The original concept that humans complete the act of creation by making bread from wheat is from the Talmud! And the specific "wheat but not bread, grapes but not wine" phrasing is from Jewish theologian Abraham Heschel but it is missing "clay but not bricks".

And among trans Jews the sentiment was already popular before I ever started seeing this specific phrasing so I knew, knew, knew a Jew and likely a trans Jew was involved.

As it happens, Ortberg's friend Julian is Jewish and they have strongly negative feelings about the way the quote has been removed from the context of their life as someone trans and Jewish. They used to have a thread up on xwitter about it but have since made their account private and only have a very terse FAQ online from which you can glean the treatment they likely received when being more open about their Jewishness, relationship to transness, and the interaction of both.

the "milkman" is a common figure in stories depicting a woman's infidelity and adulterous affair.

this implies that the ability to provide milk would both decrease the likelihood of a man abandoning his wife and children, as it would eliminate the need for leaving to get milk AND would secure that man's marriage, as his wife would have no need to seek milk from an extraneous source.

therefore, all men should produce milk, through various means such as:

- being a cow

- being an almond

- being a woman

- being a coconut

- being in the omegaverse

- being an oat

I think it made it very clear that all the horrible things Jax did was WRONG. He pushed his friends away and drove them to abstraction, and it's very clear that he was being a horrible person. He even admits he's awful and the weight of it is crushing him.

But Pomni still goes to try to save him because even if he is a horrible person, that doesn't mean you leave them when they're hurting. A person doing horrible things doesn't mean you let them abstract or kill themselves or whatever. The whole point of the show has always been, "The worst thing you can do is make someone think they aren't loved." Yeah, Pomni doesn't hold him accountable for the things he did when she finds him inside the abstraction, but he is literally ABSTRACTING right then. That's not the time to deal with all that, he already confessed that he was a bad person. He needed love right then, not a demand he fix every wrong he ever did right then.
