Sometimes you realize your bread is moldy right before you use it to make a grilled cheese sandwich. No problem. You can make bread. You do it all the time. It'll be cutting it a little close to getting a full night's rest after you make your sandwich but the siren song of a grilled cheese on fresh bread whispers sensuously in your ear. So you make the bread but don't listen to yourself when you think you should add more water. It's fine. This recipe is very forgiving. So what if it doesn't rise quite the way you want? It's not flat or anything. You do forget the parchment paper inside your bread dish (probably on account of you being so fucking hungry at this point) but you'll just pry it out later.

The bread is done. You barely manage to pry out the end, your favorite part. All thoughts of sandwiches are abandoned. You want to be in bed more than anything. The bread tastes awful. It's dry and flavorless. You eat more anyway because fuck spending any more time in this damn kitchen. You go to bed deeply humbled, but comforted knowing that in the thousands of years of humans baking bread someone has fucked it up in the exact same way. You are holding hands with an ancient Mesopotamian across the vast river of time.

Anyways in completely unrelated news, my mother laughed at me for eating the same dinner as a Dickensian orphan.

Trying to explain DCC to my friends is so hard bc you have to bring up bullshit like “yeah so he takes a bowl of snickers from the first book, does a funny dance with them around the ankles of the boss, and then uses an ingame exploit that makes bosses deathly allergic to peanuts and explode into confetti.”
