Forgot to post this yesterday, but barbering has taught me to have thicker skin! Sometimes I get nervous around all the talented barbers, but I humble myself knowing they all started somewhere too. Being a female barber is always tough. It feels like we have to constantly prove ourself. When I first graduated and was looking for work barbershops would turn me down. I am absolutely proud of myself. It’s been 301 days since I last had a drink! Yesterday I was not feeling too well, I ended up throwing up on the side of the road 🥺💔 I don’t know about y’all, but throwing up is painful!!! I honestly hate throwing up!! I remember very well when I was drinking and hung over throwing up was scary! I’ve heard of people dying because of vomiting! I know this may sound silly, but when I was hung over puking my guts up in the toilet I would pray to God to help me! I would cry and say I will not do this any more! I would ask God to make it stop and I promise I would too! Do you know what I did again? Drink! I don’t know how many times I was in the work bathroom puking my guts up! Or in my own bathroom yakking away! Yesterday as I pulled off the road and was on my knees it instantly brought me back to my dark days 😢 I have not puked since March 1! I want everyone to use me as an example and hear my story and know that I was that girl most of my life! I was sick I was so sick. I was lost. I was hurting deep down inside. I was running, I was hiding, I was afraid. Now at this very moment I am no longer afraid and I am proud to share my story. I love you guys! I love this life! Happy holidays and happy New Year! Today marks my 285th day of sobriety!! My one year mark is 4months away! Being sober this time around means so much more to me because I am actually ready for it. When you decide to make the change and are not fully ready to give into the process than change will not happen. I’ve learned the hard way, and lost one of the best things in my life.
