Virgilia Castagnet was already used to a lavish lifestyle; but she definitively entered the enviable circles of aristocracy when she married Lucius Castagnet, from a noble house of the country of Alaviere. It was something out of a dream — two bright young people meeting on the dance floor at a ball, a match of equal wits, both smooth and charismatic in their flirting, a spark lit on her chest. A union to secure her a title and years of revelry and excitement.

That is, until the marriage turned terribly dull — Lucius spent more time sucking up to the other houses in his political ambition, and Virgilia... To put it plainly, she got bored. At 20 she was married, and at 24 she got bored, and at 28 she started going crazy. And at 30 she found the answer: if wedlock didn't bring her excitement anymore, she would seek outside of it. A torrent of affairs right out of a scandalous romance seemed to be the perfect solution to her problem; and it worked for five years, until it didn't.

Lucius wasn't known to be bloodthirsty or vengeful or violent, but the way he looked at her and tensed up his body as he found out was enough to shake her. Lucius doesn't necessarily want her dead, but that night, she swears he could have killed her. Virgilia thought it best to run away, even if it meant leaving her life as she knew it behind.

But of course one can't really stay away from trouble, as an ancient rune awakes and she finds herself right in the eye of the hurricane. Chosen by this incomprehensible power — along with five other total strangers — and tasked with finding the other runes across the continent of Vestigia, Virgilia now has to face much more danger than she ever thought she would. And perhaps face some demons way sooner than she expected to.
