i think a lot of queer discourse / infighting online really boils down to the fact that yall 1. don’t read 2. refuse unpack your biases and 3. don’t regularly speak to people in real life

transitioning is a being trapped in a waiting room
being forced to wait
you are waiting for something that never seems like it’ll come
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and
a decade of waiting and i’m not anywhere near where i want to be
i feel like i’m just starting
and waiting
and feeling behind all of your peers
and waiting
like you’re a teenage boy instead of a man at nearly twenty-one
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and
feeling terrified at every turn, like the rug will be ripped out from underneath you any moment now
and waiting
and waiting
and waiting
and
the word waiting doesn’t even look like a real word anymore

this is going to ruffle some feathers but i considered myself a swiftie for years but have felt disconnected from her for at least the last year and the fan base for even longer, especially because swifties refuse to allow anybody to criticize their fav or try to hold her accountable for any ounce of wrongdoing she's capable of. any time someone does not like her, they are automatically labeled a misogynist EVEN if the criticism is constructive. with everything i'm learning about the wedding that happens to keep popping up on my tl (like her inviting an ICE detention center contractor + KNOWN abusers and zionists??) among other things, i'm being reminded of how comically evil she has become since achieving billionaire status when it comes to everything she stands (and doesn't stand) for and the people she surrounds herself with. which makes me wonder if her “activism" during 2019/2020 was even genuine or was just the thing that seemed righteous and popular at the time. listen, i still like a lot of her songs! and i was thinking to myself, this woman made 1989 :( and then remembered that's like kanye fans saying he made graduation LMAOO, ANYWHO. please let this woman fade into obscurity. it is clear she does not care about anyone but herself and she no longer cares about the artistry of the music she creates anymore, just the business, which reveals to me that her entire career has just been manufactured around what can get her the most attention/money at any given time while also begging for privacy and to not being pressured to speak out politically, which is utterly laughable.
They say what’s good can never last,
and I have spent my whole life
feeling like a nomad.
Not because I packed boxes or crossed borders
growing up, we stayed within the same five mile radius,
walking the exact same school hallways.
No, I am a nomad of people.
It started at six years old,
asking a girl in my class to be my friend
only to watch her turn her back.
In middle school, I tethered myself to older kids,
my sister’s friends in extracurriculars,
but seasons end and seniors graduate,
leaving me stranded on the sidelines.
By high school, I was just a temporary fixture,
a brief tenant in various friend groups
before drifting away after a handful of months.
Now, adulthood follows the same short lease.
I have one or two close friends at a time.
We burn too hot, too fast,
and fizzle out near the six month mark.
We simply run out of things to say,
and occasional life updates feel too thin to bridge the gap.
Or we stumble upon some fatal incompatibility,
and the fire goes out.
Even now, sitting with the same sister’s adult friends,
I am an outsider looking in.
I feel like I am only there
because I happen to occupy this specific space and time.
I keep trying.
And trying and trying and trying.
I reach out, looking for a place to land,
but it seems everyone’s capacity is drained.
People barely bother to maintain correspondence,
let alone build something real.
It feels like everyone is in on a joke
That I am not apart of
But I am tired of aimlessly wandering
and I don’t want to hitchhike anymore.
So, I keep hoping
and hoping and hoping and hoping
that one day I can settle down.
“what if kids identify with something and it ends up just being a phase-?” good. stop teaching and expecting kids (and adults honestly) to formulate permanent traits and ideas of themselves. everything in life is a phase. that doesn’t make it any less legitimate while you experience it. let people explore themselves and know it’s okay if what you think about yourself changes.
