certainly there are more of them now than there have ever been but it's crazy how "annoying dude who thinks he's just like the romans" has been an unfortunately common Type of Guy for well over a millennium

you don’t hate theater kids, you are combining your half remembered high school experience from five or ten years ago of not really talking to them with a general cultural narrative about what is cringe plus some of chris flemming’s more middling standup. you don’t hate theater, you just haven’t interacted with it since your sophomore class did penzance. i bet you still think broccoli is yucky too. you will die. look at me. look me in the eyes. we’re both gonna die. sooner than either of us is willing to admit. can you imagine that for me? can you imagine the experience of non experience? i don’t care what you believe happens after death, i’m talking about not being you anymore. i’m talking about staring up at the stars and being so overwhelmed you’re afraid they’ll open up and swallow you whole. we have very little time together on this earth, which may as well just be a dream. are you really going to spend it all avoiding new experiences? are you really going to spend it all clinging to Just What Makes You Comfortable? read shakespeare, or better yet, find out when a mediocre or even pretty good local theater company is doing hamlet and experience what it’s like to hear a 500 year old playwrights dusty verse come to life. do you know that’s where the term drag comes from? do you know we have a debt to these bygone poets and singers and actors so long dead that only a few are even remembered? will you be remembered? you are not on this earth to be comfortable, smug, and self satisfied in your stagnation. experience something while experience is still yours.

my bad guys just checked the notes and saw someone proclaiming that they don’t fuck with poetry. like the whole medium of poetry. like any of it. like. like poetry, which god gave us so we could describe the world and love each other. like poetry, without which lyrical music would not exist. like poetry, the basis for prose, the basis for theater, the basis for screenwriting, the basis for all other forms of literature and storytelling. like all of it. all fucking poetry. in the whole world. in the 4000 year history of the written word. just all poetry ever. just not for them. i fucking guess.
