé fan and misunderstanding the ever loving hell of what she wanted in a romantic partner (and who anakin skywalker actually was pre fall).
IâLL KISS YOU TWICE FOR DEATH
Vaderdala Week 2026 Prompt: Haunted & Classical Literature.
I chose to make an edit for this 8-month old story because a) Iâm teaching myself how to use CapCut, which is oodles of fun and b) you will find me geeking out about all my literary inspiration in the authorâs notes and comments throughout this particular Vaderdala fic. Itâs my love letter to the Gothic Romance genre that Iâm still quite proud of today! @vaderdalaweek
The thought that Anakin only âloves the ideaâ of PadmĂ© doesnât really make sense because itâs contradictory to the narrative of the PT and its tragic love, which sets up the OTâs later fulfillment of that love.
But even besides all that, I donât think people appreciate TPM enough. Anakin doesnât meet PadmĂ© as Queen or Senator Amidala. He doesnât meet her when sheâs at her most powerful or even most beautiful state. He doesnât even meet her in the midst of the Amidala persona, which sheâs artfully crafted, at all. All he sees is what he thinks is just a random girl who just happened to walk into his shop. Heâs immediately taken by her and calls her an angel. He fell in love with her before he even fully knew how important she was.
A consistent theme throughout TPM and later AOTC is that, while everyone adores PadmĂ© Amidala, Anakin adores PadmĂ© Naberrie. He sees her for who she is beneath it all. He understands what itâs like to be dehumanized, to have to give oneâs self away to a cause, and how devastating all that is for oneâs life. He offers his unconditional devotion to her because sheâs PadmĂ© and he loves her, not because of her title, power, or what she could do for him.
The love they share is not conditional or superficial. Itâs at the core of who he is. When heâs torn apart by conflict in ROTS between the Jedi and the Chancellor, he never truly makes any decision based on power or his ideals. Every decision he makes is based on his desperation to save her life, regardless of what it might cost him. He knows it will cost him. Unfortunately, the literal personification of evil uses that love against him.
"why did anakin and padmé get married why didn't they just date"
cos they're both insane. hope this helps
Anidala would not be same without their intense level of devotion. Theyâre match my freak, ride or die, all or nothing when it comes to the other â which saves the galaxy btw

the argument that anakin was only in love with the idea of padmé and not padmé herself is a shit idea that is completely misaligned with canon and show that you slept through TPM, AOTC and ROTS, actually.
anakin is the one person who knows and loves BOTH padmé naberrie and senator amidala. he knows that she can be stubborn - they have arguments throughout AOTC.
he is WELL aware of who his wife actually is, thank you very much.
his decision to fall was very much 'she will hate me but at least she will be alive' and by mustafar he's completely out of his mind
smh
Skyberrie Sketchđ
So I'm a very big fan of the Prequels as well as the political theming of the first three movies, but I really love Anakin and Padme so bad. They're in my top five ships every tbh. They just hit everything I love in a ship, tension, passion, angst, fluff, they're just so beautiful. I hate how doomed they are.
This is my first time actually drawing them [I did a gruvia sketch with their promo art as a reference so slight lie theređŹđ]. I think the most important part of sketching or drawing new characters is to nail expressions and identifiable features, details will come later.
Even though the dialogue between these two weren't always perfect [blame George Lucas and just read the novels instead], I always loved the crazy eye contact and chemistry between Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman. They just look so in love y'know?
[Such intense and romantic eye contact, I love them so bad!]
Hope y'all like this first attempt with them, I might draw more of them in the future and pretend the last 30 minutes of Rots isn't real đ.
"I Hate My Spouse" straight marriage jokes are stupid but I find them especially stupid when done with Anidala. They're literally risking it all to be together! If they hated and resented each other they wouldn't be doing all that.
Something that goes unnoticed in ROTS is that Anakin actually does defend the Jedi and pushes back against palps in the opera scene despite his grievances with the order.
So what actually gets him to jump off the deep end? The fear of Padmé dying and his desperation to prevent it, which palps correctly pivots to exploiting.
It doesnât make logical sense for Anakin to do all that he did and actually not love his wife. It doesnât make logical sense for PadmĂ© to then leave everyone and everything behind, chase after Anakin, and beg him to run away together and actually not love her husband. like what???
anidalaâs love is not built on fear (what even is aotc?), it is built on mutual devotion and affection. theirs is a genuine, true love.* their love wasnât possession disguised as devotionâthatâs an inherently wrong reading of the movies. anakin wants to possess the fate of the ones he loves, not possess people.
they didnât âclingâ to each other, nor was thisâthat they didnât trust love to exist without clinging to itâthe case about them (how did you even get to here?). they chose each other freely, again and again. their love existed despite everythingâwar, secrecy, jediâand it flourished. they are absolutely happy, stable, and willing to get away in the beginning of rots. their love or their faith in their love was never the issueâthey had complete and utter faith in their love.
their love did not âtwistâ into anything. it stayed true and deep until the end, and was corrupted by the darkside.
anakin's fall is built on his fear of lossâhis archetypal flaw as is the norm in a greek tragedy, and his fear of loss predates their relationship, originating in his childhood and forming into a wound with his motherâs death. the tragedy being true love being corrupted because of the faustian bargain anakin made with the devil. the tragedy hinges on their love being true and pure.
their love and padmĂ©âs belief in anakin is also ultimately vindicated in the storyâat the end of OT.
their love was not the flaw! anakinâs fear of loss was!
also, itâs a mythic, larger than life love. stop judging it with modern, contemporary standardsânot that they don't meet them pre-mustafar. they are built beyond realism.
*quote from lucas
anidala ant*s call anidala toxic, codependent (wanting to save your wife from dying is not codependency btw), etc. but cant really provide accurate examples. and when they do, the examples are a dramatic twisting of events. it just leads me to believe you just hate love and romance period.
and if you hate anakin and padmé so much why are you interacting with those who adore them. this is a rhetorical question.

personally not a fan of the idea, perpetuated by the johnston novels, that the handmaidens knew padmé best
anakin knew padmé best. padmé's real self - a flawed, messy human who had needs and desires and wants - was buried with her corpse, substituted for a flawless legacy of an ideal.
Sometimes, I think the Amidala mask fools most of the audience, just evidenced by the fact that many donât recognize PadmĂ© as a valid character unless sheâs yelling at someone or has a blaster in her hand.
The Naboo handmaidens were intimately familiar with the Amidala persona. They had to perfectly mimic it after all.
But I think Anakin is the only character who sees right through to PadmĂ© Naberrie, the woman underneath it all. Both are the only characters that are allowed to completely see the otherâs flaws, anxieties, and vulnerabilities.
if the naberrie family AOTC deleted scenes have no fans, then I am dead
Let Anakin be the indulgent cool uncle. Iâm begging. He lets Pooja and Ryoo decorate his prosthetic with stickers and do make up on him. Picking up from PadmĂ© he is âuncle Aniâ.
In a happier world heâs the uncle they call when theyâre in trouble and donât want their parents to know.
love this! uncle anakin rights.
