Jenny turning up to a practise to prep them. "This one's important, Ladies, you need to dress to impress. That means..." she turns to Kitty and points a finger "No leopard-skin." Another finger. "No leather jackets or pants. Or pleather or vinyl." Another finger. "No jeans, or denim of any kind." Last finger. "Nothing with metals studs, chains etc."
The older four are sympathetic to varying degrees but think Kitty just needs to roll with it.
"It's just for this one interview," says Beth.
"Jenny knows how these things work," says Jess.
"I'm sure one of us can lend you something," says Holly.
"It won't hurt you to dress up for once." from Yvonne.
The younger three are less impressed by the dictum, as they tidy away the instruments after the others have headed into the pub they give their opinions.
"You should be able to dress how you want to," says Nisha.
"Yeah, and I really like how you dress," says Kam, "this doesn't seem right at all."
"I think this calls for malicious compliance." Miranda looks Kitty up and down. "How would you feel about wearing one of my dad's suits?" She starts rummaging through a crate on one of the shelves, and pulls out a brown and orange suit with a decidedly seventies vibe. "I think he wore this to some themed wedding twenty years ago. You know Mum, she never throws anything out."
Kitty tries it on, then pops it in the car with the keyboard.
Comes downstairs on the day wearing it and Beth's face...
