Transformation dress, 1900-05 by Jacques Doucet
A transformation dress is just a fancy name for dresses that have two different bodies. Interestingly the museum page says this dress was made for a courtesan.

Afternoon Dress
c. 1875
by House of Worth
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Watermill Classic cover for Eight Cousins is a definite improvement over the one for Under the Lilacs - it not only shows the titular characters, they're even somewhat recognisable.
(Well, sort of. I can at least make a stab at all of them, although Archie and Charlie are definitely not drawn old enough.)
However, the writer for the back cover synopsis appears to have been labouring under a misconception of exactly how many cousins there are.
