That being said, I do believe that there are infinite numbers of people that you can and will fall in love with in a life time. Sometimes that love will burn hot and die quickly, sometimes you will barely grasp it before it’s yanked from your reach, and other times you’ll find it right in front of your face and wondering how you missed it. Some of that love is meant to be temporary, some of that love will return to you, and sometimes you realize what you have the moment you have it and you never have to let it go (that’s less common IMO, all the good healthy relationships I know in my life include a moment of the two individuals needing time to grow independently, this is especially true for relationships that started between teenagers.)

I like to believe that if Naruto and Sasuke were a real life love story, it would have been something like, young love that is let go and then found again later in life (Sasuke does have to leave the village in order to grow up, it’s canon 😉).

I may be a little bias, because that is my love story. The person I am with now in my 30s is the same person I was with as an 18 year old. We didn’t talk for nearly 15 years, but when we reconnected, it was like I was experiencing the love that I had yanked away from me over a decade ago. But it was different. Refined like a good quality wine, left in a barrel to be rediscovered and savored.

I don’t believe in soulmates, but I do believe in finding someone that compliments you in a way that is unique entirely to that relationship. I’m grateful for the love I experience between the time me and my partner had apart, but I think it’s what makes this love so much richer. I knew them as a child and now I know them as an adult, and while we didn’t grow together we still managed to grow in the same direction.

We sometimes have misunderstandings and we sometimes hurt each others feelings, but there is a core of mutual respect and desire to care for one another and that’s more valuable than a lot of people are willing to give credit to. When you find your person, they will inspire you to be the best version of yourself. That includes recognizing that mistakes happen and choosing to love that person even when you two are arguing with each other. (This is not an endorsement to tolerate bad behavior, a healthy relationship is built upon healthy communication, respect, and beliefs. As someone really smart once asked me, how can someone love you if they don’t believe you deserve basic human rights?)
