Touya was always conventionally alone just so AFO could get him and say he was keeping tabs on the Todoroki family but in reality it was just Touya he kept his eyes on.
Well, the problem is he said he was keeping tabs ON ENJI.
AF CAN REALLY CRY??
This is something I had wanted to talk about a long time ago.
First of all, deceive who? And why? I think AFO isnβt a 100% reliable narrator. I think heβs trying to give a very βreasonableβ explanation for his tears instead of admitting that he has emotions. I mean, βconfuseβ? Confuse who? Kudou? Why the hell would you want to confuse Kudou? The guy is literally on the verge of death already, and besidesβ¦
Kudou doesnβt even look that confused. The son of a bitch is literally smiling. Like "yeah, your brother call me daddy when we where-" Why would you want to confuse Kudou when the guy clearly doesnβt give a damn? More importantly, why would you want to confuse an opponent you already defeated and who is about to die anyway? Whatβs even the point of that?
The other option is that he was trying to confuse Yoichi. Which brings me back to the same question: why would you want to confuse your brother? Manipulate him? I donβt get it. In the Japanese text it also says he wanted to confuse him, but it doesnβt say manipulate, soβ¦ why? Did you want your brother to overthink whether he made the wrong decision? Were you trying to make him feel guilty? I swear thatβs not what it looks like. The word βconfuseβ here is just like: ?????
Besides, I donβt think those tears were fake. Just look at his eyes.
He genuinely looks furious XD
Look at the expression he has in his own memory.
Well, it's a reflection of how he felt inside, isn't it? That's why he looks so different on this panel than it did on the outside, which is equivalent to a bull ready to go through your stomach.
In my opinion, AFO is trying to convince himself that he doesnβt cry because crying is for βthe weak,β and the great demon lord would never cry unless it served some evil purpose, right?
Yoichiβs death genuinely affected him, and he clearly had very negative emotions toward Kudou, basically blaming him for everything. I think he felt rage at having the βthiefβ standing right in front of him, while realizing that even if he killed him, Yoichi had already been βstolenβ by someone else once again. I think those were tears of frustration and anger more than anything. AFO was around 25-30 years old back then, and at that point in his life, nothing had ever slipped out of his control. Itβs like telling a baby βnoβ for the first time and watching it fail to process the concept. Except this baby can level cities because humanity collectively decided quirks were a good evolutionary step. Spectacular species.
But he does have emotions. Heβs admitted it multiple times. For example:
So, in my opinion, backed up by the manga, those tears were real. All For One is capable of feeling emotions, and this man is completely incapable of accepting that he can cry, so he came up with a nonsensical excuse instead. But if you have a different opinion, feel free to share it or correct me if Iβm wrong. (q´βο½)οΎ

The narrative decay of Shigarakiβs quirk
Title is both a bad pun and the way I feel about how the series had progressed in regards to the way Shigarakiβs Decay quirk was handled.
Iβm in the rather small minority of fans that actually really disliked the now-canon theory of AFO being the one to give Shigaraki his decay quirk.
My issue boils down to three main dilemmas that are central to a good story. Character development, narrative development, and character agency.
For me, one of the best aspects about Shigaraki was his character development and the way he progressed throughout the series (up until the war arcs). I think itβs reasonable to say that the core of what MHA presented itself as, in the beginning, was the growth of our two main characters. The hero, Izuku, and the villain, Tomura.
Unlike Izuku, Tomura really got only a couple of chapters to shine until the MVA arc. But the way you could see his character development through the few chapters he did have made all of his appearances so good. Thatβs why I personally love the MVA arc.
Not only do we get into the core of who Tomura is as a person, but we get to see that he isnβt just some emotionless, manipulative villain who treats the league as pawns. He promises not to destroy the things Toga loves, he helps rescue Giran because Giran is important to Twice, and he even remembers Compressβs wish to have sushi. Why? Because he cares about them!
Season/volume one Shigaraki would not have done any of those things. But season five Shigaraki did. Thatβs whats so important to me. And itβs not like it came out of nowhere. Even during the summer camp arc, he expressed the sentiment that the league members are valuable players and how he hopes they succeed. Itβs a natural progression of his character, and a show of how close the league has become.
Another core part of MVA for Tomura was him remembering his past and overcoming it, especially in regards to his quirk. No longer was he the same scared kid who was afraid of his own power. Instead, he was now a leader in his own right, with the same destructive power that killed his family being used to actively help out and make a place for the people he now cared about, the league.
In many ways, Shigaraki made decay his own quirk, something that no one could take away from him.
And the implications of Shigaraki, the grandson of a hero, becoming a villain with his mutated destructive power, were great. It directly tied into one of the newer plot points introduced, which was the Quirk Singularity theory.
While weβre introduced to the concept through Eri, Ujiko and the kids Todoroki and Bakugou face during their hero licensing lessons really hammer down the complications of such a thing happening.
Quirks are getting stronger, stranger, and becoming uncontrollable. Parents canβt handle their dangerous kids anymore. How does society deal with that? What do you do in the face of such a phenomenon?
And in my opinion, if this had really been the case with to Tenko/Tomura, then I think it wouldβve been a lot more impactful than AFO just messing around. The reason being that something like this just canβt be stopped or controlled.
Which is also what the story of MHA had been building up to. Tomuraβs character had been established as the antithesis to hero society. Nobody helped him! People saw a child covered in blood and refused to offer further help because he looked scary and dangerous.
The grandson of the hero who mentored All Might becoming this insanely dangerous villain, all because civil society ignored him, and because the only person who bothered to reach out to him was also a villain, could have been such an incredible critique on society, and how only the βgood onesβ are saved.
Except thatβs not what happens. Which brings me to my points of narrative development and character agency. The main problems? AFO and Horikoshiβs writing itself.
Just why is AFO involved in so many characters? Seriously, why?
The second I saw Dabiβs chapter, when he wakes up from his coma, I had to take a break and just pause. Because at that point, it had been established that AFO only cared about OFA and his brother. There was literally no reason to go after Touya.
I found the whole βorphanages/seedbeds of hatred to be potential replacements for Shigarakiβ to be such a copout. If there really was a concern that something might happen to Tomura, then AFO would have acted concerned!
Instead AFO just sat there, without speaking until feeling the need to speak, when Shigaraki came back from the USJ with several gunshot wounds. Or when Stain straight up had Shigaraki stabbed and pinned to the ground. Even Kurogiri was more concerned than AFO.
Not only is Touyaβs story cheapened, it cheapens AFOβs character too. This post is mainly about Tomura, but something that would have made Touyaβs story a lot more impactful (for me at least) was if Endeavor had found his body at Sekoto Peak and then kept it a secret from the rest of the family.
Not for anything malicious or whatever, but because of the possibility that Touya would potentially die while in his coma. Him surviving could be explained away by quirk science/medical advancements. Touya, being kept away in a facility for his βown goodβ with Endeavor not visiting much like how he did not visit Rei, could have been such a great parallel to his mom.
Touya, who upon learning this, escapes from wherever he is kept and then returning home only to see that nothing has changed and then never looking back. Endeavor, being the only one to have known this and keeping it hidden because of not wanting to ruin his reputation/live with the guilt.
Not only would this have shown the darker side of heroics (which is what Endeavor as a character was meant to represent in the first place) but it also would have been incredibly damning if it had reached the public. That would have been such a better handling of Touyaβs story, to me at least, but nope. Touya is actually just a pawn in AFOβs master plan.
Even the orphanages AFO/Ujiko kept funded were so bizarre. Replacements for Tomura? Seriously?
They could have very easily been explained as future bodies for nomu or kids Ujiko experimented on for quirk science, but no, thatβs not what happened.
Like the Quirk Singularity theory, this plot point is left as a rather looming background decoration that just ends up being ignored. What happened to those kids? What about the Quirk Singularity? No discussion of those things ever again.
The agency and drive of every character is stripped away to present AFO as a mastermind. Which would be fine, if this was meant to be AFOβs story. But this isnβt meant to be AFOβs story. Itβs meant to be Shigarakiβs villain story.
Which is me segueing into another topic, which is how Horikoshi has this thing about trying to downplay his abusive male figures, especially when it comes to Endeavor and Shigarakiβs father, which honestly pisses me off.
Unironically writing that AFO convinced Kotaro to be more abusive, as if that somehow makes Shigarakiβs family life less worse, is insane to me. A grown adult should know better than to drag his kids around, scream at them, keep them locked outside while denying them food, and most of all, hitting them so hard they are knocked to the ground from the sheer force behind those hits. Those were choices that Kotaro actively chose to make.
And donβt forget the scene where five year old Tenko had to ask his mother why his father hated him. Thatβs actually all AFOβs fault.
Again, why I dislike AFO being the one to give Shigaraki his decay quirk. Any and all agency Shigaraki had in his life was near retconned in the end. The critiques his character was meant to represent, the forces that made him the way he is, the dangers of a society that focuses on heroic figures instead of help and changeβall gone, because Horikoshi just had to make AFO the ultimate villain.
Even the origin of Shigarakiβs decay quirk was just strange to me. A modified form of Overhaul? Really? AFO had to have a hand in Overhaulβs backstory too?
The problem here lies in the fact that the more Horikoshi tries to expand his worlding building, the smaller and more suffocating his world feels. Everything is connected. All the charcters know each other. No one exists in their own sense of self.
There are many ways to show a character struggling with a lack of agency. This is not one of the ways to do it. Especially not the character who was meant to parallel your MC.
I think what I dislike most about Shigaraki having been given decay is that the had another Quirk that was taken from him. It would have been so easy to have Shigaraki been originally Quirkless.
The parallel with Izuku is right there! Two quirkless boys who wanted to become heroes, with strong powers being given to them, and ultimately becoming heroes in their own way. This could have been such an easy and great similarity to showcase.
Instead, we have Tomura/Tenko being born with a quirk that lets him fly. And not even an established quirk like Air Walk! A quirk given to a hero who became disillusioned with the system, who under AFOβs orders tried to kill Izuku, and in the end had her heart/conscience reach out to by him. Instead, we have a new and unnamed quirk with a narrative importance of zero.
Wow, he had a quirk just like his hero grandma. While AFO took away Shigarakiβs agency in the worst way possible, so did the main storyline itself. What tipped me off to this was the animators portraying pre-decay massacre Tenko with gray eyes.
Likeβ¦why? It doesnβt even make sense. Why would Tenkoβs eye color have changed when he activated his decay quirk? I can understand his hair changing color due to shock/stress/Marie Antoinette syndrome. But his eyes?
It was obviously done to make Tenko look as similar to Nana Shimura as possible (who doesnβt even care about him in any way and also advocated for killing him, because that became a plot point). His hair, his eyes, even his original quirk.
For some reason, the narrative just canβt let Shigaraki be his own person. As if there is some divide between good and kind and heroic Tenko, and evil Tomura who took over Tenkoβs body.
It almost makes me uncomfortable in the sense that this seems to emphasize that yes, your lineage does matter into who you are as a person/who you could have become. Because this is obviously untrue. A character like Tomura just simply cannot be his own person, either by the narrative or by the actions of another.
If I had my way, then Decay would have been Shigarakiβs original quirk, with no interference from AFO whatsoever.
The family massacre would happened, and Tenko would have been walking on the streets, hoping to be saved. AFO would have taken notice (as nice civilian homes donβt just get destroyed), done his research due to the family name (as Shimura is an uncommon surname) and then tracked Tenko down upon realizing he was related to Nana Shimura.
Is AFO still evil and scummy? Yes. Does Shigaraki actually get some agency in what should be his own story? Also yes.
Itβs just seriously disappointing to me, that such obvious themes and parallels were being built up in this story, only to just end up being ignored. And itβs a shame, because itβs not like you can really do anything about it either way.
After writing that analysis in the reblog of your post, some things came to mind, things I had glimpses of before and that I hadnβt yet fully realized. And I was curious to ask you some questions I had asked myself as well.
Do you think Yoichi ever truly understood his brotherβs motivations for why Zen had decided to live as the Demon King?
Did Yoichi understand why his brother wanted OFA so badly?
Unless I am accidentally forgetting some important detail, I have the impression that Yoichi had an accurate idea of his brother only up to a certain point.
When he was little, he understood that what his brother did was wrong, but he thought that deep down his brother was good, hoping to be able to make him a kind person again, even though in reality Zen had never been kind to anyone else except Yoichi and wasnβt always kind even to him.
Growing up, between the killing of the luminous baby, the decision to become the Demon King, exploiting the situation of chaos, or quirks and people as he pleased, locking him in the vault, and finally giving him a quirk against his will (this can be seen as committing a violence on Yoichi, while from Zenβs point of view it was a gift he was giving him, not understanding why Yoichi didnβt want to accept it and why it was wrong), all these things had made Yoichi understand that his brother was evil and that he had been wrong about his kindness, or that he had now gone too far to be redeemed, showing no sign of being interested in doing so.
That is the moment when he realized that he would never be able to put his brother on the right path and that Zen would never use his great power to do good so he has to be stopped.
But realizing that Zen was evil or irredeemable does not mean that Yoichi had understood why Zen wanted so much to be evil and become the Demon King.
From Zenβs words, the most Yoichi knew was that his brother wanted a world that lived only for his sake.
But he is not told why Zen wanted this.
So I have the impression that Yoichi never fully understood his brother, he was very focused on the idea of justice and probably, from the disillusionment towards his brother, did not see the motivations behind all his brotherβs actions.
And this leads me to think that it was precisely for this reason that for Yoichi it was impossible to reach his brotherβs consciousness enough to make him reason and push him to change.
Yoichi knew his brother but he had never really truly seen through him.
Considering the social context in which they grew up and the AFO quirk, Zen did not have many chances of becoming a good person, but maybe if Yoichi had managed to reach him, he would have become better.
But Yoichi could not understand his brotherβs motivations and therefore could not reach him.
Do you think that if Yoichi had been able to understand why Zen wanted to be the Demon King and what this desire was born from, he might have been able to make Zen listen to him and save him?
I am not blaming Yoichi, it was not easy to understand Zen, since Zen was the first to be little aware of himself, and Yoichi tried for a long time to save him despite Zen being a difficult person.
But I think the problem was that he was missing the last piece to make sense of everything, and that was what made it practically impossible to even have a small chance of convincing Zen to become better.
In the same way, I think Yoichi did not understand why Zen wanted OFA so badly, he probably thought that Zen wanted to seize the power of OFA or wanted to eliminate the quirk born to oppose him, but I donβt think he ever realized that in reality Zen only wanted to have his brother back to be with him.
If Yoichi had understood this, would something have changed? Maybe a tiny spark of hope toward his brother would have reignited in him?
It is really sad that, as much as they knew each other well, neither of them ever really understood the deep motivations of the other. They spent many years together, but this inability to understand each other on an even deeper level divided them forever.
Going to break this apart to make it easier to follow along:
Do you think Yoichi ever truly understood his brotherβs motivations for why Zen had decided to live as the Demon King?
That's a really good question! There's nothing that indicates he does, but then again, we hardly get any of Yoichi's perspective regarding his brother. Even in the 193 flashback that's taken from Yoichi's memories majority of it is centered on AFO and we hardly ever get to see who Yoichi was like outside of him and his full thoughts on him.
As you said we see Yoichi is able to recognize AFO's actions as being wrong and had believed in his brother could become a better person. But we never see Yoichi grapple with why Zen is like this. Did Yoichi assume something was wrong with Zen from the moment he was born and thats why he acted as he did? Did he ever consider that growing up in the environment they did was what made Zen want to become a villain in the first place? We never see Yoichi bring up Zen's desperate need for attention which is the primary reason why he went down the path of villainy in the first place. He only talks about AFO needing to take everything for himself.

Yo, listenβ¦and this is going to be long windedβ
It was a bit more understandable when people continued the narrative that AFO only cared about Yoichi as a possession; perpetuated that AFO had no love or care for him in anyway when all we had was the manga to go off of. Throw in the poorly translated AFO pages from the final fanbook and, yeah, I get it.
BUT thereβs very little excuse to continue that line of thinking after the anime. Seriously.
The anime decided to add multiple animations that were never in the manga concerning AFO and Yoichi.
(You might need to click the gifs in order for them to animate. I had to compress the shit out of them to get them to uploadβ¦)
The anime showing AFO wanting to hold Yoichi within his Quirk and saying, with a lot more emotion than expected, βYoichi, I have to have you back with meβ(this was originally only him thinking to himself over panels from his baby perspective before he was revealed to be a baby in the manga)
AFO reaching towards him while Yoichi turns away and disappears(very similar to when AFO blew him up) and then showing a hole close to where his heart is when he talks about feeling his twin shattering(again, this was originally just him talking in the manga),
Probably the most important, the scenes shown when Izuku calls him out for his humanityβAFO asking Yoichi to come with him, that he is important, and then him and Yoichi reading the comics all set to emotional music.
AFO running to Yoichiβs fragment
AFOβs VAβs voice cracking as he states how he feels about him.
Again, the fucking HERO of the story announces itβhe isnβt a monster beyond understanding, heβs no demon lord, heβs just a lonely man and that loneliness is immediately equated to Yoichi.
I often see people using Horikoshiβs strange choice of saying AFO never developed emotions due to the god-mode of his Quirk as the reasoning for him having no love for Yoichi, but thatβs honestly just a paranormal version of Alexithymia. People often conflate emotions and feelings as the same thing when they arenβt. Love is a feeling and those with Alexithymia show love differently than people who understand their emotions better. Not having emotions does not negate someone feeling love for another. These people show their love through actions and this is why the idea that AFO held no care/kindness for Yoichi is so strange becauseβ¦he straight up made sure Yoichi had clothes before he did; instead of leaving his twin to die so he could better survive, he dragged him around since infancy(cause magic giant baby), he kept him alive when all survival instincts should have caused him to, well, not. Even when Yoichi was obviously trying to disrupt his evil plans by screaming at those allowing his brother to take and give Quirks to them, when he probably tried to leave(resulting in the βvaultβ): AFO didnβt kill him and still demanded he join him in his dream. Even his intense control over everything his twin did was a symptom of a fear of being alone, of Yoichi leaving him. Is his version still super duper unhealthy and terrifying? Yes, but Iβll go over that shortly.
A person is not lonely because they miss their teddy bear from 100+ years ago. Loneliness is βa distressing emotional state characterized by a perceived or actual lack of connection with othersβ. It has to do with other people. AFO had a ton of loyal followers, Dr Garaki, Machia, Tomura, etc and so on(I feel that the anime showing how bored AFO looks sitting on his throne with all his followers was done on purpose to get this point across), yet his loneliness was tied to his twin. So much so that he spent well over a century doing literally anything to get him back; viewing Yoichiβs Quirk factor as his brother. But this loneliness was the one thing he wanted to hide from everyone. Outside of talking to himself, he presented it as wanting One for All, but we all know that wasnβt the caseβit was Yoichi. He suffers from extreme twin unit identity, his idea of self twisted to include Yoichi as his extension. Of COURSE he was obsessed and of course he was possessiveβthatβs so ingrained into him not just from the nature of his Quirk, but also a symptom of a childhood lacking anyone elseβ¦besides Yoichi. Why do you think the only time he says he doesnβt want someone to look at him is when that person finally breaks through the demon lord facade and sees him as the traumatized child that always kept the only thing that was with him since the womb by his side?
If the heroβs words canβt convince you then I donβt know what the hell will.
Oh, and this season had Horikoshi way more involved, so I assume that these new animations were checked off by him because I think AFOβs end was fairly confusing for people forβ¦some reason.
AFO is a BAD GUY. Thereβs no denying that. He very much used everyone around him to get what he wanted and did some pretty fucked up stuff to have Yoichi. His idea of love is twistedβaffected by his Quirk, his childhood, his selfishness, his fear, etc and so on. When a fan of AFO talks about his love for Yoichi, we are very much aware that it is an incredibly unhealthy possessive love. I think people try to apply a healthy love when arguing that AFO didnβt have any for Yoichi, which is silly.
Telling someone they are his most precious possession is the only way AFO can understand love. His fear of not having Yoichi with him, fueled by his possessiveness, is why he forced a Quirk on Yoichi(which I think was the final straw for his brother too), is why Yoichi so desperately wanted to leave(besides not wanting to have anything to do with his brotherβs evil ideals), and is also why Yoichi died. That intense possessiveness fueled by a fear he probably didnβt even entirely understand resulted in him killing the only person he ever cared about. Anyone that sees AFOβs face right after Yoichi is torn apart and still thinks he βoh yeah totally meant to do that and was fine with itβ has to be crazy.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Disagree? I honestly donβt care at this point because itβs far too obvious now.

You know how younger siblings tend to want to copy everything the older sibling does? From wanting to eat the same foods to doing the same things. I think AFO is like that despite being the older sibling to Yoichi.
Whatever Yoichi eats he wants to eat too. If Yoichi wants to try something new he wants to try it as well. It's kind of canon considering AFO saw Yoichi reading a comic book and he immediately sat down and read with him despite never showing interest in them before.
What makes it hilarious is that Yoichi was hoping AFO would want to copy his desire to be a hero too but that's the one thing AFO will not copy him on
I meant to write this in my previous reblog, but I didn't have the chance to type it before.
I think this is fairly canonical considering what we know about their past.
Zen was the one who had to take care of both of them, a child who had to think about his own survival and that of his younger, sickly brother.
He had to think about finding food, clothes, safe places to hide Yoichi, maybe even medicine in case Yoichi got sick.
This takes a lot of time, especially for a child.
Zen doesn't have time to look for hobbies and interests; he's too busy trying to keep himself and Yoichi alive.
Yoichi is the one with the best chance of finding hobbies.
In the anime, they slightly changed the scene where Zen finds Yoichi while he's reading the comic.
In the anime, he's already there with him, watching him, but in the manga, he's just returned, probably from a search for something they need.
In my opinion, this emphasizes the fact that between the two of them, Yoichi had enough time to do things similar (as much as possible) to a normal child, like find pastimes, while Zen didn't have enough time to do so.
Furthermore, two other things can be gleaned from that scene from the context:
Yoichi and Zen are a little older while reading the comic than in the scene where Zen kicks Yoichi; Zen probably realized that it's safer to keep Yoichi hidden rather than carry him around.
This reconfirms the fact that between the two of them, Yoichi is the one with more "free time" to search for pastimes.
So the only way for Zen to share something with Yoichi when they're together is to do the things Yoichi likes.
Besides the fact that Zen was probably living in survival mode to the point of not fully perceiving his own needs and desires.
In fact, when Yoichi already had clothes and shoes, Zen initially wore only a piece of cloth and was barefoot. The moment he probably begins to give more importance to his desires is precisely when he realizes he wants to take inspiration from the demon king.
Before that, we're shown Zen's actions tied to the context of survival, to the fact that he doesn't want to be contradicted by his brother, and to taking other people's quirks, an irresistible desire for him due to his own quirk.
So I think that probably before reading the comic with Yoichi, he relied more on Yoichi's tastes.
Usually, an older sibling feels a sort of pride in sharing interests with their younger siblings.
It's a beautiful thing when they find something to share, and if their sibling has very different tastes or personality from their own, it's even more special.
And often the older sibling wants to be an example for the younger sibling, a role model, which in Zen's case could be a role model on whom Yoichi must depend completely, so as not to need anyone else besides Zen.
So I think that when Yoichi showed interest in something, Zen wanted to participate and be part of it, to have something to share with Yoichi.
Also, Zen probably wanted to be a role model for Yoichi in his own twisted way.
He wanted Yoichi to admire what Zen did and support his actions.
But Zen interpreted things his own way, like the Captain Hero comic, and for this reason he couldn't understand why Yoichi refused to follow his ideal.
The other thing we can glean from that scene comes from when Zen asks his brother what he's doing without asking his permission.
We already know that he sees Yoichi as his property, but this suggests that he wants to be involved in knowing what his brother does and doesn't do, and he wants to be the one to approve whether what Yoichi does is okay.
And we know that Zen canonically needs attention.
So probably being interested in what Yoichi was doing, it was also a way for him to feel in control of him and had his attention.
So I think it's canonical that AFO always wanted to do the same things as Yoichi, probably because it was a way for him to feel important to his brother, to share something, and he probably thought it was a way to gain Yoichi's respect and admiration, even though Yoichi didn't actually share Zen's perspective on things, and sharing these interests was also a way for Zen to feel in control of Yoichi.
Yoichi, on the other hand, from what is said in the manga, hoped his brother was behaving so violently because, given the type of life they had and in that social context, it was the only way to survive, and that in reality he was a kind person, since he cared about him, and so, from his perspective, he hoped to inspire Zen to become a good person again, not realizing that he had actually just introduced him to the work that will give Zen the motivation to push him to become an even worse person.
On a surface level, All for One covered Shigaraki in the hands of his supposed dead family to torment him and prevent him from healing. He couldnβt allow Shigaraki to heal because he needed a vessel full of hatred.
But this is also an admission. All for One kept Yoichiβs dead hand. The implication is that one of the reasons All for One kept Yoichiβs hand was to prevent himself from healing. He couldn't forgive himself for inadvertently causing Yoichi's death and prevented himself from forgetting by chasing Yoichi's ghost for more than a century and collecting more and more reminders of his darkest moment. He blamed Kudou to protect his own ego, but at some subconscious level he must have understood his culpability as he punished himself by keeping Yoichi's hand with him.
The fact he is so fine
