pov you suck at ace attorney and the new detective doesnt pull punches
Related to theĀ āloss of speechā event, it happened while I was with a NT friend. I was so overwhelmed, I gradually stopped being able to talk out loud at all. I knew I needed to warn my friend somehow, because it was her birthday and her daughterās as well, and I didnāt want to ruin that for her.
I typed a few words on my phone to explain the situation, and you know what she did? She just saidĀ āAlright, I get it.ā and she didnāt make a big deal out of it. She went out of her way for the restaurant folks to be mindful and turn down the sound of the (very loud) music, without ever specifying that I was disabled.Ā
She was mindful to ask meĀ āyes or noā questions, and when she had to ask open questions, she waited for me to type it out on my phone.
She also explained the situation quickly to her children, and asked them to be mindful and not talk to me too much (which I was grateful for, because those children can be so chatty and loud sometimes, even if theyāre nice x) ). All in all, she was nothing, but understanding. And the situation didnāt worsen, thanks to that.
If youāre NT or allistic and you want to be a good ally, take notes. Whether your autistic friend/folk/whatever they are to you is fully nonverbal or only experiencing episodes of speech loss, respect their needs, and accept that spoken language isnāt the only viable way to communicate.Ā
If youāre in a position to do something to help them and make the situation easier on them, donāt hesitate. If youāre not, be understanding and allow them an out. Donāt force them to stay and suffer, and, more than that, donāt complain afterward if the person is then having a meltdown.

I wish more people got this because some ālow-empathyā people are the most compassionate and sympathetic in the universe, and I hate it when thatās taken to meanĀ āunfeeling and probably hostileā when nothing could be further from the truth
Or, as my dad put it,
Sympathy: I know how you feel Empathy: I feel how you feel Compassion: is there anything I can do to help?
Sympathy: that sucks bro empathy: I feel that compassion: want me to send you some puppy and kitten pictures to make you feel better?
Posts like this make me feel so much better. It always seems like society treat responses to others pain as though empathy is the most important kind. I am around 85% compassionate and this post helped me not feel like I am a monster because of that for once.
People use these words as similes but⦠theyāre not.

imposter syndrome in autism is so..... im rotating it in my mind
part of the reason people go years without knowing theyre autistic because they dont āactā autistic in front of other people is because theyve been so conditioned to repress their symptoms that they become unobservable, sometimes even to themselves. this is masking. its not a light switch that can be turned on and off again. its the gradual repression and punishment for acting anything but neurotypical and the construction of a new, more socially acceptable identity.
as time goes on and your most āoffensiveā symptoms are āunder controlā the only things that remain are the ones that only hurt you and the exhaustion. you cant even unwind fully in private because of the fear of being āwrongā. the reason so many autistic people struggle with identity is because weāve literally been forced to abandon who we are at a core level and make one to appease the world. forced to act completely against our nature in order to... act more ānaturalā.
the worst part of this is that theres no winning. you either show your symptoms/get diagnosed and face belittlement, infantilization, restrictions of freedom, or you mask, you hide away, and receive no support because no one believes you. no one understands how, when externally you SEEM so ācompetantā, you could be suffering so constantly. you either set yourself ablaze for the world to observe or spend the rest of your life tending burns no one else can see.
Itās too early in the morning for me to be called out like this
why do people think people with autism and people with adhd hate each other. i for one am kissing all my autistic friends and mutuals on the hand like itās a victorian period novel

This is such a great post! Deaf and hard of hearing people are members of our community, so letās show them some love. You can learn ASL online using the resources in this post: http://mashable.com/2014/04/21/how-to-sign/#SdHJ06gZ1Zqy
I will never not reblog this. Itās so hard to come across this post and this aināt something ASL class will teach you. Sign language is spectrum of widely used languages (they differ country to country) and you never know when youāre going to need it.
i do feel out of place on this site because of how much people talk about feral sexy unhinged sniveling blood all over murderous insane menā¦. what about the normal guys ā¹ļø . . do we not support guys who get a iced caramel beverage from starbucks and go āwowie this tastes good šā .. what happened to loving all of gods creations equally.. ā¹ļø
This is the funniest and most thoughtful Iāve ever seen an organization use a meme and itās good people with good goals who donāt just want your money on top of it
For those of you who arenāt aware the Monterey Bay Aquarium is actually a really cool place!
⢠they are non-profit
⢠they have a living kelp forest!
⢠it focuses on local ocean wildlife
⢠they were the first aquarium to get a great white shark to eat and they are the only public aquarium to display a great white shark for more than sixteen days
⢠they have a seafood watch program where they promote sustainable seafood
⢠they are actively fighting against ocean pollution
So yeah support them, theyāre awesome and I love them
They also have a tumblr @montereybayaquarium

Folks, friends, yāallā¦. esk*mo is a slur. I understand a lot of people donāt know that, I donāt want to be a dick about it, but Iāve been seeing it in fics. Wanna write āesk*mo kissesā? Just say ānuzzled nosesā or something.
Iām not here to call anybody out, itās been in multiple fics, Iām not vague posting. This is just a psa. šš»
If you could help me spread awareness about this by reblogging, Iād really appreciate it.
Iāve had this post on insta saved for sometime ā¤ļø
[Text Description: āHey! Reminder: Eskimo is a slur. It means āsnow eatersā in Cree and is a slur against Inuit . Also donāt use āEskimo kissesā. Itās called Kunik. It is a greeting mostly used for family⦠Kunik was how Iād greet my mom and grandmother as a small child.ā /TD]
Rebloging for the awareness and especially for the alternative words
And so people who are just learning this now know the proper usage: āInuitā is plural. The singular is āInukā, as in āhe is an Inukā
to all the neurotypical miles edgeworth enthusiasts
headcanon whatever you want but this man canonically uses logic chess as a way to navigate conversations. it may be just me but that's one of the most autistic things i've seen a character do ever.
*to clarify: I do not mean neurotypical fans who like miles edgeworth, I mean people who headcanon him as neurotypical
*to clarify further: this is not meant to come off as aggressive, merely enthusiastic because I certainly use logic chess as a way to navigate social situations (note: I am bad at chess)
reading the art of war to learn how to navigate social situations

If I had a nickel for every time I fell for a black-haired lawyer who is emotionally repressed, good with weapons, and would do anything for their loved ones I would have three nickels. Which is not a lot, but it's weird that it happened three times.

reblog and put in the tags if you think your profile pic would have a good met gala outfit
Okay but after seeing this I started doing it too and itās amazing how many men Iāve run into bc they expected me to move
Gotta try it
I work (and walk) on a college campus. Iāve lost count of how many men Iāve smacked shoulders with.
Recently, I was standing outside my sonās classroom waiting to talk to his teacher. I stood on one side of the hallway, not even close to the center. At some point, a man came walking along. I was standing right in his path, but the hallway was empty, so I logically expected him to swerve around me. Instead he kept walking right toward me, got to me, and stopped, as if waiting for me to get out of his way. I didnāt; I just smiled politely at him. He finally walked around me, clearly annoyed that I hadnāt leapt out of his manly path.
Now Iām wishing Iād leapt aside, taken off my jacket and laid it on the floor before him, then bowed deeply and said, āMy Liege!ā
I also work at a college campus. I smack shoulders sometimes, but I find that if I stare straight ahead and follow the advice below, people get the heck out of the way.
Honestly this post changed how I carry myself when walking alone in public, or in a situation where Iām the one leading. People definitely move for the murder gaze.
Confirmed. I once had to rush back inside a convention hall as the con was closing in order to a retrieve a sick friendās medication, and I didnāt understand why people in the crowd were jumping out of my way (literallyāone guy vaulted a table) until I realized I was dressed as the Winter Soldier and doing the Murder Walk because thatās just how I walk in those boots. I got the meds, got out, and made a mental note.
I repeated the experiment later, wearing the boots but otherwise my usual clothing and mimicking the expression I thought Iād had at that moment. People parted like I was Charlton Heston.
I now wear that style of boots whenever possible. I recently had a man do a double-take as I walked by and ask me, politely, where I had served because I ālooked like a soldier.ā Iām not current or former military. I was wearing a flowy purple peasant top and looked as un-soldierlike as possible.
Moral of the story: wear comfortable shoes, square your shoulders, and walk like youāve been sent to murder Captain America.
WALK LIKE YOUāVE BEEN SENT TO MURDER CAPTAIN AMERICA
Itās called the Murder Strut.
ITāS BACK!!!!!! I was searching for this to show my daughter the other day and couldnāt find it. Iām so glad ITāS BACK!! I will always reblog the Murder Strut!!
A guy on a bike went around me because he could tell I had no intention of moving. Thanks to this post.
One day and I bumped into a guy while doing the Murder Strut and he apologized to me even though I was the one who had bumped into him.
It works wonders.
In case you were wondering, yes you can do this in a wheelchair. Same look in your eyes and let āem know you will run them down. Just picture yourself in a sports car accelerating towards someone with the intention of flattening them.
If thereās anything more satisfying than watching Abled men leap out of my way when they realize Iām not moving for them, I canāt think of it atm.
Walk like youāve been sent to murder Captain America.
Wheel like youāre gonna win the Indy 500 and donāt care how.
Your crutches are short swords; walk like you can see them buried in the bodies of anyone who crosses (in front of) you.
Tumblr: teaching women how to be Moses and part the fucking Red Sea with the power of their minds.
I had never seen these updates to the Patriarchy Chicken Game before and they are all a goddam DELIGHT
Patriarchy Chicken and The Murder Strut, dance names for the new millenium.Ā
OH MY GOD I HAD BARELY SCROLLED DOWN THIS POST AND WAS GONNA SAY āJUST TAKE SOME ADVICE FROM ME THAT I LEARNT FROM AN OLD TUMBLR POST ABOUT WALKING LIKE THE WINTER SOLDIER FROM YEARS AGOā BUT THEN IT TURNED OUT TO BE THIS POST
I first discovered this a few years ago when I was an insecure 14-year-old, and since then I indeed do the āmurder strutā and staunch everywhere I go, literally works wonders
murder strut works wonders in the airport and school.
Back in HS, other kids would kinda stream behind me like the tail of a comet because I was several inches taller than most of the student population and the Murder Strut was justā¦how I walked. Amazingly effective.
In case you have forgotten. The Murder Strut works!
Patriarchy Chicken Game
