I was about to make a post about like… how my family has this lemon tree out front, and one of the funniest things about having a lemon tree is occasionally I’ll be out in front doing whatever and I’ll see someone walking past and quickly grab a lemon off the tree and stuff it in their pockets as quick as they can like they’re shoplifting.
I was about to make a post about how that’s funny and how, y’know people can have our lemons, it’s not a big deal because the tree pumps them out like gangbusters, but I really can’t make that post without thinking of… them…

We have a pomegranate tree in our front yard. Nobody planted it. It just appeared one day, long before I moved in, and now it’s both huge and productive.
I’ve had at least two delivery drivers comment on it, and I invited them to come back when they were ripe and help themselves, because we always have far more than we can hope to deal with.

When I lived in rural Japan, I was walking down an alleyway and suddenly heard a BANG followed by the sound of rolling thunder and then I was struck in the head by a flying object the size of a baseball. When I got my bearings I realized a tree had dropped a fat persimmon onto the angled corrugated metal roof of a shed which redirected the fruit’s velocity directly towards my dome.
I was too startled and disoriented to scrump it but now I have a lifelong wariness around persimmon trees.

Lately I've been seeing lots of "modern" or "instant classic" talk about media that just came out. That stuff has always rubbed me the wrong way.
Can't just assert that any art will stand the test of time a priori like that! That's the sort of deviant practice that people actively developing nostalgia for the present engage with.
Another pet peeve somewhat related to this is when a critic describes something as "X won't be for everyone." Well, yeah, I know. I've enjoyed the breadth of human experience before. I know how this shit works.
How about instead you tell me WHY it won't be for everyone or what makes something polarizing?
