Dr Petra Grey-Summers

I'm Dr Petra Grey-Summers, but you can just call me Petra. I just moved into The Avengers Tower as the official Mutant Therapist, offering my services to our future heroes and current team because I believe even heroes need help sometimes.

I do have a mutation of my own, nothing special but Professor X calls it Chronokinesis, I can pause, rewind and fast forward through time which helps when clients want total privacy in their sessions.

Ask me anything! I will be here posting excerpts from my diary, my thoughts and feelings, answering questions about the Mutant Academy as I was schooled there and anything else you all need! The excerpts will be edited to protect my clients identities of course, Doctor Patient confidentiality but yeah! Happy to be here.

A few things: I do like Taylor Swift (calm down @purpleprincessonfyre) but I also like Dolly Parton, Queen, Florence and The Machine and MARINA.

I am NOT a superhero. I do not handle weapons or fight crime. I sit at my desk and listen to your problems. Only thing I fight is depression, anxiety and inner demons. I don't Don any capes or catsuits unless it's Halloween night.

Yes my folks are Jean Grey and Scott Summers and yes that was tricky but I was mostly raised by my grandparents while they were still X-Men, on their farm in Tennessee so I'm a little country.

I love hot teas and a good cosy night in watching cheesy rom coms with a bucket of buttered popcorn on my lap.

Yes my hair is naturally red, you can thank my Mom for that and yes I do get freckles in the summer.

And finally, I kind of want a pet but I doubt they'd allow that at the Tower? Maybe a teacup poodle would be okay? I love dogs.

It's getting easier for folk to just walk in my door when they got troubles or questions they don't think Google or JARVIS can answer concisely. For instance, just today Red Robin of all people came knocking on my door. Someone who's always busy fixing everyone else's problems. Shocking right?

It started real simple, she just asked, "How am I supposed to feel when it all gets on top of me?" And I took a second, cause it takes all kinds, truly. Then I simply said, "Well how do you feel right now? Go on, and don't go filtering your response to be all squeaky clean and professional-like, just be honest with me." I said and it all came pouring out like a burst pipe. It's amazing how folk open up when you turn off all the filters and let them take off whatever masks they choose to be wearing.

And she was clearly in need of that chat. She shoulders a lot, carrying everyone's problems, handling requests like a champ, trying to balance work and personal life like she's on a damn tightrope. Once she'd said her piece and got it all out I just said, "Alright now how hard was that? You got it all out of your system, so what we gonna do about it?" I say and she kinda just stared as if she'd never actually considered that part. I did nearly laugh at that. There's steps I follow when something oughta be changing but it ain't.

Step 1: Get everything thats bothering you out of your system, write it, scream it, say it, whatever you need.

Step 2: Realize there's something that can be done about all this hassle.

Step 3: Figure out a way to make sure this ain't happening again.

People always forget that venting and emoting can be helpful, but what's even better is finding a solution. We started writing down each issue individually and I made suggestions about how to lighten the load by; asking for someone to split work with, approaching someone higher about how this is making her feel, saying Yes to less things, etc. And the way I saw her shoulders starting to relax, her heart not going a mile a minute, that frantic look in her eye fading and a very soft smile shining through really reminded why I love what I do.

I even got a tearful hug but that ain't the whole point. The whole point is being able to look at something, see it ain't working and work on how to fix it in a healthy way. And I get it, when you love what you do you can get blinded by it and just assume your problems ain't worth their weight in water. But it's so worth once you tell someone how you're feeling. That's all for now.

I'm back! No I didn't go nowhere but I did forget about this thing over here so here's a Diary Entry I hope y'all like, names been changed to nicknames cause Doctor patient confidentiality and all that...enjoy!

Finally got someone into a therapy session! Well I didn't exactly get them to walk into my office and ask for my help...and I didn't tell them it was therapy...until afterwards but a happy client is a happy client. Amirite? Let me explain.

I saw Moss Penny had taken up his usual spot on the couch reading the paper and he seemed pretty content sat there and the Tower was fairly quiet thanks to a few small missions and training activities going on elsewhere. I started real subtle, asking how he was in a very general conversational tone, no notepad in hand, no doctor's coat or glasses, just two co-workers chatting. I think he thought I was flirting at one point but is there really any normal way to find out if someone's in a relationship and it not have underlying tones?

Anyway I started to push it a little further offering to make us both drinks and let him talk, slowly delving into his past little by little with nonchalant questions and comments. I call this technique Not Technically Therapy? I perfected it when I realised very quickly that some people close up faster than a small business on Thanksgiving when you even hint at the term so I could try and help people without them even realising! I tell them afterwards of course and sometimes they get a little hostile but not always.

So I continued, asking him if he'd really taken any time to think over all this stuff that had happened over the years and if he'd processed any of the after effects of these incidents and turns out, no. He really hadn't sat down to take it all in. I got him to open up slowly, keeping questions kind of open so they weren't definitive answers and it got easier over time.

He started being more candid about his real feelings, regrets, mistakes he feels he made, wishes and such. Such a young face but those eyes have lived a thousand lives over the years. I asked if these events rippled out into bad habits and such and he admitted they affected him in ways that led him to paths of addiction and bottling up his feelings, creating loneliness.

Wounds that are self inflicted are often the hardest to heal. Especially if you convince yourself they ain't worth healing. We tried an experiment where I asked him to pretend I was someone from his past he wished he'd stayed in touch with. It was quite beautiful watching him get more into the part and really pour out his feelings to me despite knowing the reality.

Eventually he realised bottling up these feelings ain't doing any good for nobody and he should open up more, let people in instead of seeing the world as cruel and uninviting. It's one thing to be cautious but another to be fearful. And he really seemed to get it.

And when I told him that was all basically just therapy he actually smiled and laughed, wondering why he'd been so stubborn before! It's nice to know you've gotten through to someone. And I told him that too, saying it can take days, weeks or months to get through to some people who are deep in denial and self-hatred.

So I guess I have a client now! A client happy to meet me in my office and just talk. It feels real good, I'll tell you. That's all for now.

Mia hi! Yeah I fell out of the habit of posting I guess, got real busy with the therapy I suppose, good to hear from you!

I've seen some wild things over the years. Being mutant and attending a school for mutants does that for you. You see shapeshifters, telekinesis, people who can turn into beasts, people who can kill with one touch, people with claws in their skin, but nothing could have prepared me for what I saw today.

The day started very normal, kids watching TV, eating breakfast, chatting when one of the kids, we'll call her Pink Roses, decides to prank her...boyfriend? They're a couple I think. Or really good friends. I need to do more research. Anyway she decides it's a good idea to prank him or rather his slime friend on his shoulder helps her prank him and suddenly he's turned into those blue cat things from that movie Avatar. It was uncanny! One of the kids, let's call her Purple Shell, screamed like a banshee alerting all of us to what had happened and I could not believe my eyes. This kid had just transformed into a big blue cat!

And according to what I've been told, that's not normal! This kid, we'll call him Blueberry? Seems fitting. Blueberry, has multiple kinds of mutation or mutates in his body. Like someone or something just shoved several different X Genes into his DNA and waited to see what happened. From what I've heard he hosts a symbiote, has lycanthropic tendencies and the same gamma radiation impulses as a certain green fella we all know. Three different abilities!

They teach you in school that finding solutions to unknown problems is like throwing spaghetti at a wall. Some of it might slide off and land in a mess on the ground but if it's got enough sauce on it and it's fresh enough, it might stick to the wall until you can clean it up. This feels like someone just catapulted spaghetti at a wall despite the mess, hurling it over and over again. It's fascinating.

Despite all my training and experience with mutants, you can still learn something new every day. The kid's fine by the way, he stayed a cat the rest of the day. It was kind of cute and his Dad reassured him he would be okay. At least I think that's his Dad? Or just a really kind Uncle? Again, I need to get some files on my desk so I can figure out who's who properly in this place. Maybe I'll have to request them. But the kid is okay. That's all for now.
