honestly it was a stroke of genius on matt dinniman’s part to put dungeon crawler “daddy issues so bad they have a body count” carl in basically permanent proximity to manager “my entire role in this joint is to parent you through surviving the apocalypse but hey no i’m not your dad no way also don’t look at these pseudo-real kids i’ve secretly adopted” mordecai while also establishing that both of these two people are willing, able, and emotionally intelligent enough to express how much they love the people around them. it gets even better when you throw in the sapient AI with an explicit daddy kink and a front-row seat to their every move. totally won’t give anyone any crossed wires there, uh-uh, no way son— i mean daddy—i mean—

not to have the yaoi glasses on or anything but any time mordecai calls carl “son” it sounds and reads like this horrible amalgamation of genuine familial love and affection combined with mordecai desperately trying to convince himself and everyone else that he isn’t unbearably attracted to the great idiot reckless lummox that asks him three million heart attack inducing questions an hour and doesn’t listen to any of his answers

if matt dinniman didn’t want me shipping that human man with that grumpy old eagle changeling then he shouldn’t have had carl say “indulge me? please?” in that soft little voice and he absolutely shouldn’t have had mordecai immediately fold like an overcooked spaghetti noodle
