No it's not, you just don't talk about being non-human.

I too have said "I wish I could meet more therians irl", I'm pretty sure I've even posted about it on here. So, do you wanna know what I did? I STARTED TELLING PEOPLE I'M A THERIAN.
I posted on my Instagram story "coming out" and 4 people slid up saying "wait, you're a bat? That's so cool I'm a ____" and eventually I put "batdogthing" in my bio and every now and then I get dms from people saying "I had no idea you were a therian, me too!"
On dating apps, every person I've gone on a date with or talked to for an extended period of time is a therian, I found this out by telling them I was a therian first!!
My point is most therians are scared of telling others so be the one to mention it first!
If you don't just wanna tell everyone I'd recommend telling these beings first: furrys, anyone who identifys as cat/pup/ect gender, neo/xeno pronoun users, anyone who identifys as a gender related to a character!
something i do in public is to compliment beings with gear/wear gear myself, as well as talk loudly about my alterhuman identity or casually do quads or bark or whatever
just expressing your identity around others (in safe environments) not only helps you find like-minded beings, but inspires others to be themselves more
i can guarantee if there's a population of over 1000 people, there's gotta be at least one other alterhuman in your area
also, a few of my friends awakened as altherhuman around the same time as me (some with my inflluence, other's with no influence at all), if you're hanging around like minded beings they may be more like you than you think
tldr; be openly yourself (as safely as possible), you find like-minded beings and inspire others, alterhumans may be where you least expect
