These germanium boosts are pretty close to my heart, they started as a collaboration with Simon at @jsa_effect_pedals based on a circuit he had been tinkering with which isolated a positive ground germanium transistor behind a buffer in a negative ground circuit. Simply put, a circuit that can use old fuzz face components but that doesn’t need a battery or a reversed power supply, and that can be daisy-chained with other pedals without issues. The circuit sounded great and we agreed that we should launch it through Underfluked, as we had the LTM and others. I designed the PCB and the result was initially something we were going to call the Boomer Boost, with graphics produced by @hubcap_john of a very Colonel Saunders looking old geezer sitting on a fender combo. Time passed, pandemics, family, stress and nightmarish stuff ensued for almost everyone and now here we are with the reboot of @underfluked and the launch of the Dirty Boy germanium boost pedal. The “OK, Boomer” day had passed and the graphics, while excellent, now weren’t quite right. I’m pleased as can be with these, and the roadworn enclosure. This allows me to repurpose the enclosures for the Little Treble Makers, while the Underfluked Boost, also roadworn, makes use of repurposing the FuZR cream enclosures. Which keeps costs down as I already have far too much money tied up in that stock. Anyway, these are solid germanium treble boosts with a volume and grit control, they work on standard power and I think they sound great. It’s a JSA circuit that we’ve placed on a pcb and therefore reduced the noise of the germanium transistors are far as we can. Built to order, £100+shipping.
