hi. i don’t want to call you out specifically, but this is exactly what i was referring to in my first post. he’s not jewish “even though” anything. he’s not “raising his kid jewish;” his kid is jewish. why do people need these qualifiers? in true and very deep honesty, what the hell?

My point is that a Jewish upbringing is not purely religious, but cultural. People always point to Jewish atheists and say “well they’re atheist, ergo no religion” its important to point out that being Jewish isn’t just a religious thing. Just pointing out that someone is ethnically Jewish and therefore always Jewish isn’t quite right. Choosing to participate in culture and ensuring your children participate is important. When people try to distance Jack Black or Carrie Fischer or anyone from Judaism, they will point to parental conversion or atheism or whatever they can find to say someone isn’t Jewish enough or that they’ve in some way separated themselves from it. Active participation in culture, however, is undeniable. I gave no qualifiers, I pointed to arguments used and refuted them.
