ME SHADOWBANEARON MI BLOG
Ever since I took a class on material culture and the significance of things and objects in our lives, I’ve started taking note of relevant readings I come across. For those interested, below is a partial list:
Objects of Despair: Inspired by Roland Barthes, Meghan O’Gieblyn’s monthly column examines contemporary artifacts and the mythologies we have built around them.
Fake Meat | Mirrors | Mars | Drones | The 10,000-Year Clock
Concrete: The Most Destructive Material on Earth (more on The Guardian’s “Concrete Week”)
The Unfortunate Fate of Childhood Dolls by Rainer Maria Rilke
AirPods Are a Tragedy
Thinging the Real: On Bill Brown’s “Other Things”
Sum Effects: “Personal or real, tangible or intangible, durable, hard, soft, consumable, or perishable: my grandmother owned none of it. Goldyne Alter died with no possessions.”
A janitor rescued migrants’ possessions from a border facility’s trash. Now they’re art.
Evocative Objects: Things We Think With, ed. by Sherry Turkle
Friendly Floatees
Great Pacific garbage patch
Plastic: an autobiography by Allison Cobb
Curating the Anthropocene: “Imagine a future archeologist on a dig in what was once downtown Los Angeles, excavating, exposing layers of history, like the paleontologists at the La Brea Tar Pits are doing today, finding bones of saber-toothed cats, mammoth, and dire wolves. What does the archeologist of the future find?”
The System of Objects by Jean Baudrillard
My master thesis on The Bed
I’m in a class called Object Design rn so this is very useful to me and also I have a few more!
Fewer Better Things by Glenn Adamson
The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction by Ursula K. Le Guin
Queer Phenomenology by Sara Ahmed (full disclosure this was an assigned reading and a lot of the heavier philosophical stuff started to go over my head but if that’s your thing it is interesting!)
The Bureau of Suspended Objects by Jenny Odell

Tumblr ceo Matt Mullenweg wearing a tumblr shirt while on vacation in occupied Palestine in 2010 😍 (taken only shortly after Israel raided a flotilla containing hundreds of Pro Palestine protestors and 10,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid they were trying to deliver to Gaza due to Israel’s blockade)
Not to be overly serious on the dash so early in the morning but if you agree with this in its entirety then you are just genuinely wrong. Fatphobia primarily enforces eating disorders and bars people from recovery but, for just one example, I do not believe the ed someone (who? Yeah.) developed as a result of lifelong sexual abuse and assault, grooming, and complete disconnection from their body and dissociation from reality is actually a divine punishment for their inherent fatphobic bias. Some people do choose to deliberately disorder their eating for fatphobic reasons. This is always true. All restrictive eds are bolstered and strengthened through fatphobia, this is always true. Many people with eating disorders will never begin recovery because of fatphobia. This is always true. But the deadliest mental illness is not a divine punishment for not being good enough to kill one of the most pervasive social biases drilled into one's head from birth. And I don't think we get anywhere by framing it like that
many eating disorders, especially restrictive ones, actually have fucking nothing at all to do with weight or health or anything. Eating disorders are frequently about an unhealthy or disordered relationship with control and autonomy, like in the above example. They can be a result of religious or sexual abuse; physical abuse, especially that suffered by child athletes; traumatic experiences related to poverty and food insecurity; forced hospitalization, institutionalization, medication, or feeding; and - extremely extremely extremely quietly commonly - the trauma experienced as a marginalized person, especially a racialized or transgender person. The frequency of eating disorders among transgender people in particular is staggering.
does fatphobia enable and promote eating disorders developed in these circumstances? Obviously. But treating eating disorders like they are a choice people make as a deliberate expression of fatphobia is... well, you tell me. What would I know? It apparently isn't a mental illness, or a coping disorder, or even a real problem on anything other than a personal and individual level, right? And if we were all just personally stronger and better and had more discipline and control over ourselves and our minds and our bodies, we'd be saved from it? Huh, okay

A hospital strike in Sudan’s East Darfur state has killed at least 70 people and injured more than 140, as the United Nations warned of escalating violence and a surge in drone attacks across the country.
Speaking at a U.N. press briefing in Geneva on Tuesday, a World Health Organization official said Al Daein Teaching Hospital, the main referral facility in the regional capital, was hit on March 20.
Initial reports put the death toll at 64, but it later rose to 70, including seven women and 13 children, according to Hala Khudari, the WHO’s acting deputy representative in Sudan. A total of 146 people were injured, including patients and relatives. One doctor and two nurses were killed, while eight other health workers were wounded.
The hospital, which serves more than 2 million people in Al Daein and surrounding areas, sustained heavy damage, particularly to its outpatient and emergency departments.

The WHO has verified 213 attacks on health care in Sudan since April 2023, resulting in more than 2,000 deaths and nearly 800 injuries. In 2025, Sudan accounted for 82% of reported deaths from such attacks globally, according to the agency’s monitoring system.
Separately, the U.N. human rights office warned of a sharp increase in drone strikes, which it said have killed more than 500 civilians between Jan. 1 and March 15, most of them in the Kordofan region.
Marta Hurtado, a spokesperson for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, said drone attacks have continued in recent days. On March 21, a strike on a convoy of commercial vehicles in Al Daein reportedly killed 23 people.

Exiled politician calls for sanctions against President Yoweri Museveni’s regime
Speaking to the Mail & Guardian from Washington DC, Ssentamu, also known by his stage name Bobi Wine, said: “I had to save my life to be able to speak to the world and later, I will return to my country for the regime to do whatever they want to me in the full glare of the world. My fight is in Uganda.”
Bobi Wine, under the National Unity Platform, was one of seven opposition candidates that challenged Museveni for the presidency on 15 January. Museveni won a seventh term with 71.65% of the vote, while Bobi Wine came second with 24.72% in a disputed election.
Bobi Wine said it was not an election but “a military operation” that resulted in his house arrest, while his wife and family members were tortured.
Major general Muhoozi Kainerugaba – Uganda’s military commander and son of the president – has used social media to issue direct, inflammatory threats against Bobi Wine, including threats to “behead” him or “castrate” his associates.
About his escape, he said he was assisted by some in the military and police who also felt oppressed under the Museveni establishment.
“There are many oppressed men and women in uniform and these are the people who helped me to escape,” he said. “That’s why, to me, the issue is about the Ugandan people versus their oppressor.”
Now in the US, Bobi Wine is calling on international pressure for sanctions against the Ugandan strongman.

The ERP was the armed wing of the Workers' Revolutionary Party (PRT) in Argentina. It waged a guerilla campaign against the then Argentine military dictatorship in 1969, the ERP would be crushed during the U.S. backed "Dirty War"
Two French nuns Léonie Duquet and Alice Domon, arrested by the Argentine military regime, forced to pose with the banner of the Montoneros guerrilla group, shortly before being killed, Argentina, 1977
Both women were members of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, an association of Argentine mothers whose children “disappeared” during the state terrorism of the military dictatorship, between 1976 and 1983.

for all my non-Argentinian, non-latinoamerican, non-spanish-speaking followers and visitors of my blog, i very politely and very humbly urge you all to take a moment of your day to read about the last military dictatorship in Argentina.
today, March 24th 2026, we commemorate 50 years since the coup that changed our history forever. Only 50 years. let that sink in.
I second this post, and I'd also like to add that the name English Wikipedia uses to refer to the dictatorship is the euphemistic term the genocidal dictators themselves called it. The legitimisation of state terrorism and negationism still endure today.
