The only truly effective way to avoid internalizing conspiracy theories and pseudoscience is to inoculate yourself against them by learning how to recognize them when you see them, which includes learning their history, their tropes, and their overall characteristics. It also includes learning information literacy and strengthening your critical thinking skills. Trying to avoid encountering them at all does nothing to inoculate you, which leaves you vulnerable to internalizing them from an unexpected source. You cannot give in to lazy/reactionary thinking on this one.

I want to emphasize here that you absolutely cannot trust your progressive friends to never fall prey to some kind of BS and pass it on to you. Conspiracy theories and pseudoscience are like viruses; they evolve and adapt to propagate in whatever environment they're in. Antisemitism often masquerades as feminism. Christofascism often masquerades as saving abused children. Anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism often masquerades as sticking it to the white academics. No matter how progressive you think your friends are, you cannot trust them to do your thinking for you.

I am not sure I’m equipped or qualified enough to ever make this, but I just had an idea pop into my head. There are many resources out there for finding mental health professionals who are queer affirming, neurodivergent affirming, affirming of different types of relationships, etc… Wouldn’t one for alterhuman affirming ones be awesome? Out of curiosity, I did a quick google and only found like 3 or so who explicitly mention such a thing on their profile, but imagine if there was a way to make a user submitted database of ones people in the community could vouch for (or ones who were just below the surface of the cursory Google searches I did lol) on top of that. Idk, just a thought!

say it with me kids. just cause i experience nonhumanism, alterhumanity, otherkin feelings, physical and non physical therian feelings, gender identity a certain way doesn’t mean someone else does. my experiences do not define the labels others use to define themselves. i can freely and happily explore my identity whatever that entails no matter how many times it changes. it is okay if i explore something and it turns out it isn’t for me. gender sexuality and species identities cannot be limited by rules and boxes. no you are not faking it if you truly and deeply feel a certain way. i don’t have to seek validation from others to confirm my feelings and my experiences. i don’t have to be like everyone else to feel validated.

Like ys, this animal is not me in the same way pthers are, but i has become a part of me, and probably always has been, in a way that is so truly incredible. It impacts how I view the world, how I act, where I go, all while not being it in the same way. It might even impact me more on some levels. My heart is of this beast and it is wonderful.

I ask because I think it’s interesting that I have a very long kinlist and for like pretty much all of the kintypes I have memories of, I remember being a man and having generally the same sexual orientation (though I may have used different terminology for it in those lives than I currently use now). But I know plenty of people whose identities are wildly different from their kintype! I also think it’s interesting that it’s about an even split on lives where I’m cis and ones where I’m trans, so despite my body I still always seem to heavily lean masc lol.
