The real answer for why a dumb decision gets made in sports though is virtually always the billionaire owners either (1) grossly overestimating their own competence and making completely bizarre business decisions, or (2) pulling shady dark money business, or (3) trying to dodge having to pay their workers [players and their staff] or taxes [salary cap], or (4) being a raging bigot. Just like IRL.

I was rewatching episode 4, and couldn't help zooming into noticing that when Shane scrolls on his phone to his last contact with "Lily", there's no address to Ilya's house. Sure it's probably a continuity error, but it's funnier to imagine that Ilya sending 2886 Beacon in episode 2, at least 3 years ago, was Ilya's his attempt at inviting Shane to his actual house. And that he's been continually sending the same invitation but Shane only agreed at long last in 2016.
